Making sure that he keeps his eyes on the creatures as they quickly flit away after making their attacks and trying to hide off in the trees to the side of the path again, Torval reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out a stoppered vial before swiftly yanking the vial open and downing the contents. Throwing the now empty vial to the ground, he shivers at the sensation of the brew as it makes it's familiar changes to his body.

I was fairly sick through last week unfortunately, however I am still around yes. I was waiting also on GM to update the combat map before making a decision on what to do, I'll put something in without it for now though.

Bolting upright in to a seated position from where the savage creature had left him in the snow pile with a wheezing gasp, Torval moves to prop himself up onto one knee, placing a hand onto the ground to steady himself as he does so. Gently probing at where he was bitten with his remaining free hand, Torval's face shows stark relief as he feels at the tender wound and at his near-escape from a close brush with death.

Rising up from the ground with a pained grunt, Torval makes his way from out of the snow pile and heads back over to pick up his spear from it's current place lying in the snow where he was attacked, using it as a prop to ease himself back up before looking over to the group. "You have all saved my life. Thank you"

Pulling up besides Harsk, Torval takes a better look at the spot in the snow that the dwarf also seems to have noticed "It looks like a fairly large chest, I would assume that whoever is responsible for the attack on the nobles carriages brought it up here. But why would they not take it all the way back to wherever their basecamp is?"

Rolling his shoulders to loosen up, Torval tightens his hand around the reassuring heft of his spear and casts a suspicious gaze out at the surroundings before moving in closer to the chest to give it a proper inspection.

Take 20 Perception to look for traps if possible. If not, roll:

No worries in fact it's reassuring, and interesting to roleplay out in this and future scenes, to have a character with such a defined moral core being a part of our party. Plus it's been helping me shape out in my mind about how Torval would act/think of such situations.

Looking up from his inspections of the ice-encased corpse of the Taldan captain in confusion at Harsk's statement 'Frostbite like the Ulfen in town I can understand, but this?' Torval begins to ask him to clarify what he means before he catches a glint from the jewelery currently held in Linge's hands.

"Perhaps Master Harsk, though I believe it would most likely belong to the noble lady that we have come out searching for. In either case it will be easy enough to carry until we decide what should be done with it."

Dropping his sling to the ground with a grimace for his fool-hardy next action, Torval pulls his spear off from his back and moves in to provide further distraction and support for his allies.

Note to self. Must put more effort into improving my bombs.

Zombies! It's too crowded to risk throwing a bomb or vial of acid at either of the creatures without hitting any of the others, but my spear and sling will be nearly useless against them.

Torval moves over towards Linge in an attempt to find a clearer line of fire towards one of the zombies before quickly loosing a shot at one of them.

That's unfortunate, but we shall soldier on!

Also, why oh why did Torval not buy a simple dagger at some point? Without one he currently has damage choices of bludgeoning, piercing or *drumroll* high collateral damage-ing. Oh to be level 2 and have Precise Bombs.

After pulling out his sling and loading up the cup with with a bullet, Torval moves in after the others in the group towards the carriages and the evident signs of a battle which had been sorely lost.

"Perhaps he senses something that we do not," Torval notes in reply to Asta's statement "animals often have keener senses than most people do. Personally I'm more concerned about whatever it is that is making the sounds from that carriage." he finishes while pointing directly to the carriage in question.

More than a little surprised himself as Kristophe enthusiastically bustles out from the apothecaries, Torval shakes his head and gives a small sigh before setting out himself after the young human. Pausing at the door, he turns around to the others still left in the room "I'll go and see to it that he doesn't run off too far ahead of us all. If anyone needs further supplies before we head out, meet us at the south road to Zimar just outside the village."

Democracy in action! Going with the flow that says Kristophe just straight up ran out of there :)

"Cold iron is likely the metal you are thinking of Miss Calynse. It is known for it's effectiveness against many fey creatures and certain creatures of the lower planes, demons I believe" Torval answers from his position standing back behind the others. Looking over their shoulders as Linge moves into the room, he watches as she checks over him and starts assessing the wounds that the Ulfen man has suffered.

Looking over the map spread out over the table as he thinks through who may be able to provide them with the best information for finding this noblewoman, Torval makes his decision as it seems that most of the rest of the group have come forward to a consensus "Yes the bodyguard, I agree, his first hand accounting of the situation will likely be the most helpful for us. Perhaps if his description is accurate enough, we may be able to ascertain what type of fey these 'winter touched' creatures are to prepare accordingly before we leave"

Perturbed, and a feeling more than a little insulted at the insinuation that he would not be able to handle himself in the wintry weather, Torval cannot stop a slight frown from growing more apparent before he shortly replies to the womans questions "My name is Torval Brasmi. As these others have stated" he says as he gestures over to Asta and Kristophe "do not presume that this unnatural cold you are experiencing would be enough to kill me."

