Those are all good ideas. I would go with the barbarian ranger combo if you are lookiing for a good combat character, after all you are giving up your spell casting ability. Use TH weapons and maybe go with a stone great axe or a great club. Use a spear and carry a dagger. Throw your weapon abilities into ranged cause even Tarzan used a bow. (The books not the movies). Your DM may be leary about starting you off with a sabretoothed tiger right off the get so see if maybe you can come up with a lesser hit die saber and he levels up with you hit die wise until you hit your animal companion level. This way the animal comes up with you and your character looks more like a king of the jungle type. Focus on dex based feats and stuff that adds to your AC so you can keep the amount of armor down and retain that wild man flavor. Well that's my 2 coppers worth.
No one really said that they hated the Forgotten Realms, they were merely pointing out the differences. There are quite a few differences, still there is no reason for a simple discussion to devolve into a "My world is Better than Yours" argument. Honestly for a long time I was pissed off for a long time at 4E. I just realized that other people like certain things. For me the new Pathfinder system and 3.5 are for me. This was simply a person asking for advice. I think we all gave it as best we could.

The DM should have kindly offered the offending player an opportunity to create a 1st level character if he wanted to continue playing; and warn him that any further disruptions would result in his being barred from the group. If this was not pleasing to him, just bid him adieu. Note that a paladin's action of this type should also have serious negative consequences with relation to the human-elf interactions in the campaign. We were just talking about this last night at a gamer's meeting. The funniest part was when the paladin asked for the experience for killing the elf. You have to remember the elven commander specifically asked the elven contingent to refrain from violence. It was a campaign that led them into epic with the paladin fading into obscurity. The part 2 to the whole campaign was brilliant and everyone learned a grew from the experience.
Dont get me wrong FR has its place and Im still a fan but Greyhawk is always going to be the beginning. Lisa's post is fantastic. My advice to anyone is dont limit yourself to one world. Play a little of them all and see which one kicks into your awesome fantasy taste buds. I hate fanboy fighting and I refuse to say one setting is better than another, all of them meet a certain need. For the record one of my fave settings was Ravenloft, we played the Grand Conjunction and it was one fun campaign. As much as I like it I wouldnt say that it was better than anything else.
Oh Lord, anything sword and sorcery is fantastic. Its a darker tone but the world itself is well thought out. I liked it because it reminded me alot of Lankhmar and the types of Jack Vance novels, it has that feeling of a world ruined and heroes trying to set it to rights again. If you go the Sword and Sorcery way let me recommend City of Mithril, and Relics and Rituals. Both of these you can get used very cheap. Also check out the Veshian Vigils. If you get a chance look them up and tell me what you think.
I'm a big Realms fan but Greyhawk will always be my first love. I love the flexibility of the setting and the memories it brings back from first ed. I think Greyhawk is the better choice if you want to customize the world. I agree with the above posts. Temple of Elemental evil, all of Gord's adventures, all of these are in Greyhawk. The only thing I didn't like was the aftermath of the wars. Try it out and I believe you will love it.
I run a 3.5 game and a pathfinder game so I really don't know where to put this. There was an article in either Dungeon or Dragon that had tavern games in it and one was called Delayed Blast Fireball it was a game on chance and my players used to have a blast...no pun intended ... playing it with their characters. I have just received my collection after moving back to the states and some of them are missing. I can't seem to find the issue. Could someone please share a little knowledge so I can either try to get the back issue or the PDF?
I say that when you go into a city, spend an inordinate amount of party treasure on bird food to feed the local population. Then go around murdering cats even if it is someone's pet. Get a nice little collection of cat bodies and see what the druid does, maybe leave them under his bed or put them places where he will find them on other pc's.

I like this. Are you going to be putting up a campaign journal? Like I said I like the idea of scaling them down to medium. I think you have a good idea mate and keep in mind that you are the DM when all is said and done. I like the idea of giving them the gore and having it being socially unacceptable to use. Its a good story mod, it can lead to some good roleplaying,

I was just going to say the same thing about the LA. After looking at this I thought the LA should be a +2 right off. The benefits from the race outweigh many of the disadvantages. I would be interested in hearing thew back story, its sounds really interesting. I loved the Minotaurs in Dragonlance and their society.
With a group like that I would definitely look at giving some of the baddies character class levels. Alot of whispering Cairn is puzzles, so you might consider throwing a few random encounters. I believe there is a bar fight somewhere in there, beef up the toughs by maxing their hit points and maybe make them a little free with their weapon use. Thats my 2 coppers.
I noticed that alot of the pages such as Community 3E and Ema;s Sheets have gone away. On Ema's website it says he was asked to shut it down by WOTC. Did all the fan pages go away because of this? I miss being able to go to sites and see what others were doing for Prestige classes and such. Are there any left?

