Magicians range from powerful wizards to vile cultists. They draw on raw supernatural energy to fuel their eldritch fires. This energy often infuses the worlds in which they live, and is drawn forth with elaborate rituals, words of power, runes, or perhaps even dark sacrifices.
Wizards are often quite weak early in their careers, but are forces to be reckoned with as they become powerful sorcerers.
► Backlash: When a wizard rolls a 1 on his Spellcasting die (regardless of his Wild Die), he is automatically Shaken. This can cause a wound.
Starting Powers: Bolt, Mind Reading, Summon Ally

Wizard (from advance 1)

Wizards range from young apprentices to frighteningly powerful supreme sorcerers. They are often physically weak, however, and rarely have the divine powers or healing abilities of priestly spellcasters. What they lack in spiritual favor, however, they more than make up for in utility and eldritch might.
Wizards tend to learn their craft in formalized institutions or under the tutelage of experienced masters. Each raise a Wizard gets on his Spellcasting roll reduces the cost of the spell by 1 Power Point. The Wizard must have the points available to cast the spell in the first place before rolling.

Background
Treanda always stood out from his peers by being a bit smarter (maybe even a lot smarter) than any of his friends. Even when he was very small, he was able to read (which he did voraciously) and also picked up languages with ease. However when he was in his early teens his parents were killed when their small grocery was robbed. His younger sister was sent to live with his Aunt and Uncle in the city but they had no room for Treanda. Instead they arranged for him to go live in Magnimar with an old friend of the family who was an instructor at the local college of Wizadry. Not surprisingly magic came to him easily and he became one of the best pupils at the Academy and now has risen to the ranks of Junior Instructor and thought he would spend the rest of his life comfortably doing his research and reading his books.

His life though has just been turned upside down. A few weeks ago he received a letter from his little sister saying that his Aunt and Uncle had gone missing and men were following her whenever she left the house. She said that there was no one she could turn to and asked her brother to please come and protect her. Treanda arranged for passage on the first ship to Korvosa but when he arrived there was no sign of his sister. Asking around the neighborhood the only useful clue he gathered was that a pimp from the notorious Eel's End had been seen watching his sister who had grown into a beautiful young women.

Treanda has now made his way to Eel's End and has been using his mind reading ability to try to find his sister. His search has pointed him in the direction of the King of Spiders himself.
