Oh wait, I'm sorry, I only have 1 spell slot as a warlock. Sorry, first time warlock so I can't hex. That takes off 5 damage, bringing it to 8 if I hit.

Note, if they weren't stacked on top of each other there are only 7 5 ft squares in a burning hands -15 ft cone.

Vistra's eyes sparkle with the light of battle. She pulls out the dagger and hexes the man who hit her before rushing him with her battleaxe.

Vistra casts burning hands on as many of them as possible, without hitting the child.

Vistra places her hand on her battleaxe, but resists the urge to draw it.

"Gah! Fine! Who in our group can see if they can save whoever that timber fell on? I'll round up that other kid" Vistra heads over to the suspicious man and child.

first let's see what these people have to say? I feel like in game they might respond quickly even if we're continuing conversation. there's like 5,000 things to do here before we get hungry. A list:
treat the guy if possible under the fallen wood
investigate the suspicious character talking to the kid, e.g. get the kids grouped
get wounded under shelter, prevent exposure (lot of people are wet)
lastly, figure out why it's such a s$*$ show - who's in charge if anyone in town? are other survivors regrouping in a particular location? etc.

"WHAT IN THE HELLS ARE YOU DOING PEOPLE ARE DYING OUT HERE - IF YOU'RE GRAVEDIGGERS NOW'S NOT THE TIME!" Vistra screams at the men, completely bamboozled about why they're doing something other than fishing people out of the water and seeing to the living.

"That building's about to fall!" Vistra calls, as her eyes grow wild and she tries to do everything at once.
Rushing towards the mound, she continues "All children to the teacher, including you there talking to the man! Carric, we got something moving over here and I don't like the look of it!"

Vistra struggles to keep any desperation out of her voice amidst the incredibly chaotic scene.

Vistra looks for something to paddle with. Depending on the current or if no paddle, she'll get in the water and drag the raft towards the mother.

"Creepy ladies offering things in the middle of a disaster are bad news! Stay away from her! she calls to Starflower.

Vistra nods. Over time, she's probably picked up on some of her and Carric's similar habits - the way a pack has to be put together, light sleeping, etc. from their shared military background. Carric, perhaps more than the others, she trusts to watch her back.

With Carric's help, Vistra is barely able to drag the raft back.

"LEAVE THE DEAD OLD MAN YE CAN'T HELP 'EM AND YOU, CEASE YOUR YAMMERING IF YE INTEND TO DIE THEN GET ON WITH IT, YE 'AVEN'T LOST YER BREATH YET EH? " Vistra roars as she surges towards the raft of children.
if the raft is far, she'll take a rope from the side of her pack and sling it at them, otherwise she tries to get through the water to help grab the raft.

I think the most interesting discusiion is how did we meet and decide on this quest?

Sell the shortbow and the light crossbow for 25 total, sell leather for
5, leaving me 60 gold. I sell the scholars pack for 20 and buy a dungeoneer's pack and profit 8 gp,
Spend 50 on scale mail and 10 on a battleaxe which leaves me the 8, minus 1 healer's kit leaving 3, buy 3 javelins and save 1.5 gp.

Vistra is a female dwarf who made her pact in order to see that she and her fellows survived battle. However, her unnatural survival was discovered. Rather than cause a great scandal, she was quietly "retired." Now she's willing to do anything to regain the trust and respect of others and herself, and has little to lose.
