Verra mumbles to herself, "yes, I heard him, but I...". She turns to the guard, smiling. "Well, I hope not. We may jus' need to run go grab our friend real quick. And we can meet you shortly to talk about that job."
"Only saw two. Johnny followed 'em to see what's what."
Verra nods. "Can you be sneaky? See if you can keep an eye on where they go, and I'll go grab the others." She gives Johnny a small hug, as if old friends are parting, and slaps him on the back. She then heads for the bar.
Nodding to Johnny, Verra agreed. "Guess we best get to it."
"Aww, shucks, Emma. It's been nice having a real place to work."

"This is a nice setup you have here, Emma. Very impressive. Girl could get used to a setup like this."

As much as she wants to get clean and take a rest in a bed where she doesn't feel like she has to watch over her shoulder, Verra can't help wanting to watch a professional like Doc Brown work. "Of course, I'll ask permission. You don't go pokin' around someone else's stuff without askin'."
"Emma it is, then," Verra says, clearly excited to see what exactly that non-lethal powder is. "My compatriots and I were hoping you could fill an order for some special loads, silver, cold iron, that sort of thing. And, uh, if you need any help around here with that thar powder you got, you jess let me know." She tries to give the gnome her most friendly smile, clearly meaning every word.
"THAT is a down-right sensible suggestion."
Although she seems a bit distracted by the engineering of the place, Verra whistles low and long at the reward. "Don't mind sharin' one bit. 285 gold is nuthin' to sneeze at. And it's harder to spend the whole two grand if yer dead." She sighs to herself softly. "Yea, yea, and 71 coppers." Verra shrugs at the sheriff's question. "Really, it was more her guards that put up a struggle. 'sprobably why they aren't still livin'. SHE was more the cowardly type. Not too surprisin'."
"Well that depends on how much the reward is, now doesn't it?" Verra jokes with Jeremy. [b]"I believe I'll start with some lunch. Can you point me to a good eatin' spot?" As she hitches up her horse, she mutters a few things to herself(?) about being more prepared the next time a worm shows up. A little WARNING would be nice, ya know.
Verra softly sighs as they enter the gates of the town. Her shoulders seem to relax, just a bit of the tension easing out of them. She gives Mandrake a friendly wave. She smiles at Mira, and says, "I believe after we get this crook turned in, I may well treat myself to a bath. Something about being face to "face" with a giant worm makes me think I'd like to appreciate some of the little things in life." She rubs her horses neck affectionately. "I may have to get you a bath as well."
"No shame in living to fight another day," Verra says as she tries to gather her things and mount her horse.
"Je-freakin'-hosephat! What a monster!" Verra turns her head slightly. "Shai halud? What kind of exclamation is that?" With one hand on the reins of her horse, her other hand springs up, pistol blazing. "Not sure this will hurt something that size, but there's only one way to find out!"
"What in tarnation?!"
"Easy, girl," Verra says, stroking the horse's neck. "Let's get you saddled up before you go sprinting off."

