Spirit (Su): A shaman forms a mystical bond with the spirits of the world. She forms a lasting bond with a single spirit Life, which grants a number of abilities and defines many of her other class features. At 1st level, a shaman gains the spirit ability granted by her chosen spirit. She adds the spells granted by that spirit to the list of spells that she can cast using spirit magic. She also adds the hexes possessed by that spirit to the list of hexes that she can use with the hex and wandering hex class features. At 8th level, the shaman gains the abilities listed in the greater version of her selected spirit. At 16th level, the shaman gains the abilities listed for the true version of her selected spirit. If the shaman takes levels in another class that grants a mystery (such as the oracle), the spirit and mystery must match, even if that means one of them must change. Subject to GM discretion, the shaman can change her former mystery or spirit to make them conform. Channel (Su): The shaman can channel positive energy like a cleric, using her shaman level as her effective cleric level when determining the amount of damage healed (or dealt to undead) and the DC. The shaman can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 1 + her Charisma modifier. Spirit Magic: A shaman can spontaneously cast a limited number of spells per day beyond those she prepared ahead of time. She has one spell slot per day of each shaman spell level she can cast, not including orisons. She can choose these spells from the list of spells granted by her spirits (see the spirit class feature and the wandering spirit class feature) at the time she casts them. She can enhance these spells using any metamagic feat that she knows, using up a higher-level spell slot as required by the feat and increasing the time to cast the spell. Mysteries of the Past: A speaker for the past gains Linguistics, Knowledge (history), Knowledge (local), Perception, and Use Magic Device as class skills. She also adds the spells from the Ancestor and Time Oracle mysteries to her class spell list (as the cleric level for those spells). This ability replaces the shaman’s familiar. The speaker for the past must choose a time when she must spend 1 hour each day in quiet contemplation to regain her daily allotment of spells, but does not need to commune with a familiar during this time. Because she has no familiar, she does not gain a spirit familiar feature from any spirit she bonds with. --------------------
Healer's Kit (50) Backstory:
Vivian Darr is a well known fixture in the harbor district. Most of the Darrs are sailors and merchants, but most residents of Yolubilis are familiar with Grandmother Aya and her apprentice, Vivian. For generations they have provided healing, wise words, and occasionally hot meals to those in need. Despite their obvious foreign heritage, Grandmother Aya and her family seem as much apart of Kintargo as the bells. Their family history is also a history of Chelaxian imperialism. The boots of Chelaxian imperialism are felt further afield than just Kintargo and have been on the ground long before Aroden's death. Vivian's grandmother, Aya, tells stories of when Vivian's long-dead grandfather, Samuel, rescued Aya when his fellows had set her village aflame in what is now called Sargava. Grandmother Aya had been a witch doctor who guided and protected her people. Her people believed that her ancestors had descended from the heavens to protect their tribe. But after her people had been put to the sword and given to the flames, there was no tribe to protect. Aya travelled north with her lover to his home Kintargo. Samuel and Aya lived happily in Kintargo for decades. As a sailor and adventurer, Samuel was often away from Kintargo, but he always returned to Aya and their growing family. For her part, Aya gained a reputation as a healer and a wise woman in Yolubilis Harbor. Their love weathered the birth of the Age of Lost Omens and the rise of House Thrune. Time, however, is not so easily denied. Though she appears human, time touchs Aya lightly. In the six score years since she came north to Kintargo, time has silvered some of her hair, but has stolen none of her grace. The same cannot be said for her beloved Samuel and most of their sons and daughters. Aya bore only one daughter who shared in heaven's blessing, Kiva. That daughter gave birth to a grandchild, Vivian, who also shares that blessing. Blessed by the heavens or not, Aya loves all her children equally. Aya's family grew, they bought the houses and buildings next to her home, creating a large-interconnected and intergenerational home. Her large, ramshackle home in the harbor district has housed her children, her grandchildren, and even her great grandchildren. Vivian grew up in this home raised by her grandmother, her aunts, and her cousins. Kiva has always been something of a firebrand, having spent many years in Sargava advocating for the rights of the native Mgwani. Kiva returned to Kintargo only long enough to bear her daughter and leave her in Aya's care. Despite her mother's absence, Vivian's childhood was a happy one. She loves her family, and she loves Kintargo. The city seemed almost a living thing to her -- vibrant and vital. When her magic quickened so too did her connection to the city. Its art and its mysteries beckon and compel her. In caring for the people of the city, the city itself thrives. Until Barzillai arrived in Kintargo, Vivian seemed posed to follow in her grandmother's footsteps as a healer and wise woman. But all that changed the moment that terrible day that Thrune came to Kintargo and Grandmother Aya vanished. First came shock. The Darr matriarch bore no love for Chelaxian imperial authority, but she had always been beneath their notice. She did not worship a proscribed deity. In fact, few in Kintargo had ever heard of the Wendo. She was not a public agitator. She did not even drink mint tea. None of that changed the fact that she is missing. The Darr clan long guided by her seemingly eternal hand was set adrift in a city on the edge of rebellion. Had Aya actually been a member of the Silver Ravens? Vivian doesn't know, but she intends to find out. Her family needs leadership. Her city needs healing. Recently, a contact who swears he has information concerning Aya promised to meet Vivian in Aria Park.
