Back, but jet lagged. I hate travelling east.

Varunasi turns to Pratavh, and presents him with robes of midnight blue. There are tiny stars artfully sewn into the garment that seem to twinkle in the light. With a start you realize the stars match the constellations in the sky. "Darling this is rather something special, made from condensed moonlight and phase spider silk. Not only does it protect you from fire and acid and aid your void thaumaturgy, it lets you recall any one spell you've cast today and cast it again but stronger. And if you press this button here darling, you'll find the pull of the stars is so strong you can fly for a short while."

Pratavh:
The robes grant 10 acid and 10 fire resist and +1 CL and DC on any spell with the void descriptor. Once per day as a swift action you can recall any spell you cast that day. If you cast that spell within 1 round, it has +2 CL and DC. In addition once per day you can fly for 5 minutes.

Without appearing to move, she suddenly has a woolen orange robe in her hands and faster than you can believe, she's behind Mohktar whispering nasally into his ear, "Last but by no means least. The wool, well it's not really wool darling, it's something much stronger, something that is highly resistant to acid and fire. Among it's other properties it will let you put on a burst of incredible speed once a day, and the powers within will enhance the already formidable power behind your fists and make you even harder to strike. Use it wisely darling, destroy the cult."

Mohktar:
It functions as a Monk's robe with 10 acid and 10 fire resist. In addition once per day as a swift action, the wearer can take an additional move action to move on his turn.

"Indeed, of course you get something very striking too." purrs a voice in Shikyo's ear. He turns around to see her there suddenly in his personal space, brandishing a coat hanger as if it was a weapon. On the coat hanger are some night black silks, made from the darkest material Shikyomru has ever seen.

"Phase spider silk, darling. Very very difficult to obtain. Completely acid proof and it won't burn either. Yet there is more, see how it bends the light? In anything less than full sunlight, you will be hard to pin down. What is more twice a day you may step into the shadows and appear into any other shadow you may see. Use it wisely darling."

Shikyo:
The silks function as a mithril chain shirt +2, with resistance 10 to acid and fire. The silks act as a constant Blur effect in dim light. In addition as a standard action the wearer can Shadow Step twice per day.

Varunsai thrusts the garment at Lilly saying, "The leather is from a type of dragon-kin. Resistant to acid, fire, and highly resistant to damage. Yet it's breathable, darling you will find it doesn't impeded you in combat. See there are metal panels sown in here and here. These will deform from slow movement, such as needed when climbing but are highly resistant to sudden movement such as from a hammer blow."

Lilly:
The curious armor functions as: agile breastplate +1 with fire and acid resist 10 and dr 5. It has an enchantment that boosts your movement speed by 10' per round.

With a characteristically sudden movement, Varunsai bounces back to the clothes rail and plucks out another garment. This time it's a dark, highly tailored suit with extremely sharp crease lines. She advances on Alwyn, "This looks like it's made of cotton, see it feels like that. In reality it's armor. It has been treated to be highly resistant to fire and acid, and it has other surprises. The cuff links here, are special. If you press them like so, three times a day you will be able to tell lies so smoothly that nobody can tell. There is an inertial dampening system built in, that steadies your aim and reduced damage from ranged attacks."

Alwyn:
The armor functions as chain shirt +2 with fire and acid resist 10 and the glamor enchantment. It also adds a +1 luck bonus to attack and damage rolls with archery and increases the critical threat range to 19-20, as well as adding +4 to your AC vs ranged attacks.

More coming. Incidentally you're gonna need this stuff ;)

At Varunsai's shop.
For one reason or another, you all follow Mohktar and Alwyn to Varunsai's shop, it's late evening when you visit and the shop seems empty and unlit. Yet as you approach the door opens by itself and alight flickers on inside. You hear a familiar voice, "Ah darlings, darlings, darlings! We have been working through the night. Several nights actually."

Despite the dim (lamp?) light, you still can't see anyone and the shop looks empty. There is a pause, before the oddly nasally voice calls out again, "Come come come! Do not be shy, Varunsai has many fashionable things for you to try. Fashionable things that are resistant to acid among other properties..."

Tentatively you enter, wondering what exactly is going on. The door closes behind you with a boom. Suddenly you feel like you are falling, and with a shock you realize the entire room is sliding down. It comes to an abrupt halt and you look around. The shop seems to have descended into a large well lit open room that could almost be described as opulent if it wasn't so brutally minimalistic. There is an expansive marble floor, and over in one corner is a trip of sofas, a coffee table and a wheeled clothes rail with a variety of striking garments. Varunsai is sitting on the sofa looking serene. She beckons you over.

