There are legitimate barriers to some people joining a new VTT. You're right, and that's true. From my specific situation I don't validate or understand those excuses, but I think that what you said here, basically "not enough games", is probably a more legitimate and simple excuse that will be eliminated with more exposure and popularity (I hope). ![]()

There isn't a huge paywall. There's a lot of games being run on the Ultimate license, which requires $0 from the players. In general, the online PF community balks at playing any VTT other than Roll20, at any pay level. Most the time, people assume it will cost them a lot of money when in reality to play it's generally free and to GM very little. People also often mention "buying their books twice". Nobody is buying a book twice. Nothing prevents someone from launching Fantasy Grounds, opening their book, prepping their game off the book, and then running it in Fantasy Grounds. However, there's also the option of going straight to launch Fantasy Grounds > play. Smiteworks has these really great professional modules prepped. What's better, if you already have the PDF, they give you a very generous discount. I've actually prepped several modules in Fantasy Grounds, such as the first book of Skull & Shackles. For the people that think they're purchasing content twice and it's unfair, I invite them to sit down and parse an adventure into a module before they're able to play it. Then try playing one that Fantasy Grounds has prepped. They will instantly understand what they're paying for and it's not "the book twice". They're not just sending you another copy of the PDF. TL;DR - I hear these two a lot. The "it's too expensive" argument holds very little water - a cursory examination will show many games that can be played for nothing. The "I won't buy my books twice" argument is gibberish. I myself have built my own modules for free or used ones others have built, GM's do it every day. ![]()
![]() I run games almost exclusively in Fantasy Grounds now. The quality of the modules Smiteworks puts out completely changes or negates the concept of "GM Prep" - with a few clicks the combat tracker is populated with fully statted and illustrated NPC's, their tokens are automatically placed on high-quality full-color maps, and combat rolls are automatically calculated with the same drag and drop ease that spell effects and conditions share. Items "from the shop" or "dropped by enemies" are also all drag and drop, pre-populated with all their stats. I can't for the life of me understand why this content isn't more popular than it already is. The extreme high fidelity of the modules they offer sharpens and brings the game experience into focus like no other. If you own the Paizo PDF there's a very generous discount and visa-versa. If it's possible for a player to enjoy a game in Fantasy Grounds I have a hard time understanding any reasons why they don't. They just don't seem legitimate. A lot of times all I can see is the general sentiment of "I don't want to put effort into learning something new". Which is surprising coming from RPG players, but I think an aversion to incorporating technology or switching from one platform to the next (in terms of established Roll20 players) plays a role. ![]()
![]() I run sessions Wednesdays at 10am MDT. Currently looking for 2 players. I run a Fantasy Grounds ultimate licence, so you can play via the free demo download. We use Teamspeak 3. For people who are serious about playing I usually like to have you add me on Steam. This is a pretty good virtual tabletop, and we've only played 3 sessions so characters are still at level 1. If you have time on Wednesday mornings, that's all you really need to play! ![]()
![]() I've been able to duplicate it a couple times, so I think it's legit. When I clone an event, on the event I clone, it removes the check boxed module from the original event. This may not have any effect on already reported events, but if the event hasn't been reported and it's cloned, it will no longer have a scenario associated with it until it's edited back in. ![]()
![]() I've also noticed that I'm missing a few scenarios, specifically for the Emerald Spire. I went through my reported events and sessions, and found some inconsistencies that I tried to fix, i.e. all my Emerald Spire sessions had been reset to Level 1, but I also noticed that the sessions report to the correct player, but don't show the correct player name. My star rating also dropped 1 star.
"One or more characters cannot play this scenario due to being the wrong character / scenario type."

