Could I get a Skizza special (Blessing of Alkenstar), please?

A maelstrom of ice freezes the scorpion in place, giving Lem all the chance he needs to smash the thing to bits.

The strange world of Trazavai's captive souls continues to shift and change, as if trying to throw Varril and his colleagues off a trail. Twisting passages snaking out of the former tavern suck Varril down into a labyrinth, past a multitude of closed doors. One such door blows open as Varril passes it, and suddenly there it is: the phylactery!

Varril grabs a hold of the open doorway, wrenching himself into the room with the phylactery. His muscles groaning in pain, the inquisitor stretches to his limits to touch the phylactery. In a flash, it, and the twisting passage disappears, replaced by a bone-filled chamber.

The inquisitor lashes out with a sphere of pink positive energy as Skizza enervates as approaching frog-faced demonic foe. As the monsters burn away under the assailment, Varril picks up a scroll of evocative icy power.

"Stay true, my friends!" he calls out, his voice carried curiously on the currents.

Varril moves instantaneously from the threatening arena to the comfortable manor house by only thinking about the words that the old woman by the fireplace had said. Returning to the hearth, the inquisitor finds the scene vacant, but a hissing cast-iron lidded pot over the fire draws his attention.

It's a dream, he thinks to himself, and as if to prove it, Varril reaches out to the piping hot pot and places both hands on it.

The metal feels cool, though the hissing continues, and Varril no longer stands in front of the hearth, having moved somehow to a reading room filled with shredded pages. Looking at his hands, the inquisitor sees an explosive device with a long fuse burning in his grip.

Well, if this isn't a metaphor for something, then I'm a Hellknight.

Discard Fortune-Teller to explore again: Warlord Devil.

Suddenly, a huge devil appears within the reading room, horns dripping with blood, red eyes aglow. It bellows in Infernal, claiming Varril's soul as its own.

The hissing bomb in Varril's hands transforms immediately into his sword of legend, gifted to him by Shelyn himself (or so he believes). The inqusitor expertly swings the sword down onto the horned devil's brow, splitting it in twain. The devil immediately disappears in a flash of yellow light.

The hour is Erastil's Eye. At SOT, choose to use Shapechange to make my hand size 10. Then, bury Moise to draw a card - Symbol of Fortune. Any local character may recharge a card (i.e. Skizza) and then, if they do, they may draw a card. Varril will then move to the Repository.

With the closure of the crypt, Varril is struck with a sense of what he must do: the lich must be destroyed. The very thought of its perversion continuing to exist rankled the inquisitor's skin. Varril's mind swelled at the thought of his destiny - he was the arm of Shelyn, the weapon of his beloved deity's hand. He would do this in her name!

Without a word, Varril departs the company of his ratfolk friend and marches to the repository, pulling open the door where the lich was spotted. He enters after a brief prayer to Shelyn for good fortune.

"There's nothing to take here, Ildervok! My soul has already been claimed! And no, you can't have Varian's either."

Varril swings the divinely-imbued scythe blade across his body with astonishing speed. As the weapon cleaves into undying fiend flesh, a searing explosion of pink light mushrooms out from the pair. When it fades, Ildervok falls in twain. Varril stifles a faint giggle once more.

"I'll be right back," the inquisitor uncharacteristically says, then rushes off, returning with one of their stalwart hirelings - Moise.

"Let's carry forth!" Varril almost giggles again, but coughs instead to mask it.

Varril, incensed at the rollicking banshee, makes for the caves in a means to head the flying perversion head-to-head. As the inquisitor arrives, he spies restless skeletons shambling in front of the cave entrance.

"Your end is nigh!" Varril shouts, the pink tinge of Shelyn limning his form.

Frightened: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2 Discard Fortune-teller and Blessing of the Midnight Lord as damage. Recharge Blessing of the Eternal Rose for BYA effect of Ancient Skeleton. Use Ashbringer. I'm going to need some help - Skizza, would you bless me with a Blessing of Alkenstar?

Varril lays into the skeletons with the ash-encrusted blade recovered within the crypt. With the assassin Kayltanya at his side, the inquisitor obliterates the bony creatures swiftly, and then the keening begins.

Frightened: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 DAMNIT. Discard Ashbringer as damage. Recharge Phoenix Tail to use Divine instead of Melee. I'm going to need Skizza's other Blessing of Alkenstar.

Combat (29) Check: 1d8 + 4 + 3 + 4 + 1d12 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 3 + 4 + (8) = 26 Those are excellent rolls! I'm going to play it safe and ask Skizza to bury Jayna Lemore to add 1d6 to this check.

Jayna boost: 1d6 ⇒ 4 SUCCESS! Caves are closed! Move Kayltanya to the Crypt and then move back to Base and immediately explore again, drawing Ketrik. Display him, then Varril will heal a card and end my turn.

