Background Notes:
Viator/Shoru

Notes: Shoru's birth in a hold of orcs just began his travails. Birthed small he was not treated well and growing up nothing improved until the Shaman decides that Shoru had what it takes to be a shaman himself, his parents were glad to be rid of the runt. The other apprentices did not like this and made the little guy as miserable as they could. The shaman found the tyke as wise and doggedly studious as the others were not. So years went by with the bullied child learning to survive in every way.

Soon after his initiation at 11 summers or so, the old shaman died. The strongest apprentice was quick to claim the position, and beat Shoru at once, telling him to leave or be fed to the livestock. Shoru, having no other option, joined the riskiest raiding group, going long distances, having the hardest time, often getting killed. Little was expected of them and less of Shoru.

After a few good and many less good raids, they came upon a caravan. It looked as though it had been through a tough time, many of the guards were wounded. They attacked, the beleaguered merchants gave excellent account of themselves but were losing the fight. Shoru, as usual, risked as little as he could get away with, when the warband leader, hard pressed snarled, "Quick all attack, full assault". Following a voice cried out, "100 Gold, to any that aid us." The leader laughed saying, "Your gold is mine, and your family as well." Shoru knew that if he joined the attack he'd certainly would die, but if he did they kill him - wait what is the in the dead guy's hand? Shoru takes out an alchemical ball, he looks toward the leader and his favorites then throws it at them, screaming. "I accept, merchant man" The ball explodes wreaking havoc on the raiders. Shoru spears the leader himself.

The man came leading a small group of teamsters with him. He was a priest of Abadar got of trade and would honor the contract made. Instead of the gold Shoru was fostered by him and given a new name Viator the traveler. Once again the little runt would be a Shaman's - a priest's apprentice. But his treatment was night to day better. With food and just rest Viator grew strong until one day he was offered a chance at a great reward.