Good advice with the flip mat. My group had a memorable encounter at Mahdi's. The small shop space and the windows made for some really fun rounds of scrambling, going in/out, and positioning. The sorceress hit Mezuk with a potently rolled max damage Elemental Ray that had him pull out his two-hander and chase her out the window and down the street, that was exciting for everybody. Once they got the info on the At Sea, Okeno pirates & etc. they immediately wanted to go find the ship in the harbor and rescue the Pathfinder slave. We went through a short roleplay where it became obvious that the party didn't have the resources or influence to pick out which ship they needed to investigate out of the dozens anchored in the harbor. I reminded them that they had been assigned to get information on the origins of Atleg the slave girl for Lady Darchana, and that if the day came to a close the At Sea would certainly have docked by then, dispersing any potentially dangerous slave cargo and the captured Pathfinder as well. With a few not-so-subtle hints that the party didn't have the political influence to get any infomation from the harbormaster's office on their own, and the reminder about their mission specifics, the party quickly decided to go talk to Lady Darchana. The module took back off from there as planned with a great ship-board fight. I just moved the grates on the main deck around a bit so it made more sense. Everybody commented on what a great module it was and how much fun they had. After struggling for a couple weeks on the Drowned Level of the Emerald Spire, this was a great urban respite for my beleaguered Pathfinders. ![]()
![]() This was a really fun module, as others have reported. As far as the maps go - They're all sub-par. Madhi's shop was the worst for my group. I had to come up with complete on-the-fly surroundings. It was an oversight on my part, but I really wish I'd have done it beforehand. The setup is a little confusing, especially for players newer to PFS. Not a single person at my table remembered what they were supposed to be doing, and the relationships between Lady Silvania, Lady Darchana, and Atleg never made sense to them. After they got the information from Madhi, I basically had to stop the game and do a simplified summary of the module up to that point. The lack of quality in the maps and the confusion about the setup didn't take much away from the fun of the module. Everybody really enjoyed it, mostly because every PC in the party had something to do. This is a really great module, and I advise those that run it in the future to just take a little time to improve the maps during your prep (Madhi's shop in particular), and also make sure everybody understands where all the NPC's stand, how they interact, and what the party is expected to do. ![]()

Yes, it would be fun to see some really major world events, but when things like that happen it also invalidates published material. Having to reprint the Inner Sea World Guide or even more minor books like the Demon Hunter's Handbook is a thing that, I imagine, is minimized, rather than planned on. Having things like PFS faction changes are kind of the best of both worlds. ![]()

I've went about contacting Stewart. I really appreciate the heads up. Just a little about me - I'm 33, I've been playing (GMing) tabletop roleplaying games since I was 11, or so. I've been sold on Pathfinder since day 1, and I'm really excited to help grow Pathfinder Society for new players and veteran players alike. With that in mind, I run Pathfinder Society once a week at my local game shop, Heroic Realms Hobbies and Games. I can't say enough good things about Heroic Realms, and I urge anybody who is ever in the area to stop in. You're sure to have a good time and meet new friends. ![]() Corruption! Intrigue! Scandal! Murder! Excitement. This and more is what you will find in the Shores of Orthanis. I've expanded my game into two groups. Both these groups will run parallel to each other, and infrequently cross paths for PVP ACTION. One group is of good alignment. Not as well trained or equipped, but never to be underestimated, the good aligned Sons of Solara fight for freedom, bravery, and justice in a dark, shadowed game setting. I call this group 'Tier 2' and I aim to make it easy to play for any gamer - only it will be Shores of Orthanis style with tactical combat and a well run / well paced storyboard. Trained as elite soldiers of darkness, the evil group marches under the banner of the dark god Girzon. These sadistic lawless zealots will do anything to stop the Sons of Solara from resurrecting their fallen goddess and wresting control of the region from their evil patron. 'Tier 1' is a challenging and technical PbP group designed to take players to the limits of their gaming potential both mentally and emotionally. The Shores of Orthanis is open for recruitment (Adults only!). When submitting a request to join please include this line: "My DOB is XX/XX/XXXX and I am an adult in my place of residence." ![]()
![]() The steady, unnatural light cast by the magical spells reach out into the deep blackness and are absorbed. The shadows cast by the light reach out into the deepening gloom like hungry fingers, only to be absorbed into the limitless unknown. The light bathes the goblinoid corpse in a clinical luminescence. Only several inches tall, it was clearly going to be difficult to determine the location and origin of these mouse sized creatures. Surely, a small gremlin such as this could dart into and out of cracks in the walls, hide behind random pebbles or pieces of rubbish, and seemingly appear or disappear at will. A dessicated spider husk lays upon the ground, relieved of it's deadly contents. It is still attached to a fine woven filament that reaches up into the blackness, perhaps a delicate rope or piece of fishing twine. The suspicious, paranoid party creeps back into this layer of death, and all eyes keep drifting back to the molted carapace and the area of dusty hard packed cavern floor around it littered with the drying blood, phlem, and lung tissue of a recently deceased companion. This was where Ioseph had fallen, a party member and loyal supporter of Girzon. Nobody can forget the shimmering magical scenes depicted in the blackness above the party - seemingly conjured - but by whom? What devious trickery had resulted in these devout followers of Girzon being viewed through magical conjurations as if they were merely rats in a maze? Who would dare suffer such an outrage? And the party advances. Inch by inch, they scour the floor of the first chamber. The walls. Everything, looking for a sign. Any sign, anything. Any clue or piece of information that could be to their advantage. No set of skills or methodology can hide the cloying scent of desperation in the air, however - because all those gathered know it's only a matter of time before they must advance into the blackness and face the unknown... Questions still remain. Who are those depicted in the conjured scenes? - this seeming audience. Parched throats and dry lips are more than a question - they are a demand for sustenance. What are these Gauntlet Gremlins? Where are they coming from? What do they want and most importantly... how can they be stopped? Their tiny spears cause little real damage, but in great numbers it's been shown that they can nearly cripple a fully equipped warrior in moments. Under careful scrutiny the blackness beyond the light spells reveal more than just a fathomless unknown. Out there, in the abyss, there is a chaotic whirlwind of answers. Bravely, these adventurers set foot - inch by inch - into a vague shadow that is more than a question mark upon a shortened horizon - it is their destiny. ![]()