Anyway these are a few. It took us a year and three months to finish the adventure. My friend passed away about 7 months after. It was perhaps one of the greatest campaigns I have ever Dm'd and we want to have the miniatures of her characters and the various important characters of the Campaign story. The Mini's from WOTC just didnt cut it and I wanted something I could put a little of myself into. There is one complicated one that is a giant Eagle with a female rider and DEAR LORD is it bloody confusing. I just want to get these right. I do believe I am making it harder than it has to be.
Ok Im tired of buying prepainted Mini's. My best friend passed away and I wanted to get mini's of our last adventuring group together. Now I found the Mini's I wanted and I understand the painting part. How the devil do you assemble them. I was preparing to order them online and it said in the description "needs assembly". What exactly does that mean and do I have to have soldering gun and such prepared for this? Im diving head long into this and I just need advice from people who know what they are doing. Thanks for any input. Any Painting tips would be most helpful too. BTW I found a brush that looks like a hair on a stick, REALLY?!?!?!? Guess Im investing in a magnifying glass. Be gentle...
Al Qadim had fan pages where they have updated everything to 3.5. Google search the hell out of it and have fun. Leaf armor and your character is from the desert region? The old Al Qadim book was for 2e but it tells you about equipment in the desert. Chain shirts, and NO PLATE. The Dragon Hide Armor would be a cool addition. Sticking with the theme of your character look at the Desert type environs and the reason I suggested Sandstorm was for the flavor of some of the weapons and magical effects. BTW White Camels are sacred so it would be pretty cool if your holy war camel was white. Anywhoo have fun. Another 2e supplement that would have alot of good info is Anauroch, from the FR. I use alot of my 2e stuff for the information they provide not the rules. Sounds like a great character and I hope you let us know how it turned out.

John Templeton wrote: Were you able to play the war forged sorcerer? I came up with an interesting back story. Since he wanted a sorcerer to have a bloodline of some type, I went with the whole experimental-forged in the blood of a dragon-type. He's a warforged Sorcerer who has perhaps the lightest body i could get. I also went with the warforged feats to lighten him up as much as I could, so much for me having to lead everyone into combat. Im also playing him with a personality quirk....he is fascinated by the squishy insides and wants to experiment. This will be fun to hold back and not play a combat based character, I like being the support wuss.
I love the Realms. Its a bit different but to each their own, if you like it stick with it. If you dont...Dont. That is the one thing about our shared hobby, it doesnt matter what addition you play, or what you like....We are always going to survive if their is ever a magic, Dragon coming through a portal, Zombies invading the world...type event.

I much prefer Fluff to Crunch I dont want to get bogged down in rules. I love having a rules book to follow but I love the idea of taking a world and making it your own. Maybe it's the difference between older gamers and newer ones. Roleplaying right. Interesting backgrounds, a reason for you to be with your party, and creating that living breathing character that you are emotionally invested in cause he's like that model you worked on when you were smaller and invested the time and effort into it. Dont get me wrong as a DM Ive had to adapt to a party full of rules lawyers and that made for a great challenge too. The idea of giving a wolrd and a fantasy the living breathing aspects of life...now there's the love.

Lifes a succubus then you die. Its hard to get alot of people to travel. That and alot of 4E players are players, they want a game. What we need is a panel of experience. Pathfinder/OGL/D20 still has a large number of followers. Crap this better not screw up Gen Con for me.

Why dont we all just agree Murphy did it to obtain Mister cause he's the coolest cat in the world? Does anyone remember the FBI agents that were skin changers????? He has more enemies than a Hillbilly has toes. I dont know who did it but I would love to see it be some wicked twist. The book cant get here fast enough.
I agree that Hags would use minions as their primary henchmen. I would use imps and maybe some low level Charmed creatures. An Annis Hag would use forrest animals and twist the heck out of them. Remember that not all hags are physical and for that matter witches either. While the characters are low level, let them see a Night Hag on a Nightmare. Let them cringe a little before she rides off letting them know the they are beneath her. A powerful Hag would terrorize the heck out of low level PCs just for the fun of it. At mid level you might want to consider Hagspawn toughs or maybe have an above average Hagspawn villain as a re-occurring bad guy.

I like challenging players that work well in the group. One of these times I have to post the story of our bard that passed out everytime he saw blood..... If you challenge the DM it keeps things fresh and its good to see how other people look at the game its when you continually monkey wrench the heck out of game that it becomes a problem. I have a post on her about the way my player in question chopped the head off of another player's character. Anywhoo...like I said I love the challenge and I love to argue with rules lawyers but at the end of the day the guy behind the screen is the Great and Powerful OZ. Btw the DM that actually passed out had an inner ear infection and when he got so bleedin mad the blood ruched to his head and he fell out of his chair senseless, everyone was wondering what to do, I was wondering if I could make it to the Pizza before everyone figured out this was a pause in the game.
I actually had a player that drove me to outlaw Chaotic Neutral in my game. In his mind set Chaotic Neutral meant, I can do anything I want and screw the whole party just for the fun of it and there is nothing my DM can do about it. I swear that our other DM, we switched off every other month, actually got so mad that he passed out. A good mate of mine that posts on here can tell you the same. I totally understand the reason for the DM said so rule.

Anyway Im running an old FR campaign and I am using the Well of Time to throw them into the future to give them a look at the new Forgotten Realms. Im not going to throw the money into a 4E Library unless they like it. I really was interested in how the change effected people's games and if anyone stuck with it. -V-

I agree with Bloodhawk. It is from the conjuration school so there would be no SR. You dont get SR against a summoned monster when its clawing your gonads out. It brings something physical into existence. As for turning invisible with the Dust of Appearance on you, I suppose if you want to keep memorizing invisibility spells or using your spell slots have at it. I suppose its all up to the DM who is of course always right. -V-
