Utho spent the whole night prayi ng and so was late to come down. "Sorry. Did Imiss anything?" he asks, rubbing his eyes.
Utho, suddenly awake, smiles at his returned companions. "Iomedae helps those who help themselves." He says before turing and heaing to his room. -Posted with Wayfinder
Utho shares his new found information with Edwyn and Ezra.
"A good thought!" Utho smiles briefly and begins rummaging for notes.
"Edwyn, perhaps you should read the Second Act. It may help you in this matter." He will also act Edwyn if the high priests behaviour seems strange to him.
After his prayer Utho goes downstairs, and reads to his companions (pointedly looking to Cassiel and Ezebelle. [b"We must do what is necessary to eliminate evil."[/b] With that, he goes out for a couple hours watch before turning in for sleep.
Edwyn, I thought that I was still at the temple while you guys were stuidying.... Ezebelle, I was hoping you would say that.
"That is grave news." Utho says, clearly not catching the pun. [b["As for the Pharasman, I could not detect any deception, but I can't help but feel he is hiding something. It seems strange that a follower of the Lady of Graves be so passive, even with a lack of evidence. I must pray on this."[/b] With that Utho returns to his quarters. In his room, he prays. "Oh, Inheritor of Aroden, my lady Iomedae, hear my supplication. I seek wisdom in these dark times. I pray that you would show me some sign of the direction we would take to stop the Whispering Way if they are indeed involved..." he goes on about asking for help. He asks for proof of undead and the necromancer's cult. When finished, he takes out his copy of The Acts of Iomedae and begins reciting the text as he awaits an answer.
"As you wish." holding his tongue.
Utho will take his leave and return to his companions, telling them of the conversation.
Utho is still astonished at this man's unwillingness to help. In response to the high priest's last question, he will tell him what they have learned and the evidence they have found that points to the cult. "To be honest, I have not been guided by the Inheritor in this matter. I most ashamedly admit that I have not found the time to ask her yet."
Utho seems somewhat confused. "Your Grace, it seems odd to me that you would bar us from using tools meant to destroy the worst of all abominations: the undead. We are trying to stop the Whispering Way from gaining a foothold in this area, and you would stop us by denying the tools that we need? Why? Is not undead and the manipulation of the undead the very worst of sins in the eyes of the Lady of Graves?"
That's basically the same as all of us sitting at a table and you rolling behind a GM screen... works for me!
Utho stands politely and waits for the priest to finish his prayer. if it seems to be taking too long, he will subtly clear his throat. Once he has the priest's attention, he will regale him with the information found in Professor Lorrimor's book and ask about the store of ghost fighting weaponry, and permission to you use it. "Also, I wonder if you might have any information on the Whispering Way? They seem to be stirring up trouble around here and my companions and I are failry interested in trying to stop them. I thought that if anyone around here, other than a member of the cult, would know anything about these necromancers, it would be a devoted Pharasman such as yourself."
@ the Temple. Utho returns the smile to the acolyte. "Sir, I am here to speak with whoever is in charge of this temple. I am investigating some strange things that I not only think he will be interested in, but that I believe he can help me with."
Utho will make sure he is in his more human form before entering town. He stops before the ominous temple. The Pharasmans always make their buildings look so beautiful. he thinks to himself sarcastically. He walks up to the large doors. If there is no attendant, he walks in.
Utho will head straigh to the Pharasmans after their meeting with the sherrif.
"The church of Pharasma may also be able to shed some light on the subject."
"Sheriff," Utho inclines his head slightly. "I am glad you have arrived. We are investigating some of the strange goings on around here. I hope we are not intruding." Utho says to the man. When the sheriff reveals himself to the rest of the party, Utho steps out from behind the tree, staying behind the sheriff.
Utho remains as still as possible behind th tree, to avoid his armor clanging and giving away his position.
Utho stands behind a tree, as close as he can to the shack.
Knowing that he lacks a certain... finesse, when it comes to the art of stealth, Utho allows himself to fall back about 20 feet from the rest of the party.
"During my watch, I saw no one traveling this road. I doubt they came before my post, as that was during the day, but it is possible that they came after I retired."
Utho approaches the corpse to further examine it.
"I am Utho, paladin of Iomedae. Should my companions agree, I offer our services in your investigation, Deputy."
Utho growls at the men. He doesn't even make an attempt to hide his body language, he is ready for a fight if it comes to it.
"Just long enough to read this. Then I will be taking a brief watch at the church before turning in." Utho finishes the journal, does a brief patrol/watch, and then sleeps through the night.
Utho dons his armor and gear, planning to be on guard duty for the day. As he does so, he runs into a panicked Ezebelle. After she finishes talking, he immediately shifts into his not-quite werewolf form and heads for the door. "Let us investigate." As they walk, he pulls out the journal. "You mentioned a stash of ghost-fighting stuff last night. "It says here that the church of Pharasma may not even be aware that the stash is there. Perhaps we should tell them of its location, and they may be willing to part with some of its contents in order to aid us in our search. The Pharasmans have a deep hatred for necromancy and the undead, and I am sure that if we offer our aid, they will return the favor."
