Did any of your players run Adventure Paths before the current homebrew? Some of those seriously encourage the crowbar style of looting. Here's a selection of "treasure" from the second book of Carrion Crown, many of which are furnishings in a house the PCs were invited to visit -- by all means, rob your host.

Various encounters along the way:

And this next bunch in the house of our host. We chose not to rob him, so we got none of the items listed below:

I actually...um...borrowed...a magical ring while we were making our way through that manor and put it to good use.

....I did give it back to the owner when we were done.

The problem ... well, one of the many problems ... with Detect Evil is that it's binary. Yes or no. No gradients. Crazy psycho baby eater registers the same as makes babies cry for fun.
The icing on that particular piece of the alignment fruitcake is that a guy who stoically smashes baby goblins heads against the cave wall after killing their parents...he's just being merciful, and pings Capital-G Good.

Flesh to stone the bastard.

Played a celestial sorcerer with a dhampir paladin half-brother. Healed him with Heavenly Fire as an emergency fallback. My oracle cohort also picked up inflict wounds just for him.

Felt good man.

And yeah, the family angle is really paying off both for party cohesion and chemistry.

We've got the CV3 formula covered pretty well. But if there are clock towers with floating heads I am going to be so upset.