Varril's allies turn up again, this time in the form of the paladin Jayna Lemore. The might of Shelyn and Iomedae together proves too much for Ulitha, and the banshee flees once more, though the group seems shaken to the core.

"We will overcome! That damned THING has little room to run. Our might is just; our will indomitable!"

The hour is The Bear.

The banshee's shrill keen pierces even Varril's stalwart defences against fear. That is, until the indomitable ratfolk gunslinger first skitters away then resurfaces with a foolproof plan for attacking and ending the wailing undead's haunt.

Nodding in comprehension, Varril heads off on his mission as directed by Skizza, intent upon uniting with the Red Mantis leader Kayltanya.

What strange bed-fellows.

Move to Dungeons. Place Object Reading in recovery and examine top 3 cards: #1 - Infernal Warhounds (Monster 6); #2 - Ancient Skeleton; #3 - Lyrune-quah Truthspeaker (Ally 4). Re-order as #3, #2, #1 and take free exploration.

Sure enough, as described by Skizza (and confirmed by the scrying abilities of the ever-useful wizard), a Kellid plains-walker sits in one of the cells of the dungeon, her irises whited out with cataracts and age. What she is doing in these prisons...

"Stop staring at me and look smart!" The old lady's voice, sharp as a whip crack, pulls Varril out of his reverie.

Divine (12) Check: 1d8 + 4 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 3 + 4 = 17 Auto-SUCCESS! Discard Blessing of Achaekek to explore again.

Varril struggles with the rusted door and lock mechanism. Intoning a prayer to Shelyn, the inquisitor's hands begin to glow with pink warmth, infusing the corroded metal of the cell, but serving no purpose. Varril considers things for a moment - then Kayltanya adds her hands to the door and begins pulling! With the warping sound of metal, the door begins to loosen.

With a hiss and the swing of a scimitar, an animate skeleton lunges out of the darkness of the dungeons, intent upon eviscerating the Shelynite!

Varril's prayers emerge from behind the banshee's wails. The undead creature flees the room as the inquisitor's divine power penetrates its form. As it goes, Varril rips the cell door open.

"To arms, ALLY!" There is little question to his tone.

Kayltanya goes to the Caves.

He then races after the banshee.

Move to the Base. Draw Pathfinder Bodyguard and keep the rest in place. Display it and clear Frightened.

At the start of the turn, place Confidence Boost in recovery and examine top 3 cards of my deck, drawing Blessing of the Midnight Lord and shuffling the other two back. Move to Ruin and reveal Fortune-teller; choose 'bane' and examine top card - Roc. Free encounter!

Varril prays aloud, beating his sword across the flat of his shoulders in time to his exhortations. Without realising his actions, the inquisitor finds himself apart from his allies, the ruins of a watchtower beckoning to his path. Suddenly, a monstrous great bird springs from the ramparts of the tower, its giant wingspan blotting the sun as its sharpened talons stretch for flesh to rake and crush!

Recharge Fortune-teller to use Divine instead of Melee here. This check is blessed as no boons will be played as per the hour power.

Hero Point Reroll (19): 2d8 + 4 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (1, 8) + 4 + 3 + 4 = 20 SUCCESS, but Harrow of Hammers triggers. Discard Blessing of Shelyn. Use Varril power to recharge Blessing of Midnight Lord (after defeating a bane on my turn) to freely explore again: Scarlet Walker.

Varril conjures a sphere of pink-tinged divine energy around his person as the massive bird dips to crush him in its talons. The divine protection singes the bird, driving it back into the air. In divine retribution, Varril sends a gout of divine flame at the bird, incinerating it as it banks to attack again.

Unexpectedly, a rumbling deep beneath the watchtower collapses the structure entirely as a spindly-legged behemoth of a spider pulls itself from the ground, lurching on uneven limbs towards the divine warrior!

Recharge Shield of Faith to use Divine instead of Fortitude for this BYA check. This check is blessed as no boons will be played as per the hour power.

Divine (12) BYA Check: 2d8 + 4 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (5, 5) + 4 + 3 + 4 = 21 SUCCESS! I will use the Divine option for the next check. As no boons will be played, it is blessed.

Divine (14) Check: 2d8 + 4 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (8, 6) + 4 + 3 + 4 = 25 SUCCESS! No Harrows nonsense.

Varril dives out of the way as the gargantuan arachnid overruns him, his divine bubble of energy deflecting much of the force of the trampling. Out of sheer desperation, Varril dissociates his force bubble and the divine energies explode in a massive eruption, carrying pieces of the spider walker with it in multiple directions.

When Varril dares to open his eyes again, nothing remains save for a massive furry spider leg laying on the ground near his prone form. Varril picks himself up and begins looking for his friends.

No cards left in hand; I'm not going to try anything further. Reset hand and end turn.