[ooc]Going to assume now that Utho has had a chance to read the journal. "It says here that the church of Pharasma may not even be aware that the stash is there. "What are you hiding, and why? Are we not meant to work together here?"
Unable to hear the conversation in the other room, and unimpressed at the amount of secrets going around, Utho walks in to join the conversation. "Don't you think you should include the rest of us in any plans you are making? What is in that journal, anyway?" his face is annoyed.
"Very well, the church it is. Where will my quarters be tha tI may go begin my vigil at the church and return when I am ready for rest?"
Utho doesn't seem bothered by the situation. "Well... It is my job to protect people... And 100 platinum is a healthy sum... Could get a new sword. "Milady Lorrimor," Utho bows. "While I understand that you do not need a babysitter, I will protect you and your home for the next month with my life. Is there somewhere that I might go that would give me a vantage point of the whole property?"
Utho grunts in response to Cassiel's question as he warms himself by the fire. When Ezebelle asks her question, he doesn't turn to her, but continues staring into the flames as he responds. His head jerks in Cassiel's direction. "He knows. Cassiel and Petros were fighting some undead. I hunt undead, and ran upon them. I stepped in and used my... abilities to help out." he pauses for a moment . "Petros found my condition interesting. He wrote to me off and one with questions. That was it. I only met him the once."
Once inside and comfortable, Utho returns to his human form. He approaches Kendra. "Why would I be in his will? I barely knew him? I do not understand this."
Utho nods in acknowledgement when Cassiel manages after the fight. "I regret to say that that day was my only meet with the professor. After that, we wrote back and forth just a bit. He was interested in my... condition." Utho still stands in his pseudo-lycanthropic form. While this makes him uncomfortable around so many people (and possibly smelling like a wet dog, at the moment), he feels that there may be another attempt to crash the funeral.
Just an FYI, my posting is going to be a little sparse tomorrow through Monday. I can definitely do one a day, but tomorrow I have to go work on my truck to sell it on Monday, then I have a last minute trip out of town for a written and physical agility test on Saturday morning... 150 miles away... so we are leaving when I am done with the truck. Then I will have to drive home Saturday afternoon, so I can get ready for my WotR campaign I am running locally on Monday. Sunday I have church, then I need to finish anything left with the truck, then go to a local RoW campaign I am in. Monday I have a meeting at work, then I gotta drive 60 miles and back to sell my truck, then run said WotR campaign... Then I am free all day Tuesday, and then I have a local PFS game to go to on Tuesday evening. And I have a 6 week old baby!!!
Utho, unconvinced that the threat is over, remains in his bestial form. "Utho, paladin of Iomedae at your service." he growls briefly, but his eyes are following the back of the ringleader of the thugs that stopped their processsion.
Seeing that diplomacy has failed, Utho does his shift as mentioned before. [b]"I warned you."[b] He calls out to the ringleader of this group of miscreants, his voice deeper, gravelly; more growl than anything. He runs at the Townie still standing.
Ah, somehow missed that this existed. Usually campaigns have the little tabs up at the top. Anyways, Cassiel, the way I picture it is, you were being attacked. Professor shows up, things keep going south. Utho shows up, at some point he shifts into his lycanthrope-esque form, and then at some point after that, fight is over. Professor thanks him profusely, and offers help later. Maybe Utho and professor had correspondence in between, but that would probably be the only time Utho and Cassiel met
"Stand down, now. This is a fight you cannot win."
Seeing that his threat is falling on deaf ears, Utho initiates a change. His hair begins to grow, his face elongates, his teeth sharpen. He groans as he morphs into his bestial form. Once it is finished, he looks again to the ringleader. "I warned you."
"Good sir, why do you stop this procession? In case you didn't notice, we are having a funeral. Please, step aside. Perhaps you and I could speak about this once we have set down this casket?" Utho says to the man as he motions to his fellow pallbearers to lower the load to the ground.
Utho continues in silence. The crunching leaves from his feet, and the clanging of metal from his movements the only noise from the paladin's position on the coffin. I think I recognize the one called Cassiel. Wasn't he there two when I came upon the professor? Perhaps he knew the professor better than I, for I only met him the once in passing. It is good to know that, at least for now, this man doesn't seem bothered by my true nature.
The clanking of armour and weapons heralsd the arrival of yet another warrior. A man with dark grey hair, and yet an attractive youthful face approaches. His scale mail is partially obscured by the Iomedaen red tabard he wears over it. Slung over his back are a quiver of arrows and a bow, and at his side is the favored weapon of his deity; a longsword with the Inheritor's symbol on the hilt. On his arm is still strapped a small buckler. A multi-colored kapenia hangs at his neck, and swooshes lightly in the breeze. The man sends only a glance in the direction of the gathering crowd, nodding in their general direction. He approaches the attractive woman, and stands before her. "I am Utho of Caliphas, paladin in service to the Inheritor. I offer my condolences. Here is my invitiation."
