About Vanessa Asergale

Vanessa Asergale had always grown up with the occult; her life was conceived with it in mind. Born as an eventual vessel for an infernal devil, Vanessa never knew the sinister secret to her bloodline was anything out of the ordinary. As fate would have it, before the plot to sacrifice her soul would come to fruition, a group of holy hunters swept in and eradicated everyone she knew and (unfortunately) loved. Taking pity on the young girl, the leader of the order took her in as a personal ward, knowing full well that at some point the devil would come to collect.

Fortunately it wasn’t to come for many years, and in that time Vanessa trained body and mind, fueled by a new family and a personal light. Eventually when the devil entered her, her training, the blessings of the order and her own sense of strength was great enough that the creature found itself to be trapped inside her. Knowing the only chance for escape was to corrupt the host, the devil decided to offer its strength and power and with that an unlikely partnership was born; the girl driven by a need to do good, and the devil driven by a need to exhaust that good. They would be caught in a tangled web with one another until one relented.

With her newfound power and limited control over it, Vanessa received the blessing of the order and set off into the world looking for evil; hoping to crush it before other children fall victim to dark temptations of their elders. Hearing a call for adventurers she went north, with Galkaleth’s unholy aura and sweet whispers in tow. She vowed to herself that she would not fall physically or mentally until she found a way to excise the spirit permanently, or turn it to her side... It was dangerous but to change the world, one needed strong allies, even if you don't always see eye to eye.

Evil spirit: A fiend keeper serves as the vessel for a powerful evil spirit that fights and bargains for dominance. The legends a fiend keeper channels are all aspects of this evil presence. Willingly performing an evil act automatically grants the evil spirit 1 point of influence over him. Protection from evil temporarily suppresses all the spirit’s benefits while the fiend keeper is under the spell’s effects. When the spirit gains at least 3 points of influence over the fiend keeper, in addition to the penalties associated with each legend, he gains an evil aura as per a cleric of his level and treats his alignment as evil for the purposes of resisting or being vulnerable to spells and abilities (such as unholy blight or a paladin’s smite evil class ability).

Spirit bonus +1: When a medium channels a spirit, he gains a bonus on certain checks and to certain statistics, depending on the spirit. A 1st-level medium’s spirit bonus is +1; it increases by 1 at 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter.

Spirit power (lesser): Grants the lesser spirit power of the channeled spirit.

Spirit surge 1d6: After failing a d20 roll that was modified by his spirit bonus, a medium can allow his spirit to gain 1 additional point of influence over him in order to add 1d6 to the check’s result without taking an action. This can cause the check to succeed instead of fail. The medium must be conscious and aware to use this ability, and he can use this ability at most once per round. At 10th level, the medium’s spirit surge die increases to 1d8, and at 20th level it increases to 1d10.
