Torn Armor update!
Now we are heading toward out funding level of 50k! Not only will we fund the project when we get there, but we will also have a mini-stretch goal!
Only 9 days left!
Lots of big updates on the Torn Armor kickstarer!
We've reached the mini-stretch goal of 40k, so the Akongo and Tribuni hero units have been added!
We have introduced a 3rd Behemoth unit! A gnomish clockwork magic assault platform called "Moriarty's Bell"!
and... we now have FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING!
In case you guys missed it: Preview of the 40k Stretch Goal!
Both are leaders, both are powerful, and both inspire the troops!

Yeah, the map making competition was one Natalya was wanting to throw out there from the beginning, but we held back on it until there was a good number of people backing it :) We will see how many submissions we get for it! =D (and I agree: Mayan ruins would be awesome!)

I like that barbarian/berserker angle, especially for the Sisk. Being an expansionist country, it would make sense that they would have conquered people on their side that would fit this. And the extremist elementals: I agree, i think that would go well with a plant race. Like the spirits of the elements have risen up against the "meat" races of the world.
So we are running a kickstarter for our fantasy skirmish board game Torn Armor (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1471855235/torn-armor) Currently, there are two sides in the game: The Sisk Empire, an expansionist society akin to ancient Romans and Greeks. For gameplay purposes they are strictly human (although in the actual Torn World setting they are the whole gambit of the "core" races) and the Maychians, anthropomorphic animal races (vanara, catfolk, ratfolk, serpentfolk, tengu etc etc). They are "low tech" and are akin to the Aztecs and Mayans. So my question is: In a fantasy board game such as this, what other factions and/or races would YOU as a gamer want to see?
So not only is there the collaboration with Reaper miniatures (with the FREE Clockwork Dragon included with all the other rewards at pledges $75 and up) but there is ALSO the Winged Hussar unit that has been unlocked as a "mini stretch goal" (a stretch goal reached before funding!) Check him out here! http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/536589_304347392970921_972650151 _n.jpg AND! The 30k "mini stretch goal" has been revealed as well!

DSX: I hear you! The War Elephant is awesome! I am a Kerrosus/Rhino-man guy myself (as I am a Maychian at heart) but the elephants ROCK! We are really happy with how they came out! :) I hear you on the friends to join front! ;)
There is still about 24 hours to go for the current Battle for An Gearesdan: REFER A FRIEND! Get a friend to pledge to the Torn Armor kickstarter! Have them post in Update #8 and mention your name and what faction they are fighting for! Your friends can pledge ANY AMOUNT (even $1)... BUT for every friend you bring on-board that pledges $75 or more, we will throw in $10 worth of add-ons for you AND your friend (you choose what you want independently), free of charge! (You can use this $10 towards something that costs a greater amount.) This battle and offer ends 9:00 PM PST on Thursday March 14th! Don't miss it!
GREAT NEWS!
MORE GREAT NEWS!
Big news for the Torn Armor project! "Reaper Miniatures has given us the greenlight to add their Clockwork Dragon as a Torn Armor unit; complete with unit card. When we hit 60k, we'll even create a new map set and special scenario. Of course, this gives us an excuse to introduce the "flying units" and "breath weapon" rules =D The best part of this? The first 500 backers to pledge $75 or more (the game or any combination of add-ons and pledge levels) gets the Clockwork Dragon FOR FREE with no extra shipping." What a collaboration! Get in now before it hits 500 backers! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1471855235/torn-armor?ref=live
Awesome! Thanks guys. I've got to remember that there isn't a perfect formula for everything, especially for the magic items! Yeahhh... I once calculated a Ring of Righteous Might by the books rules. O_O Holy schemoly was that thing pricey... Like you say Crysknife, there is a reason you don't see items like that floating around everywhere
I have never started a thread like this before, so I hope I am not beating a dead horse on this one. I know there are tone of threads out there discussing the creation of magic items, and I have read through them, as well as reading the book, AND other sources online. While a lot of magic item creations make sense, there are a lot that don't calculate in my head. When that happens, I usually try to "reverse engineer" an item to see if I can figure out how they got there. One that I am having an issue figuring out is the Efficient Quiver http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/magicItems/wondrousItems.html#efficient- quiver Would someone be able to help explain to me how an item like that, needing a 9th level caster and a 5th level spell and having no space limitation costs only a mere 1,800 gp? Thanks all! (as an aside, the reason I am asking is because I am trying to throw together a similar magic item...)
True true. And the Mafia example is perfect of a lawful group of rogues-types. Also, I definitely am reminded of the Three (well, four) Musketeers. They would definitely be described as Cavaliers (scoundrels even!) and they were loyal to the King of France. They had their own adventures AND served in the army in times of war because their King and code said it was required of them... But in their "down time" they were tricksters, rogues, scoundrels, lovers, gamblers, etc etc etc... Alright, I can totally see the arguement to allow all alignments.
LOL

It just seems that if there is any sort of order or organization a character would be a part of , they would have to meet certain guidelines or criteria to be part of it. *shrugs*

I have to agree with Zurai. wouldn't a thieves guild or assassains guild be considered more or less "chaotic?" sure there ARE lawful rogues, but they aren't swarming the streets like the neutral and/or chaotic ones. I would consider those to be an "order" in a manner of speaking
Jason Bulmahn wrote:
Okay, I can definitely see the Order of the Dragon being a non-lawful type, perhaps even more CN, CE, or NE... Perhaps that would be something to consider? Have each Order have a bank of alignments to choose from that the character would have to choose from? Like instead of "Alignment: Any" it is "Alignment: Varies based on chosen Order (see below)" ...? Then each Order could have, lets say, 3 alignments choices, each just one step away from each other that fits the code of the order. That even would work of the potential CN, CE, NE for the Order of the Dragon, ya?
It's true that chaotic characters don't have to be disorganized or irrational, but it IS harder to believe that a chaotic character would hold true to any oath s/he makes... The whole point of being a chaotic character is not playing by the rules right? The alignment breakdown makes it clear that CG, CN, and CE characters all shun laws and "traditions" because of their desire to be "free." Personally, when I look at the Cavalier class, I see a re-vamped Knight class (presented in WotC's PHB2) that has been merged with the Cavalier prestige class (presented in the Complete Warrior). Since taking an Oath and being in an Order are the cores of this class, I think it should be restricted to the Lawaful alignments.
A chaotic character would be very tempted to bend the rules of his or her Oath and Order. That's what chaotic characters do. :) |
