We are planning some docs to help with that transition, but since we expect that the bulk of the audience for it won't actually exist until more people have gone through the five levels in the box, it's queued up behind other stuff that's targeted toward people who are looking for more to do with the rules *in* the box.

Until we have that, if you want to start adding new rules from the Core Rulebook, my personal advice would be prioritize chapters about subjects that your players are particularly enthusiastic about.

Thanks for the reply. This may be a stupid question, but how long does it take to reach level 5?

I don't really need another rules set but if they had some articles about how to transition to the core rules that would be very helpful.

I picked up the core rulebook today and it is pretty hefty.Where exactly should I start in transitioning our game from the beginners box to the core book? The beginners box says there is enough content until 5th level but I'd like to start slowly adding things to the game because otherwise I'm sure I'll get overwhelmed by all the new rules.

Should I read the core book cover to cover or just specific sections as the game goes on?

Thanks!

Ulairi - welcome to the PATHFINDER RPG. I remember when I first started using a battlemat, and I remember that I didn't count well at first. But after a few games, the diagonals become very easy, and you get to see how it makes sense when you're playing with spells, feats, or weapons that only go so far.

In fact when I got the hang of it--I found it to be much more simple than I first thought. I just picked up the Beginner's Box too, and plan to teach new players the game. Hope you're enjoying it.

Pax

Thanks! I'm understanding the rules but sometimes the rules as text are easier to understand than the illustrated examples.

I actually don't find the rule to be complex, I just want to understand it. There are a couple illustrated examples that confused me more than just a straight reading of the rules.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I've never played a roleplaying game until Saturday with the Pathfinder beginners box. Before that, I had the stereotype that roleplaying games had grown men sitting around talking in funny voices to each other. My group got into the game after the owner of our gaming shop recommend it to us when we couldn't find a new board game to play. I did buy some D&D novels in middle and high school but I never actually played the games.

I'm reading through the beginners box and I have a question about moving diagonal squares. On a player's first move, if he moves diagonal it counts as 1 square but if it is his second move, it counts as 10. Can a player move straight up and then diagonal and have it count as only one square or does the diagonal move have to be his first move for it to count as one square? Also, when moving diagonally every other move is 2 squares, so it goes 1 square, 2 squares, 1 square, etc. Am I understanding the movement correctly?

Thanks!

Hi,

I was at my local board game store tonight looking for a new game and the owner recommended Pathfinder to me because my friends and I really like playing board games like War of the Ring, Titan, etc. I have looked through the box to start to learn the rules and is the game only for four players and one game master? Right now, my board game group is six players. Is it possible to play with five players and the game master?

Also, reading through the forum it seems like the beginners box is designed for kids and young teens. I'm 29 and my friends are all around 28-32. We've played a lot of board games and card games like Fantasy Flight's Lord of the Rings or Dominion but none of us have really played a roleplaying game before.

Thanks!!!!!
