Many are the wretched hives of scum and villainy all around the Galaxy, but few can even hold a candle to Nar Shaddaa, the Smuggler's Moon. The whole planet is a slum, dense with the destitute, the refugees and the Exchange thugs. Vadi Sarnassi was born here, child of the street, growing up between the ventilation tunnels and the waste disposal furnaces, begging and stealing to survive.
Many a Twi'lek find a career as a dancer as a way to earn enough credits to feed themselves, but Vadi found disgust in that. Instead, she turned to gambling, stalking the pazaak tables, using guile and charm both to relieve the unwary players of their cash. But luck turns as the tide, so she found herself into debt, and from debt to indentured servitude, at the service of a local crime lord, Shaak Ranvad. It was by a stroke of luck that, rather than a prostitute, Shaak was looking for a spokeperson, an envoy. And Vadi discovered an attitude even beyond that of any Twi'lek towards twisting minds and charming targets. Cunning words and an intense look could persuade even the most stubborn and reluctant thug, whispered suggestions taking hold. Taking food and lodging out of her meager pay, it would take a lifetime to earn her way out of indentured servitude, but in the meantime life wasn't so bad, and she had many chances to embezzle a few credits here and there.
Things changed when Shaak was murdered at the hands of a ruthless competitor, a vile Quarren named Horeadash. Unlike Ranvad, Horeadash had no need for an envoy, especially one faithful to his predecessor. But fortunately for Vadi, he was also a lecher. As he tried to take advantage of her, something clicked in the Twi'lek mind, and her voice carried a command, overwhelming the crime lord's mind. After he had released her from her restraints, she ran away, blending in Nar Shaddaa's mazelike streets, leaving only his bloodied corpse and stunned Gamorrean guards in her wake...
