Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

I completely overlooked that post in the gameplay thread for me, thank you so much for pointing it out. I'll get cooking on a response now.

I am new to the Paizo forums, so I don't know anyone who could fill rolls of the top of my head. I'm open to your friends, Faelyn.

It may be helpful to try and recruit at least one more person, in my opinion.

Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

Howdy, everyone.
I apologize for my long absence from the discussion.
In addition to the outage, I also moved to a new state, so things have been very hectic.
If we're still doing this, I'm down to continue.

Maybe I should have been a bard.

I dunno, there's a certain flair to a half-dead hobbit giving a quietly noble, inspiring speech to the whole motley gang.

Also apologies for my absence.
I've been travelling a lot lately in preparation for a big move, and it has kept me pretty busy. But I'm back now, and excited to start posting!

The original presentation of the aarakocra was a parrot-like humanoid with wings bearing midpoint claws. This meant that they would fly using their wings/"arms" and thus would carry javelins in their feet.

The later 5e presentation of the aarakocra is an eagle-like humanoid with arms and wings (so six limbs: 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 wings = hexapedal).

Essentially, I find "Sam the Eagle, dude with wings" to be much more aesthetically boring than the parrot- or vulture-like humanoid form, especially since there are already plenty of character types that are "person, plus wings," such as avariel or certain aasimar.

Ahhh, gotcha. I did not know about their previous iterations, and yeah, I'd be inclined to agree that the style and reorganization of basic movement and actions that come with not having arms is a lot more interesting. That is a bit of a bummer.

For everyone, since Jesse and Attryn rolled so high I will allow the other two players to reroll their stats if you'd like! I hate to see such disparity in attributes.

You are just and merciful.

full-hexapedal

Betraying my ignorance here, but what does that mean?

Okay, so riddle me ree, party.

I'm looking over our current line-up, and we've got a lot of strong offense (barbarian, druid, sorcerer), and Jesse is easily pulling double duty as a tank/front line fighter with their paladin.
However, I'm not seeing a huge amount of buff support and enhancement potential (sorcs and druids are primarily damage classes most of the time, after all).

I'm curious if we're thinking I should switch off Blood Hunter. It's starting to look a little redundant given our fighting lineup, and I was thinking I might try to improve our offensive variety. I was giving the forge cleric an eyeball, for example, and thought it would complement our team nicely by giving us some extra combat edge and improving the variety of magics and knowledge available to us. The ability to give one of y'all a +1 weapon or +1 set of armor from first level sounds pretty great to me, and I'm not really sacrificing melee capability, as the forge cleric is still pretty front line.

Thoughts?

Jesse is the actual hero.

Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

That's probably wise, Jesse. From what I'm seeing, Blood Hunter is effectively a pure damage class. I'll be able to take some hits, but the majority of my talent pool will be burning HP to kill, maim, and kill some more.

Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

I can vibe with some sort of pantheon presence. I can see Merrin holding to some sort of force for peace and comfort.

Hey, there! An update: still figuring out the finer points of my character. I'm currently torn on keeping my rolls vs. taking point buy, so I'm still thinking that through.
As for an Order of Hunter, Faelyn, I was leaning toward the Ghostslayers.

Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

Hey, Jesse! Welcome.

For my part, Faelyn, I'm rolling up a Stout Halfling Blood Hunter. I'm undecided at the moment whether he's new to Mairena, or if he's lived here for a little while.

Hello and welcome, Eliza!
I definitely like the question you posed, regarding how current inhabitants of the world view this unbidden colonization. There's room for a lot of material there, and I think it could be fun if we go with Faelyn's idea of having the Goliaths and Tabaxi, two playable races, be native to the new world.

I'm also in favor of having a solid forward operating base up and running prior to game launch. That could be anything from a few rudimentary buildings shoved together with some form of defense present (a la Monster Hunter: World), to a fully realized colony complete with all the shops and services we would initially require. Either option still gives up plenty of room to adventure and explore to our heart's content.

I definitely like the idea of striking out for the unknown on display here. For my preference, though, I would like if we have the built up section already, as proposed by Faelyn, and we are reaching beyond that cradle to discover more of the world for the livelihood of our people, per DH's idea.

Also, in regard to races, I'm a fan of everything being on the table, but that can also be a LOT to account for. Maybe just the core races and the Aarakocra and Goliaths as playable races? That way the world doesn't go into cultural overload.

Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

If I were to cast my vote, I would say the first two options. An established continent with some deeper unexplored areas, or a half-settled continent with vast wilderness beyond sound like the most interesting for me. I have nothing against a fresh new world we're just discovering, I just think the first two at first glance seem more fun.

Also, question. Have you reached a final verdict regarding the Blood Hunter? I've been reading up on it, and I really like the Witcher-y feel it has.

Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

Also, concerning playable races, I don't really have an issue with any, either in the core set or in the expanded materials. If there's room for a given race in the lore of the world, then it's fine by me.

Male Dwarf Bard 6, Paladin 3

Hello! I am said friend that DH mentioned. First off, apologies if I make some rookie mistakes here and there, as I'm rusty on this style of gameplay (i.e. post and play). That said, I really like what I've read so far!

I really enjoy rewarding downtime in addition to rewarding combat. Locations to discover and explore in both wild and urban settings are things that I greatly enjoy. Older and established worlds with secrets to uncover, lore to learn, intrigue to get entangled in and tombs to plunder are all enjoyable facets of gameplay for me. Wilderness forays are also fine by me!