"The present situation of Orthanis, and my constant devotion to follow the will of Girzon, has called me thus to assemble you all together." "Those who have successfully labored to inflame the people of Orthanis by gross misinterpretations, and infuse into their minds a system of opinions repugnant to the true will of the One God now openly avow their revolt, hostility, and rebellion. They have raised troops, are collecting supplies to wage battle, and cloister themselves within the guise and veil of innocent townsfolk. Although many of these townsfolk may still retain their loyalty, and may be too wise not to see the fatal consequences of this usurpation, and wish to resist it, yet the torrent of violence has been strong enough to compel their acquiescence, till a sufficient force shall appear to support them." "The rebellious war now levied is become more general, and is manifestly carried on for the purpose of ressurrecting a fallen heretic. I need not dwell upon the fatal effects of the success of such a plan. The object is too important, the spirit of the Church too high, the resources with which God hath blessed us too numerous, to give up so this area which we have planted with great industry, nursed with great tenderness, encouraged with many commercial advantages, and protected and defended at much expence of blood and treasure." "It is now become the part of wisdom, and, in its effects, of imperialism, to put a speedy end to these disorders by the most decisive exertions. For this purpose, I have called the Black Triad, and greatly augmented their power with you other faithful." "I have the satisfaction to inform you I have relocated several garrisons of Girzon's Black Legions into Orthanis, under my direct command, in order that a large number of the established forces for the Empire may be applied to the maintenance of it's authority; and the Blackguards, planned and regulated with equal regard to the strength, domination, and protection of Girzon's crown and worship, may give a farther extent and activity to our military operations. Orthanis will be put under Martial Law until further notice." "When the unhappy and deluded multitude, against whom this force will be directed, shall become sensible of their error, I shall be ready to receive the misled with the mercy of a swift execution. In order to prevent the inconveniencies which may arise from the great distance of their situation, and to remove as soon as possible the calamities which they suffer, I shall give authority to the Black Triad and their new associates upon the spot to accuse, judge, and execute suspected malefactors, in such manner, and to such persons as they shall think fit." "The first and foremost duty of this newly formed unit will be to enter the Ironium Arena Gauntlet, sieze the suspected holy texts of the heretics, and bring them to me. New tickets for such a venture will be procured." "I have fully opened to you my views and intentions. The constant employment of my thoughts, and the most earnest wishes of Girzon, tend wholly to the strength and totality of Girzon's will, and to the re-establishment of order and dominance through all districts of Orthanis. You see the tendency of the present disorders, and I have stated to you the measures which I mean to pursue for suppressing them. Whatever remains to be done, that may farther contribute to this end, I commit to your wisdom." "Know this - kingdoms rise and fall through rebellion. The true error, one just as punishable as the desire and execution of such a rebellion, is the inability of those in power to quell such an uprising. If you fail me in this, Girzon has no further use for you." ____________________________________________________________ *disclaimer* I didn't write all this word for word - I adapted it for use within the game. ![]()
