Unbreakable Survivor: A few months ago, bandits took everything you valued in life and left you barely alive. You managed to rebuild your life in the years since, and your tenacity has made you a local legend. Once per day as a full round action, you may shrug off some of your injuries and immediately heal a number of hit points equal to your Constitution modifier + 1 per Hit Die (+4 HP). Your reputation for tenacity inspires your neighbors, and you gain a +1 trait bonus whenever you attempt to influence residents of Phaendar with Diplomacy or Intimidate checks. At 6th level, your reputation spreads further across the nation, and you may apply your trait bonus on Diplomacy and Intimidate checks to influence all humanoids in Nirmathas.
Weapon Focus (Natural Weapons): You gain a +1 bonus on all attack rolls you make only using natural weapons.
Wild Empathy +4 (Ex): Improve the attitude of an animal, as if using Diplomacy.

Appearance:

Velox looks like a normal small in stature mature velociraptor adult. He has all the necessary tools for being a predator, sharp claws, white teeth designed for cutting, and razor sharp talons for the killing blow. As with all avian or avian-like predators, he has very large piercing yellow eyes which are pointing forward . He has brownish plumage, reddish shoulders, tail feathers with a white base and white tip which extends down his long tail. Around his waist, are a small belt and (2) pouches filled with something that jingle. Velox is not wearing or carrying any other gear at this time.

Background and Personality:

Background:

I was born in the Nirmathas Forest as a normal Velociraptor to an alpha pair in their pack. I was one of eight siblings, we didn't have names and nor any intelligence or real sentient conscious, just animal pack mentality. At first life was normal for a Velociraptor, we hid behind our parents or the pack when we were scared, we begged for food, we fought each other, and we pooped out of the nest. As we got older, we started to wander nearby to hunt things that were smaller than us. One day, I wandered too far from the nest and I started to feel like I was mutating. I called for my mother and smelled the area to see if I could get back but I was lost. Then I started to feel strange and started to stagger and lose conscious. When I awoke, it was to a dangerous scent, a scent of a predator nearby! I got on my two feet and ran out of there as fast as I could because it felt like I was morphing into something evil, aberrant, and I was prey! I was running so fast that I didn't watch or know where I was going and ran into a group of humanoids. The bandits caught me, caged me, and torture me horribly to near death! The next time I woke up, I saw a man reaching down at me but I had no energy and was too injured to fight back. I felt him pick me up and I lost consciousness.

When I awoke, I noticed that I was more aware of myself consciously and started to learn about my surroundings. The first thing I realize is that I was on nice bedding and I was in a cage. Then I saw my care taker and jailer. He was an old man in a black and white robe milling about the small stone room until he saw me, "Hey little friend, how are ya? Looks like you've been through a lot?!" He then opened the cage and place some food and water in the cage. I did not bother to attack nor try to escape since I was still bruised from my bandit ordeal. While I was eating slowly, I watch the old man inviting some human teenagers into the dwelling. They instantly ran towards me and normally I would have been freaked but I was then too sore for that! The old mage asked the students to sit down and they began to talk. At first I didn't understand them but slowly I began to understand each of their words. Eventually, after observing the old mage teach and converse with others, I learned the human tongue quite easily. Next, I learned Draconic which was even much easier since Dragons are related to us. Although, Dragons probably would have said we are descendant from them? As time went on and I healed back to full health, I fully learned the Draconic language. Normally, I would have forced my way out or bit the old guy but he saved me from death's door and kept me safe. The old man looked at me carefully, "Looks like you are almost healed up and I can let you go." I looked at him and he took a step back for he could tell I was actively thinking about something. I said to him, "I want to thank you for saving me, I gave myself the name Velox and what is yours?" The old man took a step back, turned white, and fell into his chair, "Well, you are the first of your kind to ever ask me that! I am Ralfo Shieldshade, town mage, and part of the Phaendar's Militia." I looked at the mage with my head cocked getting a better look at him, "Thank you! The mage leans over and gets ready to open the cage, "Well we shouldn't keep you in the cage much longer if you promise not to attack anyone? I nodded my head in agreement and he opened the door to the cage, then I stretched and walked around for a bit entertaining my natural predatory curiosity. "So are you interested in the classes? I have a podium you can sit from to watch the students and maybe learn a few things too? The next class I am teaching, is spell casting." I nodded my head very quickly, showing great interest. After a few sessions, I was having problems with casting the normal human way so I started just to think about what I wanted to do like fetch the water ladle from well water bucket, and all of a sudden, a hand appeared that I was able to control but spelt the water half way from the bucket. Later I tried again, and I was successful retrieving the water. I started visualizing with more powerful spells as Ralfo taught them to us and we all went outside to practice spell casting so we would not trash Ralfo's house. I was different from everyone us for I could cast spells innately. Ralfo was very pleased with everyone especially me for learning and adapting so quickly.

