About Una Sol, Left Hand of Apsu

The Tale of Quintus and Una Sol is a sadly common story in this age. Slavery, after all, is a more common problem than anyone cares to admit.

Quintus and Una were likely born in the capital of Egorian and their parents were probably upwardly mobile merchants or minor nobles. This was known to be true because their childhood garments are of a higher quality than the average Tiefling slave. It is assumed some noblewoman did not want the social shame that comes with birthing “lesser beings” and she “disposed” of them.

They were sold into slavery after a mere twenty days of life. They didn’t even have names. The words “Quintus” and “Una” are Chelish slaver terms used to denote where child slaves stood in line on the auction block. Quintus was the fifth male tiefling sold into slavery that day, Una was the first female. The infant pair was sold and loaded on to a slave ship, The Solar Wind (the source of the twins’ last name), and they were shipped off to the Chelish Colonies.

And that would be the end of the story...if not for the fated intervention of Vasilia, Priestess of Apsu. She had warned the Chelish slavers not to bring their vileness near her islands but the Crew of the Solar Wind mocked her. “She can’t stop us, we’re under the protection of the Chelish Navy,” They said as they steered past her island home.

Vasilia, an ancient Silver Dragon, disagreed.

She crushed the ship, killed it’s crew, and set the poor slaves free and allowed them to go back to their homes. But when she came upon Quintus and Una, she was faced with a dilemma. They had no home and as Tieflings they would face persecution no matter where they went. Who would raise them?

So Vasilia took the twins and a few of the other children back to her island and raised them as her own children. When they were grown, she sent them out into the world with a bag of gold from her horde (a common coming of age gift for a dragon) and told them to seek their destiny. While the other children settled into lives as farmers and shopkeepers, the Twins had spent too long at Vasilia’s mighty feet to do nothing with their second chance at life. They entered into the service of Apsu the dragon god and sought to make the world a better, more just place. Eventually they found their way to the Pathfinder Society...
