(BTW, Aleziella, you forgot to include the +1 morale bonus to your attack from Viria's Bless spell.)

As the late Gaedren's "pet" lunged at her and thankfully missed, Viria attempted to get herself out of the immediate range of the crocodile's maw, without giving it another chance to lunge/bite at her again.

Acrobatics check to move through threatened square with Guidance bonus: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 1 = 20 (Hopefully that succeeds so croc doesn't get an AoO on Viria as she used acro to move out of the way at half speed, past Sykes.)

Then laying her hand gently on Sykes' shoulder, Viria began to cast, hoping to grant him divine guidance in his efforts against the crocodile. "May the Everlight's wisdom guide your hand against our foe."

(Move action: Acro to move through threatened square at half speed
Standard action: Cast Guidance on Sykes (+1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, duration 1 min or until discharged.)

"Ah, my little "priestess" have you come to try and redeem old Lamm? Save your breath to explain to her how you failed after I send you off to meet her personally."

He wished to antagonise her with his words and the priestess gave Gaedren a small smile before replying in low, steady voice "The Everlight is beyond your reach, Gaedren Lamm, and, when it is my time to leave behind this mortal coil, I would gladly feel her divine succour. Succour which will be denied you."

Viria, light mace still in hand, took a careful step forward (5ft), and, not knowing where Lamm's pet crocodile had sunk to or when it would rise, she waited defensively for Aleziella to undertake her slumber hex, as the witch had planned before entering through the door.

As Sykes opened the door and was readying himself to crawl through, Viria quietly called upon her goddess, "Fill us with your divine strength , O' Everlight, so we may pass through this door and battle what is within with heartened courage." With golden eyes shining, a burst of divine magic came forth from Viria and passed through each ally on either side of her; filling her and them with a deeper, resolute fire. And when it was her turn to move toward the the half-sized doorway, she started forward and then positioned herself by the small opening until she could move through it.

(Viria cast Bless on herself and her allies. All the party receive a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects for 1 minute.)

I think Hookshanks should be placed in the middle of the party to ensure he doesn't run away or break his bonds and attack us from behind. I think it's best for Joeseph to take the flank because it makes no sense for the cleric with the lowest AC to be right at the back, protecting the flank. I'm used to always having my cleric protected and in the middle of the order in my other games, so it's strange for me that Viria is always in the back of the party.

I would say we weren't hurt enough to warrant a channel energy, but then I saw you have a million per day. XD

Looking to Joeseph, Viria simply and quietly added, "I will heal us as soon as I am able," and said no more on the matter.

Alezeilla wrote:

"I think it's better to go this route. He won't expect us coming here." ...Sykes nods to the harrower, not having any objections to the current plans.

With Aleziella and Sykes resolved to continue on this path toward Lamm, a nodding Viria acquiesced with some reservation. They had come this far so she could concede so as to not impede their progress.

Aleziella wrote:

"I suggest that Sykes go first, then I go second. My protection spell is still active and if he's alert, I could try to put him to sleep. What do you think?" Aleziella says and looks expectantly to the others.

"I do not have issue with Sykes and you leading the way. If you can put Lamm to sleep all the better. I feel, however, that the gnome should be kept in the middle of the party to ensure he doesn't run, warn or break free of his bindings and attack us from behind. I prefer to follow the gnome and Joeseph protect the rear for he is better able than I in such matters." Viria gave Joeseph a small, gentle smile for she did not want to upset or displease him with her suggestion. Still, she felt awkward for she did not know any of her companions very well.

(Suggested order: Sykes, Aleziella, Hookshanks, Viria, Joeseph.)

Alezeilla wrote:

"We might as well get guidance up on everyone before we go in, anything to help tip the scales in our favor, right?"

"Such a boon is sensible. If you use your cards on Sykes, I can call upon the Everlight's divine guidance on Joeseph and myself."

Viria nodded her head and then speaking the words to her goddess' guidance spell, she laid her hand on Joeseph's arm and then repeated it on herself before waiting for her turn to enter through the secret door into the narrow space.

Viria casts Guidance on Joeseph and then on herself. Lasts 1 minute or until discharged. I have moved my token into relative place - I'm unable to move Hookshanks' token, as Viria wants him before her in order.

When Joeseph's gestures to the spider bites, Viria nodded in understanding. Quietly to him, she said, "Thank you for trying to protect me from the spiders. One bit into my flesh, yet it is a mild flesh wound. Once we are away from these spiders, I can heal the both of us, if you wish? Please let me know." (Not sure if some of the spiders are not quite dead and since Viria doesn't have selective channelling at this level, I don't want her to restore some of the spiders to health if they're dying but not dead. If they are truly dead, via GM clarification, then Viria can channel to remove the non-lethal damage as neither she nor Joespeh were poisoned by the venom.)