I know Shadow's out of town, but just a heads up. I will be out of town til Monday. I hope to still be able to post, but please bot me if needed. Thanks.
Verra volunteers for first watch. "I gotta couple'a notes I wanna make anyway. No sense in being awake if y'ain't gonna be alert to what's goin' on, right?" She pulls out her notebook and continues scratching away at something or other. It looks like she might be constructing a detailed map of the places the group has been, with notes describing landscape features.
"I guess a few of us ought to round up the strays."
Verra pets her horses neck to soothe him. She hops down pulling out a few vials from her pockets. She takes samples from one of the flies and of its acidic spew, quickly and expertly capping the vials and replacing them in her pockets. She re-mounts her horse and nods to Erissa. "Lead on. I'd rather not spend another night out here if it's all the same to you."
Verra wheels her horse again to get a shot off at the retreating fly.
She softly sighs, "Yes, you're free to remind me that I need special loads for these occasions."
"Now y'all 've gone and made me mad." Vera whips out her revolver and takes a shot at the nearest fly.
Verra wheels her horse around and tries the finish the fly with her rapier.
A palpable stab, but the flies are tough...
Verra calls out, "If any of you've got cold iron weapons, now's the time to use 'em. These varmints will shrug off just about anything else." Her horse nervously dances around ,
Verra whips out her rapier and stabs at the insect who attacked her.
"Around is fine. Lead on, Errisa." Verra sighs. "No, I will not suggest we let the prisoner ride in front to find the holes."
Verra looks up from the book she is making notes in.
"Most sinkholes are the result of dissolution, the long-term action of underground water on stone. Since it eats away at the ground below, the ground above becomes fragile. There are quake prone areas that may have similar phenomena as stone pushes up against or slides past other stone leaving fractures." "Well they might have wanted to know," she mutters.
Verra mutters a couple of things to herself glancing at Johnny.
"Johnny, right? What is that you're making, a bomb? Her eyes go wide on seeing his funnel (no, it isn't a euphemism). And where did you get that funnel?! Oh my, I need to get one of those."
Before they have even left camp, Verra has out a small book into which she seems to be making a series of notes. Muttering to herself, she mixes a couple of reagents together while chewing a piece of jerky. Satisfied with something she apparently said to herself, she mounts up and continues to sketch and take notes as they ride on.
Verra tosses her hair out of her eyes. "Y'all go ahead and set a watch then. I'm happy to take a nap til I'm needed." She looks around to see if there seems to be a good spot to set up camp.
Just a head's up guys. I'm gonna be traveling for a week and may not be able to get internet access everywhere. Will update when I can, but feel free to make rolls for me.
"Hmm, I may have to come back here some time. Seems I might find some interesting stuff with a little digging." Verra helps load up the horses, offering to lead a few. No since letting a good critter go to waste, or tools for that matter. She rides next to OZ whenever possible, occasionally breaking down and barraging him with questions about his physical framework or how his consciousness resides within him. She has already started copious notes and engineering sketches.
"Good enough." Verra strikes a spark off onto the makeshift funeral bier. The chemicals quickly ignite, spread, and flare to white hot. I did not use too much phosphorus. I used just what was needed. The heat is remarkably intense and a thick black smoke pours off the bodies. She reaches into a saddle bag and grabs a piece of jerkey to gnaw on. "Well now, how far off is this town, Mira? I'm ready for a decent meal."
Tearing herself away from studying the robot, she heads over to her horse and rummages through her saddle a bit. She pulls out a few vials and a handful of horse feed. She soaks some of the straw and then lays bits of it on and around the corpses. She opens a second vial and sprinkles a bit over each body. She then liberally pours from a third vial and stores away each vial in a pocket or on her bandolier. A strong smell like lamp oil or kerosene begins to float from where she's working.
The enthusiasm from the tall woman almost radiates palpably out of her. "Now THAT is something you don't see every day!" She rolls her eyes a bit. "Yes, I suppose he DOES see it since it's his arm," she mutters sotto voce. "Name's Verra. Nice to meet y'all. Now then, how does your arm... do what you did?" She utters a barrage of questions before she holds up a hand.
"You are magnificent. Are you autonomous? Are you one of the gearsmen? Hmm, and would the singular be 'gearman'?"
Verra continues to wander around the site, stopping to pick up a few odd tools and pieces of machinery. A flash of teeth and a hint of a giggle escapes her lips at the mention of decapitation. She coughs to cover it up.
"Fair enough. Alive works for me. The town can see its own justice done." Seeing Mira tend to the dead, Verra sighs and seems a bit unsure of herself. She sheathes her revolver, mutters something, and nods as though some internal argument has been settled. She helps drag some of the bodies together. She pokes around some of the corpses, scrounging what useful bits she can find. Waste not, want not she murmurs to herself. She turns to Mira when they've finished. "If you don't find it too disrespectful, I may have a few oils that would help the bodies burn. I prefer the dead stay that way."

"Pardon my asking," says the tall red-haired woman, "but do you happen to know if the reward specifies Kharzess must be taken in alive?" She walks over and appraises the prisoner. "No need to waste a bullet if it isn't necessary, but better one now than ten later if she tries to escape." She sighs. "Not what I was looking for, but if there's a payout to be had, who am I to turn it down?" Spoiler:
"Any opinions on what's to be done with this one?" asks the tall red-head. "I'm of the opinion that people ought to lie in the bed they made. Seems like hers may be a VERY messy one." She walks around a bit, seemingly interested in the excavations, trying to figure out what was going on here.