Varunsai suddenly jumps up and hops over to the clothes rail. She selects one hanger and pulls off a particularly striking suit and trousers made of canary yellow leather with a black strip down the sides and also the middle of the jacket. There are several badges sewn onto the jacket but their significance is lost on you. She advances on Lilly with a predatory gleam in her eye. It looks like this

Varunasi inspects the sketch again and harrumphs, "It looks almost feline Darling. But what type of feline would be over six feet tall yet walk like a man? There are several possibilities, none of them good. This creature, whatever it is, is cunning and brazen. The watch are not cut out for dealing with a foe like this, they are more used to dealing with theft, fraud, and mercantile squabbles than a highly organized cult of murderers. Still Darlings we know one thing, like many apex predators, our murderer is supremely arrogant. He or she, no this will be a he. Darlings our murderer thinks he is likely invincible."

Suddenly loud, she snaps, "Nothing is invincible! Not even the gods. Yes hubris will be his downfall." Gently she adds, "But Darlings if you are to be the agents of his demise, you must not share in his folly. Walk lightly, carry a big stick."

Been very busy again today.

Varunasi starts pacing again and replies nasily to Alywn, "A merchant. Middle aged. Balding. Male. That could be half of the merchants in town darling."

She then abruptly turns and paces towards Pratavh tape measure held out like a weapon, she takes several measurements and tells him, "An earring. Several seasons old, and of a design that has never been fashionable. Yes this came in a pair. I doubt I have that power, the cult are protected. Still everyone makes mistakes from time to time.."

Without seeming to move, she's over the other side of the room pulling open a large wooden drawer built into the wall, to reveal a strange blueish radiance. "Come come, darlings, we shall see if there is anything to be seen." As you crowd round, the little woman holds the ring and concentrates while dropping the earring into what turns out to be a luminescent bowl of water. The earring causes larger ripples than you'd expect and soon there are strange shifting images which slowly settle down.

"Darlings", she says with distaste, "The earring appears to have been thrown in a midden. I'm afraid you shall have to retrieve that. I think I know where that is, I shall mark it on your map. Please don't return directly if you find something..."

She looks at you and you can sense a dismissal when you see one. She blinks as Mohktar, and advances again with the tape measure, "We shall need something proof against incorporeal attacks for you. What is this darling? Oh a rubbing of a monster footprint. How nice. Whatever it is must be able to pass for human, or nearly so, or we would have heard of it."

Mohktar:
You get the impression she doesn't know what the footprint belongs to but might have suspicions.

Varunasi goes rigid with fury, "No no no that will never do! They grow too brazen. You must avenge them darling. Do you have a description of the killer or any leads? Of course you do, but perhaps you don't know what to make of them... Come tell me now, darling! Maybe Varunasi can help neh?"

She doesn't blink, "No Capes!" She starts pacing, "Madamme Vitusa, Madamme Vitusa, Madamme Vitusa. Ah yes, the incense lady."

She pauses misstep and tells you, "Something terrible happened to her, yes darling? She was always so forthright. I visited her store last year. The sort to wear her heart on her sleeve... Charming in a naieve way. I don't doubt she upset somebody."

Suddenly she's invading Shikyo's personal space with the tape measure, while commenting that, "Vitusa was a loyalist to the Thakur. Like many she believed in the happy fiction that Jalmary is a monarchy. In truth the Thakur is figurehead with little power. The true influence rests with the temple mystics, the monastic masters, and the nobles of the highest castes who make up the Maurya Rahm. Yet even as a figurehead, when the Thakur cried out against his cousin’s murder and the dreadful fate of Bahni Sarr, the Maurya-Rahm and those with influence agreed that attacking the Thakur was the same as attacking Jalmeray itself. The common people are scared for the Thakur, and killing him would greatly destabilize the nation despite the true administration of Jalmeray falling to the Maurya-Rahm. Of course that is what the cult want, so they may plot a palace coup and take over. Their rule would not nearly be so benevolent..."

To set the mood

She examines you all sniffily, and crosses her arms looking non-plussed. Speaking with an oddly nasily voice she upbraids you, "You took your time didn't you? I suppose you have lots of questions, don't you? Yes Darlings, but they must wait." She prowls around the party like a lioness examining your apparel with an jaded eye making tutting sounds. She rests here eyed on Lilly and gets out a tape measure and advances the Oracle saying, "Yes yes I suppose you go into battle with that on?" but before she can say anymore she spots Shikyo and narrows her eyes and advances eyeing his clothing saying, "No no no, that'll never do. How are you supposed to fight daemons like that? They can see invisible things you know... I'll design something for you. No it won't be ready soon, yes you will need it. No I know you can't pay for it." Suddenly her attention switches to Mohktar, and in a low voice she tells him, "You do not approve. Yet you shall need one of my garments, oh yes you will." Her gaze reaches Hirati and she says in a monotone, "Behave." She advances next on Alwyn and tells him, "While fashionable last season, your clothing is not acid proof. I shall provide that which is needed, but these things take time darling."

With a sudden movement you realize she's zipped 15 feet back faster than you can blink and eye and is reclining in a most uncomfortable yet fashionable chair sipping a cocktail of lurid colors, "You have questions. Ask them."