"I am uncertain this is the best route to Lamm's hiding place - it appears quite a difficult course with narrow corridors and the possibility of shark attacks. Do we truly wish to continue this way?" she furtively asked her companions, as she glanced once more at the secret door in the port side of the hull and watched Joeseph's motion with the keys.

Round 4

Once again, Viria moved forward 5 ft to strike at the wounded (green) spider with her light mace.

Damage, if hits: 1d6 ⇒ 4

(And she misses, again. Ha.)

Fighting with physical weapons was not something she was particularly good at; however Viria was not not going to give in as the spider kept biting poor Joeseph. Swinging, once again, with her light mace, Viria attempted to whack the (green) spider.

Lt Mace attack on green spider: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Then, wishing not to be bitten herself, she took a 5ft step back away from it.

Seeing the (green) spider sinks its fangs into Joeseph's leg, Viria knew she had to try to help him so he in turn finish the creature off and then help Sykes. However, she wanted to conserve her fire magic in case there was a larger clash/threat waiting for them.

Transferring her light mace back into her true hand, Viria moved 5ft diagonally - close to the charred remains of the spider she had burned not that long ago - and swung at the (green spider) with her light mace, hoping she could bash the creature with the weapon.

Swapping her light mace into her off hand and taking a 5ft step back from the red marked spider, Viria called upon the Everlight's fiery flames to aid her; her amber eyes glowing with golden light.

With outstretched hand, she released a small bolt of divine fire toward the spider, concentrating and protecting herself in the endeavour.

I'm fine where I've been put on the new map. I just realised there was a map to the right once I minimised the page.

I don't think Sykes used his Guidance bonus from the recent card drawing Aleziella did for him. And it lasts a minute if not discharged, so I think there are still rounds remaining? There are also rounds remaining on Joeseph's Guidance boon.

Viria was all for getting more answers off the captured gnome, yet it only seemed to be causing frustrations within her companions and she was afraid they would boil over soon and the gnome would be put to death.

As Aleziella and Sykes worked together to press Hookshanks with their strength of words and character, Viria, instead, endeavoured to begin her search for the secret door; firstly calling upon her goddess for divine guidance, with laying of her hand on her side, "Everlight, grant me keener focus with which to aid my friends in search of this door." Then using the light provided by Joeseph's lantern, Viria started her search.

It was good that the others appeared to know that it was a drain spider for she could not identify it. And, Sykes had ended its life as soon as it had appeared, which Viria was grateful for. When no other spider immediately came to strike, Viria took a breath as Aleziella levied accusation against the gnome.

In quiet voice she attempted to calm any fraying tempers, "If the gnome had known, he would have run or hidden at the very least. Hookshanks does not strike me as a creature who would risk his life, even with bound hands. Aleziella is correct in saying we must be more vigilant against further attacks. It appears this place is well suited to Lamm and his need of a secure hiding place. Sykes has a fine blade arm, which is a boon." Looking to him directly, she added quiet praise, "Well done, Master Sykes. You promptly ended the threat."

Then turning her attention back to the gnome she instructed in low voice lest Lamm or any other enemy would hear her, "Lead on then, Hookshanks. The sooner we find Lamm the better. We have the children to attend to afterward."

From her position at the back, she readied herself to start moving again, her eyes scanning the immediate surrounds in search of more large spider and alike. Her steps were steady and made as quietly as possible; light mace still in hand.

Viria did not like the situation they found themselves in. Her nose wrinkled at the musty air around them and she looked keenly at the thick cobwebs wondering about the spiders that wove them.

She waited as Hookshanks was prodded to lead them and the other sets for the narrow stairs leading down to the hold. This does not bode well, Viria mused silently.I hope this is not a trap.

Keeping look out from the back, Viria's eyes scanned behind her and then forward as she too began the climb down the stairs behind the others.

She still held the light mace in one hand and she reached out and touched Joeseph's forearm as he pointed out to his lantern to Aleziella.

The words of Viria's spell were low and quiet lest she disturb or inform anything waiting below stairs and beyond in the hold.

"Everlight, lend your insight to this man who defends us in this perilous venture."

Then she turned silent as she moved cautiously down.

Viria cast Guidance on Joeseph.

Viria listened to the gnome Hookshank's reply and the answer did not sound like a lie.

Let us hope he is telling the truth as the hour grows late and I cannot discern truth from tale in this moment. Everlight be with us until the end, she mused inwardly.

At Joeseph's behest to go, Viria began to move forward in her position at the back of the party.

Perception to hear/see something noteworthy as they make their way outside to the old walkway: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Viria quietly pondered the old walkway outside the fishery. It had creaked rather loudly earlier and even if all of them travelled across one at a time, it would still groan under their combined weight when they all reached the end of it.

