1 person marked this as a favorite.

Love it or hate it, I want to know!

Rimemist Tetsubo
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 8th
Slot none; Price 22,320 gp; Weight 10 lbs.
Description
This +1 frost tetsubo glints with beads of frozen dew, while wisps of fog waft around the handle. As a swift action, the wielder can call on a rolling billow of chilling fog to transform her into a gaseous form as the spell for up to 5 rounds each day. These rounds need not be consecutive.

Ice clings to a rimemist tetsubo as it leaves gaseous form, and the next successful attack deals an extra 1d4 cold damage as ice shards break from it.

The wielder of a rimemist tetsubo may suspend a gaseous form spell affecting her as a swift action, solidifying her corporeal form for 1 round. These rounds still count against the duration of the spell.

Construction
Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, gaseous form, chill metal or ice storm; Cost 11,320 gp

That last part is probably not an issue, just added for completeness and on second thought its less relevant than I thought, confusing the trope of an item line with the figurine line.

Take care with that, its a point to fret over.
Remember the crowd isn't judging you on your line of items, but the item you show us.
If there's more than that one, people want to know about the one they are being shown,
and the others don't exist yet so they only have the reference you give them.

It can work, there's a crowd who likes these items, and a crowd who doesn't care.

Also beware Sean's Wondrous Item advice #6: Item is a Variant of an Existing Item

Well, lets take your example.

We have 2 items, one has a tight focus, everything is about leg chopping. It's about ill gotten power and a theme to run with (while it still has legs to stand on.)

The other says the player chooses and gives a list of options, or has more generic powers useful for any demon.

The first has its theme set. You can describe everything and make it unique and have a wow factor based on the idea.

With the second, its theme is an assortment of themes, you have less word count to fill each and its basis is looser. This means the actual abilities have to be that much stronger, and they all have to stand out. Otherwise, you just made one good option (and item) and a bunch of bad ones without buffing up the good one with wordcount. This is what happened to me in my monster round. (I was in the hospital so changing it didn't happen, but it shouldn't have been written like that anyway.)

Congratulations, those who continued on.

I'm a little sad I was in the hospital and had surgery on the submission days for the monster round, it would have been nice to have 3 days to remove the alternate monsters, and change it from dragon to magical beast, and to fix the breath weapon on my steel miser... but on the plus side I recovered, and I look forward to seeing what you guys submit from here!

Thank you for your discussion. I'll be taking these thoughts into consideration given the change to advance.

Well, I have been wholly unavailable over the last week to say much to the guild hall. My sincerest apologies, I figure a late introduction is better than none at all, though it seems some was taken care of in my absence.

Greetings, my name is Tyler Cowart, I am from Owasso, Oklahoma, age 27, from the same city as Clay Clouser and within earshot of Steve Helt often enough. I'm happy to be participating this year, with little excuse to have not entered before. Our gaming group has plenty of diversity so while I am GMing currently, we switch openly.

I have appreciated reading everything so far, from the posts of previous years, to the incessant praise and ramblings, and this thread as well. I look forward to participating a bit more in full!

Thank you for the support, it means a lot to me.

It seems my moniker was used on the front page, Tyler Cowart is my real name, I'll see what I need to do to get that changed over.

There seems to be a lot of denotation for feet as xx' in submissions, it's more distracting than I expected. I do wish I posted more often, and participated in more voting last year; regardless of the repetitiveness its more fun than I expected.
