The elf attempts to puzzle out the writing. "You are right, Valgar, it does indeed sound dire. This edifice seems to be a prison for this Akruel, confined by the priests of several religions. Not very comforting. Especially if it has been forgotten for so long."
"Of course! Let's have a look." Valen says with enthusiasm.
"Hello! What's this?" Valen says with interest and goes to inspect the writing.
"I am Valen," the elf says simply, "And my people are known for the woodscraft."
"Erm... yes." Valen says in a puzzled manner. He smiles.
"Why yes," Valen replies, "I think we can track down a fox."
Valen looks at the man in astonishment, and frowns. "Well, it will gain us some friends, I suppose." he says to Atticus out of earshot of the innkeeper.
"Do you think he will take this?" Valen asks Atticus quietly, showing him a gold piece.
"Offended? Why would I be? I'm regretful that this happened, but I can understand any hostility this man may have. Perhaps I shall find some answers at this 'inn'."
Valen chuckles, "It's not an orc lair, Talisek, I think we'll be alright without whistles or bird calls. You'll know where to find me, and I don't think I need worry that you disturb a dragon in the course of your enquiries." he adds jovially.
Valen takes the young woman's face in his hands and says soothingly, "No, Narcisse, they didn't lie." He then holds her hand in his, "I cannot say what these elves did or did not do. Maybe they had nothing to do with her disappearance. I want to help in some manner, but I fear that my presence might inflame matters." Turning to the rest of the group, he asks, "Friends, do you think we could perhaps discover what happened here, to the child, I mean?"
Valen nods and looks troubled. "You are wise man, sir." he says, "I don't know if this will aid you at all but please accept this." He takes out 2 gold pieces with the air of someone who doesn't quite know what to do with them, and offers them to Jeb.
Valen looks pained, "I'm very sorry to hear that, and I thank you for your advice. I have no wish to upset anyone."
"Wonderful! Do you perchance recall the name of this elf?"
"That would be delightful" says a slight figure, who one might think was a young teen were it not for the leaf-shaped ears and almond eyes.
"I have practiced it for the last 100 years or so..."
*Dances an elfin quadrille"

I can dig some sort of fey language as well - should I put down 'faerie' or are we going to be more specific e.g. Pixie, Dryad, Brownie etc etc?
I meant Cha bonus earlier, not Wis. Doh. Anyway, I already gain a load of languages from being an elf, but I'll add kobold to my languages, and save the other 4 slots. I'll take charm person. I rolled 4. :D

More questions, sorry! Spells - how many do I start off with in my spellbook? I am assuming I start with 1 (0 for being an elf and 1 for my Intelligence) This being the case... am I allowed to case a spell at 1st level or must I wait for 2nd level? I am happy either way, as it seems open to interpretation and is up to you. HP: Are we using random hit points at 1st level or maximum?

Here's my representative of the otherworldly buttkickers aka elves. A few questions: Alignment: Are we using it? If so, is it classic Law/Neutral/Chaos, or Good/Neutral/Evil or something else? Daft question, but how tall are your elves? :D Encumbrance: If you are interested in cutting down on book-keeping, there is an excellent system in Jim Raggi's Lamentations of the Flame Princess game. The rule book is a free pdf from his site. Regarding Prime Requisites: I am going to use the chart and info on the variant elf from White Box. Would it be reasonable to extrapolate the Core Rules Prime Req XP Bonus for having Str or Int higher than 15? If so, would I just gain 5%, or 10% as they are both over 15? 5 bonus Languages: Can I choose some now, and save the other slots for later on? Sorry, that's a lot of questions but the open nature of the rules lend themselves to such! |