I am not a confident swimmer if that old walkway gives way and falls into the water. I will be an easy mark for the sharks, Viria silently rued.

"I agree with finding and dealing with Lamm first. I must confess, for the sake of prudence, I am not a competent swimmer if the walkway were to give under our combined company." Viria's cheeks flushed at the admission before the party, for she did not want to appear to be a hindrance to them.

Looking to the gnome, Viria asked him, "Hookshanks, does Lamm have any other men guarding this place/him or are you and your two deceased friends the only ones apart from the children?"

Once she received answer from the bound gnome, Viria, with light mace still in hand, fell quietly into line with the others and made for the walkway on the outside of the building in their settled effort to reach Lamm's hiding place.

Viria's brow furrowed as she attempted to gauge how truthful the gnome was being in relation to his interaction with the children. She could not read the creature in the moment and it was a little frustrating.

She listened as Joeseph intimated that Hookshanks was lying and suggesting some kind of incentive. Aleziella made the point that the children would let us know how they had been treated by the gnome when they found them, and that made sense.

"The wand and potion would be useful. We should certainly take those," she quietly added to Aleziella's question to Sykes regarding the gear. If none of the companions moved to collect those, she would do so and store them in her belt pouch.

"Joeseph perhaps get the gnome on his feet and ready to move? Are we going to go ahead and gag him, or, do we hope he doesn't call out for aid as he guides us to the fishery floor and then along the dangerous boardwalk?"

Viria paused to give the question some thought before replying quietly, "If Hookshanks leads the way and does what he can to aid and does not betray us, then it would go some way to atoning for his past misdeeds. The Everlight is gracious and patient. Yet, if he would deceive and lead us toward peril, then he will have sealed his fate." The priestess gave a definitive nod to accentuate the point.

"Do you imagine he can move about without a gag and not call out for help or warning? I fear I do not at this juncture. He can still lead and point the way without using his voice, so I would see him gagged until our purpose is done this night."

Okay, I'm headed to bed. I'll check the board in my morning. Night! :)

Viria dropped her golden gaze to the tied gnome, and proceeded quietly, "They call you Hookshanks? It is good that you do not wish to die for Gaedren Lamm. Which means he must be dispatched quickly. Where is he and the children, now? Depending on how quickly you answer us on both counts, will depend on whether my friends will allow you to live and leave this place. Thank you, all. I had a lovely bday - my family planned a special dinner - and then my brother and his family skyped with us when we were cutting the cake. That was a lovely surprise, especially since we can't be together and celebrate as per normal. :)

"Are we going to tie up the other one, as well?" Viria quietly asked.

With one bound already, one dead and the other hexed by Aleziella, Viria wondered how many more would be coming and what would they do with them.

She watched Aleziella move toward the door with her weapon in hand and then Viria's gaze turned to the tied gnome struggling against his bindings to no avail.

So, she moved over to it and with light mace in hand, guarded over it quietly stating, "Do not struggle or raise alarm. My friends are dispatching your friends. It is best you do not give them further trouble."

Viria has taken a move action and will hold her standard action until she sees what is going on in the other room with Sykes and Aleziella...

Killing was not in her nature, and, attacking a prone, sleeping creature, no matter how awful a thief he was, was not palatable to her.

"Perhaps we can tie up the sleeping gnome?" she furtively asked her companions.

Instead of attacking, Viria moved carefully around Aleziella to stand behind Sykes, and, she began quietly casting, laying a hand on the man's arm, "Guide him as he endeavours to protect us, gracious Everlight."

Joseph, the Guidance spell lasts 1 min per level or until discharged. Since you used the +1 bonus this round in your attack, it’s used up and there are no more rounds of Guidance remaining (I just wanted to remind you of this as I saw you had 2 rounds of Guidance remaining on your alias line). Thanks. :)

Viria was never one to react violently first, yet the situation seemed to be growing more dangerous in the room, as the gnome came to stand behind Joeseph. She left the now slumbering "Giggles" to the others and concentrated on the gnome.

Shifting the light mace into her off-hand, Viria took a 5ft step back and quietly calling upon the Everlight's cleansing flame, "I cleanse this villain by the fire of the Everlight," outstretched her true hand toward the gnome and released a single bolt of scorching divine fire at him.

The stench of rotting things from the door Sykes had recently forced opened was foul, yet it was not unfamiliar to her - her childhood had been filled with such unpleasantness.

Hearing the voice from beyond the southern door and someone named Giggles coming to investigate, Viria quickly and in low voice began to cast her spell, laying her free hand against her side. "Guide me with your eternal grace, Everlight."

Since Guidance is still active on Joeseph, Viria casts Guidance on herself.

As Joeseph's lantern light still shone, Viria then crouched down a little by the large table to the her side, as Aleziella had quietly advised to hide somewhere, and watched with her light mace in hand; waiting to see who would come through the door and if Aleziella's sleep hex would have its desired effect.