One day, when I was studying and practicing spell casting and other things I learned from Ralfo, the Ranger Talo Silvertip stopped by with a worried look on his face. "Ralfo, we are missing a little girl; brown hair, hazel eyes, 5 years old, and wearing a blue and white dress. Have you seen her? Is there anyone that you know that can help us or anything magical you know that can help locate her?" Ralfo shook his head and was about to say something, when I hopped up on the podium, "I can help you!" The ranger was startled by me and replies before thinking, "Ralfo, you have a talking turkey?!" I loudly tapped my enlarged sickle-shaped talons with anger, "I am no Turkey!" My feathers stood up on end and I hissed at the ranger, "Look, do you want my help before I change my mind for insulting me? Velociraptors are natural born Rangers and even slightly better because we can track any target by natural scent." The ranger accepted my proposal and we both went tracking for the young girl and found her safe but scared. Talo and I returned to Phaendar taking the young girl unscathed back to her parents. Then both Talo and I return to the mage's house and the ranger said, "Did you know you have a great tracker Ralfo?! Ralfo replies, He is very talented, brave, and would be a good fit in the war against General Azaersi! Why don't you take him to Phaendar and see if you can get him attached to a detail. There is nothing more I can teach him, he is healed up, and definitely does not deserve to be in a cage." The old mage secures the belt with two pouches filled with platinum and gold in each pouch around my waist. Then Ralfo looked at me sadly, "This doesn't have to be a teary eyed event! You are not going away for good! We will visit each other!" I hugged Ralfo carefully before Talo and I left for Phaendar.

Personality:

Velox is looking for a pack to join or form one up because that is his natural make up, whether it will be a pack of animal intelligent raptors and himself or mixed. He first attacks from range if alone without a pack. If the pack attacks and they need help, Velox will enter the fray flying raptor style or the best he can until he perfects it at higher levels. He will also viciously defend himself if attacked or as already stated, his "pack" is under attack. He will happily hunt for food for the party as long as someone cooks it. If no one cooks the food, he will just eat it raw since some urges are not easily broken. Being both a ranger and a velociraptor, he has great respect for nature and one of the reasons why he despises General Azaersi for Velox was one of the lucky ones that didn't become fully corrupted. The other reason is the way he is treating the people of Nirmathas. The behaviour reminds Velox of the bandits that almost killed him 10 years ago.

Goals:

1. To win the hearts of the Nirmathas so they can accept him for whom he is, and therefore Nirmathas society.
2. Join and/or form a pack to take on General Azaersi's army and other scum causing problems like the bandits that attack Velox in his youth.
3. Kill General Azaersi, his minions, and allies for corrupting the lands around Nirmathas and causing wanton destruction to entertain his greed.
4. A very small goal, check in on his velociraptor pack some time in the future. Maybe convince as many as he can to join him.

Fears:

1. Being corrupted by evil.
2. Being caged up again and losing control of oneself due to influences outside Velox's control.
3. General Azaersi corruption and conquests takes over the region and beyond.

If your character has any family/loved ones they are close to:

Does not know the state of his family, probably his parents are still alive and 4+/- of his siblings have been lost to the circle of life. And he does not know if they are now sentient like Velox or remain animals. Regardless, he will probably form a smaller pack with them in his larger pack of fellow Phaendarians.

How you managed to end up in, or passing through, Phaendar:

To learn more about people, see if there is a bank for his coin, and maybe form a pack with whomever he and Talo can find.

Quirk/Mannerism:

1. Tends to defecate when he has just eaten not too long ago and becomes really active, like fighting, jumping, and running. Birds do this to adjust their flight weight so it is not a bad habit but a body function. He does control it more so than the none sentient birds or bird-like creatures.
2. Taps his enlarged sickle-shaped talons when stressed or frustrated
3. Doesn't like to be called a turkey and will show his displeasure in some way.
4. Velox is hyper and seems to be ready to go at a moments notice.
