I've got a party of 8th level PCs (7 of them) who absolutely demolished two fire giants (a CR 12 encounter) on Sunday. They used a combination of hold person and coup de grace to basically demolish one of the giants right off. Then they basically bludgeoned/hacked/wholloped the other one for two rounds until he died.

This was supposed to be a fairly epic battle, but it became anticlimactic in the extreme.

The party has magic items/equipment in line with their level (according to party wealth in the Pathfinder Core). Am I doing something wrong?

personally i dont believe anything is wrong with that. they were just creative, very creative. maybe u just need to use more creatures like oozes and other creatures that cant be coupe de grace. and enemies that cant have hold person used on them

Yes, it's a Rogue archetype. Kind of a fighter-acrobat thing going on.

yes! finally i get to be a swashbuckler in pathfinder

can someone tell me if there is swashbuckler archtype in it?

when i occasionally dm a game i allow core bestiary(for races on case- to - case basis), house rules and apg when it comes out. i also allow 3.5 books on case-to-case basis. then again anything that isnt core or apg has to make sense for the pc in that campaign.

Yes, he is another variant on the Evil Paladin I needed to design for a custom pantheon/setting. This one is Chaotic Evil. Looking for people's opinions/thoughts. Most abilities are the inverse of the paladin abilities, but I didn't want to just take the opposite of the paladin Mercy abilities, so I tweaked them some.

Reaver
Start with Paladin and make the following changes:
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Class Skills: Bluff(Cha), Craft (Int), Intimidate (Cha), Handle Animal(Cha), Knowledge(Sacrifice)*(int), Knowledge(Religion)(int), Profession(Wis), Ride(Dex), Sense Motive(Wis), Spellcraft(Int)

*Knowledge(Sacrifice) is from the D&D suppliment Book of Vile Darkness.

Class Features:
1st level: Aura of Evil, Detect Good, Smite Good 1/day
2nd Level: Profane Grace, Reaving Touch
3rd Level: Aura of Unease, Profane Stamina, Shivering
4th level: Channel Negative Energy, Smite Good 2/day
5th level: Profane Bond
6th Level: Shivering
7th Level: Smite Good 3/day
8th level: Aura of Defiance
9th level: Shivering
10th level: Smite Good 4/day
11th level: Aura of Destruction
12th level: Shivering
13th level: Smite Good 5/day
14th level: Stigmata (was Aura of faith)
15th level: Shivering
16th level: Smite Good 6/day
17th level: Aura of Domination
18th level: Shivering
19th level: Smite Good 7/day
20th level: Unholy Champion

Ability Descriptions:
Aura of Evil: The power of a Reaver's aura of Evil (see the detect evil spell) is equal to his reaver level.
Detect Good: At will, a reaver can use detect good, as the spell. A reaver can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is good, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the reaver does not detect good in any other object or individual within range.
Smite Good: Once per day, a reaver can call out to the powers of evil to aid her in his struggle...

im pretty sure there is something like this in the APG btw but is still nice

but wouldnt it be -2/-6?
Nope. -2 to each attack because they are the wrong size for you, -2 because they are one-handed weapons used with Oversize TWF. -4/-4.
just to clarify everything the -4/-4 + -2/-6(twf) to a total of -6/-10. or should i just use kukuris?
No, the -4/-4 is total. The -2/-6 is irrelevant if you're taking Two Weapon Fighting (which I assumed you were, and which you have to do to get Oversize TWF anyway).

ok thank you for the info

No offense, I just hate this joke.

The Empower Spell feat says all spells with variable numeric effects have those variables increased by half.

Heal(and Harm as well), do not have variable effects. Any Damage healed(or dealt) are set.

So to answer your question, Empower Spell will only work with spells that have actual dice to roll.

EDIT: Ninja'd by The Grandfather...

thank you

my question is can u empower the heal spell or does empower only work on spells with actual dice rolls for damage?

since he has access to complete warrior and scoundrel i would suggest rogue swashbuckler. because off a feat in scoundrel that allows lvls to stack for sneak attack, grace, and dodge bonus. also because you get weapon finesse at 1st lvl of swash. lets not forget the full BAB from swash either

k found it thanks

ive read all over the core book and i cant find any where were it says what i need to roll to craft a wondrous item. any help would be appreciated.
is what i need to roll based on gm discretion or is there a table i cant find. currently playing in a pathfinder/3.5 campaign with a 12th lvl favored soul of pelor

this sheet is really nice and is easy to use, but for a guy like me who uses all 3.5 books with his pathfinder campaign(completely home brew). so when the updated one is released it can have info from 3.5 aswell. i.e. complete divine, adventurer, arcane etc.