Thanks for the clarification on the light situation, GM Whiterose. :)

As the lantern light filtered inside the small room and Viria watched as Joeseph tried every door to see if it was unlocked, she noted he found all locked and asked Sykes for his prying tool.

Remaining in her position and standing adjacent to Joeseph, Viria quietly (in an effort not to have her voice carry beyond the doors) called upon her goddess' divine guidance to aid Joeseph in his next efforts/endeavours. (Since Sykes is still outside/by the entrance door and Aleziella has the same spell, I will have Viria cast Guidance on Joeseph to help him out in this or any other endeavour within the next minute.) Motioning in the air before laying her free hand on the older man's arm, she whispered the words, "May your coming efforts be guided by the grace of the Everlight."

Apologies. Didn’t realise Sykes has an alternate racial trait giving him Darkvision. I suppose then it’s only Viria with basic human sight and can’t see well in dim light and not at all in darkness without a light source. I would still like to know how dark it is inside the warehouse/fishery because it affects Viria’s ability to see and move about; which then affects her actions and impacts the group.

Viria followed silently behind the others; leaving the men to do what they could to find or make an access into the warehouse.

GM, How much light is in the room, please? Being we've come after sunset, would there be no light in the room since it seems only surrounded by doors and no windows or is there some light source left on in the chamber? Plus, most of us being human, if its dark, not certain how much we can make out of what's in the room/office. Aleziella may be able to discern something with her lowlight vision, as well as Joeseph presently with his keen senses in play giving him lowlight. Not sure about Sykes or Viria.

Viria focused with her eyes as well as she could and hoped to discern anything of import in the room they had just entered. She then stopped moving and simply listened for sounds coming from behind/beyond any of the closed(?) doors. Even though she was not adept in moving without notice or sound, especially in dim or dark chambers, Viria did her best to be as quiet as possible in the room; light mace still in hand.

They had no idea what was going on inside the locked fishery or the number of Gaedren Lamm's people waiting/sleeping inside. Think of the children, Viria. You need to free them; even if it means going into the rat's nest and possible danger.

Viria nodded in Sykes direction and then moved along with him and Aleziella; ensuring her steps were as quiet as possible. She was not sure where Sykes and Joeseph had hidden to watch the warehouse, so she did not tarry in following him, especially in the fast fading light.

As Aleziella imbued their male companions with the power of her harrow cards, Viria did not attempt to undertake the same spell. Instead, she moved along with Aleziella, at a safe distance behind Joeseph and Sykes, attempting to move as quietly as she could muster and as indistinct so as to not draw any undue notice of any passerby or hidden scout.

Then moving to a position that would be secure and give her/them a line of sight to the old fishery/wharf, she looked out in the dusklight; straining her eyes to see further afield as the last light in the sky was growing dimmer.

From her position, Viria began to softly cast, calling upon the Everlight's guiding grace, "Let me aid my companions; guide my body and eyes, o' Everlight.", laying her hand against her side.

Stealth with Guidance to not be noticed/observed from their hiding place/vantage point: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 + 1 = 16

Then, she repeated the same spell on herself and concentrated on the movement of her male allies, until she lost sight of them. Viria then drew her gaze to the double doors and the other entry points for any signs of movement or threat; hoping Joeseph and Sykes could move closer and undertake their initial scouting mission without Lamm's Lambs marking their intent.

Just a courtesy heads up: The power in my suburb is going down for the whole day tomorrow for some maintenance work. So new posting from Viria will have to wait until my evening when it's back up (fingers crossed). Worst time for them to be doing maintenance work when we're all working from home due to the coronavirus. My phone battery life sucks at the moment and I can't keep posting from it or else I won't have any phone service either.

Patience, prudence, noble sacrifices, enlightenment, camaraderie, compassion, prophecy...

Viria was quietly pondering the words of Zellara, when the woman's ghostly form disappeared due to an exhaustion of magic.

Her new companions voices filtered into her mind and she turned her attention to them. When Aleziella's talk of compassion was directed toward her, Viria watched as the Elf touched her form suggestively before winking at Sykes. Viria's cheeks flushed at the other woman's instant and fleeting boldness. Sykes' smile seemed to suggest he was not displeased by her action.

Hearing Sykes speak of the children, Viria promptly nodded, "Aye, the children must be rescued. Lamm cannot take them down with him. He may try to use them as a shield, if we come for him. I would not see them harmed."

Joeseph and Aleziella seemed eager to getting moving to the old fishery. "Patience and prudence. Sykes and Joeseph to scout and once they get back to us and we know what is going on on the wharf/inside the old fishery, then Aleziella and I can move closer, too."

Viria stood up and announced politely, "I am ready."