Satisfied that he has now put her preconceptions in their place, Torval reflexively gives a quick self-satisfied nod before continuing on "Now, we have been told that you could use some assistance, please tell us of what information you have already divined and where your investigations have led so far."

Torval gazes blankly at at the innkeeper Kale as she regales provides them with her helpful gossip information, slowly blinking his eyes once as she comes to a close in a vain effort to mentally translate what she has said into understandable Common "I...see..."

Standing up after Harsk, he gathers his own backpack from the floor at his feet and his spear from it's nearby position propped against the wall. "Well it seems that this Councilwoman Ionnia will be the person we need to talk to for any...solid information." Torval states while looking askance at the innkeeper before following Harsk out the doors and off to the Heldren Town Hall.

Grinning openly at the human's innocent sounding response to the dwarfs perfunctory greeting to the group, Torval has a sip of his ale as the elf - Calynse she said her name is, names are not meant to be difficult to remember - introduces herself to the table and the one of other humans sitting around the table also says a few words.

"That is right, word of the strange cold snap, and even something of the snowfalls that we have seen had even reached it's way to Zimar some days ago. Although I do have to say that when I was back there the thought it would actually be snowing in this area seemed like nothing more than, well, rumours and hearsay."

Taking another sip from his ale, Torval places the mug back down on the tabletop before continuing "I am Torval Brasmi. I have also come to Heldren in hopes of uncovering the reasons behind this phenomenon, after he deduced my interest in these latest rumours my master advised that he has not needed as much help in the lab lately and said that I could use some more 'real world' experience."

Leaning against his spear while paused on the road just outside of Helgen, Torval slowly lets out a breath and watches as it comes out from his body in a plume of spiralling fog before it dissipates away into the surrounding air.

"So the rumours of an unnatural early winter in the area were true" he mutters quietly to himself, looking past the remaining foggy wisps and into the village lightly bustling with people going about their business "Well, that is something." Hefting up his spear from it's resting position, Torval starts striding off into the village while keeping his eye out for the local inn, a warm fire would be very welcome after travelling through these snows.

Ah yes, greetings. I am Torval Brasmi, a studied naturalist and student of alchemy, if I could only procure some more magical ingredients in this town I might brew us some helpful potions.

Technically, well literally, Torval only has a sling as of now rather than the crossbow. That gold ended up being used to purchase a few other starting items instead. He will be mostly spending feats building up his ranged combat abilities, that is supposing he lives that long at any rate ;)


Just a quick post to note that I've made some changes to Torval's gear which has been updated in his profile details, dropped the relatively high expense weapons and replaced them with some different mundane gear & some crafted Alchemical items.

Background:
Torval was born in a small Cheliaxian border village, mostly populated by Half-Orcs and humans, which primarily supported itself by lumber trading. Unfortunately for them, their 'secondary' profession involving the smuggling of escaped slaves over into Andoran territory did not hold them in good stead when it was discovered by the Hellknights.

In one fell night, the village was purged and burned to the ground for charges of treason against the crown, with some few other survivors grabbing as many children as they could and fleeing by boat past Andor and onwards into Taldor before splitting up in hopes of escaping further retribution.

Young Torval ended up left with an old alchemist, Drystan Caldwell, who had recently settled down in a town to ply his trade as a healer and was looking for a likely apprentice. Though Tarval was not quite as interested in healing as Drystan, he has proved quite adept at much of the rest of the Alchemists trade and has even made some promising discoveries that he hopes will lead to combining beastial advantages to his mutagenic formula...

Appearance/Personality:
He appears somewhat short and slender (at least for a Half-Orc), barely topping 6 feet tall and weighing in at about 200 pounds. He has his dark brown neatly swept back and kept in place with a leather braid and part of an intricate tribally designed tattoo can be seen beneath his collarbone before disappering underneath his shirt.

Torval tends to approach life in a very methodical manner and tends to be more of a restrained personality in most circumstances, though he can be quite enthiusiastic when it comes to his alchemical knowledge. He is quite kind hearted and has quite a generous streak, both traits picked up from his years of living with Drystan

Perhaps luckily, he does not remember much of his early childhood or anything of the gruesome events which led to the flight to Taldor. As Drystan was never entirely sure of the veracity of the events that he was told of, he taught Torval only that he had been left with him as an orphaned refugee from a disaster at his birth village.

GM Questions:
I've never played or read through anything of the Reign of Winter adventure path, so this would be a brand spanking new journey for me and Torval :)

I'm not playing any other PbP games, however I am playing another game online using the Roll20 system with a group and just started playing in a Rise of the Runelords game.

Regarding starting gold, I've assumed you meant the average by class (105 gp for an Alchemist) and purchased items based on this. If I read this wrong and have a little more to play with please let me know.
