Vara bustles in, her game face on. "Friends, we must be prepared for the performance of a lifetime. That was serious business last night. We are already committed now so let's make it worth our while."

I'm here still, sorry. October is my busiest month and I just haven't had a chance to get updated. All set now though.
"Good thinking, gnome. It should not be any location we have frequented before. Anyone know a good safe place?"
Vara is surprised that the others seem to be upset about Gleek's fate. Upon further reflection, she is even more surprised that she shares the sentiment. "To Gleek," she repeats quietly. "So what now? Did that chase by the Hellknights end our little mission already? Or what do we do next?"
"Yes, I am starved anyhow." Vara marches in and settles into a comfortable chair near the fire.
"They are approaching from the west! Quickly, let's move eastward and we can find your tavern once we are clear."
Vara paces for a moment, thinking. "Can the goblin really be trusted?"
"Well, I guess we should keep following him. Maybe there's a secret passage off the ladder or something."
"Very well. Bring the little rat along. But let's get moving again."
"So what do we do with him now? I don't have a lot of experience with holding captives."
Vara spits on her shuriken and slings it at one of the goblins cowering behind a chair.
"Getting out of the main sewer line is a good idea too. They can't be too far behind us."
Vara listens in as well. "What is it? Let's break it down already! I'm sure they are still right behind us!"
Vara shrugs. "Not my forte either. Let's just keep moving."
Vara agrees with Sia. "They are too close on our tail to do any exploring right now unfortunately."
"What can be gained by stopping? We need to be sure we have escaped the Hellknights before anything like that."
"Oh, thank you ever so much Sia!" cries Vara as she is magically cleaned up. She collects her potions and thanks Janiven for them. Something about being in this filthy sewer has made Vara much more grateful than she is used to. Falling into line behind her bestie Sia, she casts light on her kukri then tucks it back into her dress. "I will only use it when necessary in case there are creatures down here watching for our lights."
Vara collects her skirts and slides down after Sia.
Vara slithers her way through the trap door as the banging commences. "You certainly know how to make a strong sales pitch, Janiven," she mutters.
"Yes I can hear them outside. Well it didn't take long for this plan to go south. Who is this Arael and why would they capture him? We need a story for the Hellknights."
Vara nods saying, "I am not too interested in facing the Thrune's wrath but of course something must be done. Very well. We must be vigilantly cautious as we proceed."
Vara considers Janiven's impassioned plea. "What you say is true, of course. The rule of law is too strict in Westcrown; everyone knows that. And you seem to be more passionate than most boring regular people, which is commendable. But I wonder- what exactly do you want me to do? You speak in vagueness about serious matters which require exact precision. Give me information and then I will be able to judge your offer more fairly."
Vara watches the parade of newcomers, finally resigned to her fate as a member of this impromptu team. I have dealt with worse situations in the past. She decides to make the best of it. Her expression softens, now smiling at each as they introduce themselves. Behind her suddenly-friendly demeanor, she coldly evaluates them all, trying to determine why each was invited to join.
Vara's expression softens as she listens to Malqazar's tale. "I must admit- my own upbringing was rather similar. Only much further away from here." She holds out her hand to Malqazar, palm down. "I am Vara, formerly a poor Vudrani girl who has made it all the way to the bright lights of the Westcrown stage." She smiles and continues, "While I shall have to judge your magnificence for myself, I am pleased to meet you and I respect your candor." When Lettu joins them, she throws up her hands. "Why not! Tell us about yourself, tiefling."
"Hello, darling," Vara greets Sia with an air-kiss as she takes a seat at the small table. "Honestly, I'm not sure if I will accept this 'role' or not, as of yet. I am certainly no admirer of the Thrune but I also appreciate remaining alive. I shall need to hear the entire pitch before I make up my mind." When Malqazar abruptly joins them, Vara gives him a long, skeptical look up and down. "And what praytell makes you so Magnificent?" she asks, pointedly ignoring his question.
Vara smiles, "Of course, my dear." She takes her leave as soon as a meeting place has been determined. She spends the evening trying to figure out a way to read the letter early, but finds little success.
Vara glances at the paper and then the others, considering her options. She won't suggest meeting to read the letters but she might agree depending on who asks.
Vara sighs dramatically. "Fine. Tomorrow then."
Vara is nonplussed. "What are you saying, this was all a ruse? Because I earned a starring role with that performance."
Vara immediately takes the stage and passionately enacts the assigned monologue.
Ever the professional, she takes in her surroundings while she performs.
Vara's eyes look eerily like gold pieces momentarily. "Yes, I suppose for that rate I can stick around for a bit."
The bronze Vudrani initially scowls at the pretty Chelaxian woman who sidles up next to her. But when the hellknights appear, Vara's confidence dissapears and she is secretly glad to have someone to help watch her back. A smile cracks her visage. "Very well. I am Vara. If you know somewhere safe, let's hurry. There will always be other auditions!" She grasps Sia's hand and nods for her to lead the way. She could be useful to have around. Plus, I'm still prettier.
The Vudrani woman turns some heads as she enters the Teatro for the auditions. She scowls, annoyed that she must try out with all these amateurs. Her flowing robes embroidered in elaborate patterns swirl around her as she pushes her way to the front. "Who is in charge here? I need to speak to someone in charge."
Checking in. Looks like a great group! :D Vara appears generally human as well, if somewhat exotic. |
