[R20/G+] #5-01 The Glass River Rescue [1-5] 02/01/2014 - 7 p.m. CST US (GMT -6) A Pathfinder Society Scenario for characters of 1st to 5th level (Tier 1–5). A Pathfinder leading a diplomatic envoy from the dwarven holds of the Five Kings Mountains has gone missing, and the balance of power in a time of war hangs on her rescue. The Pathfinder Society's divinations indicate the agent was waylaid in the theocratic nation of Razmiran, when one of her escorted diplomats failed to pay a requested tithe. Now it falls to the party to enter Razmiran, locate the missing Pathfinder and the dwarven diplomats, and escape with their lives. Written by Mike Shel. Pathfinder Society Scenario #5–08: The Confirmation 1/24/14 @ 7:00 P.M. CST US (GMT -6) Roll20/Google Hangouts A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for level 1-2. Almost all Pathfinders undergo extensive training for three or more years to learn the tricks of the trade, and their last test before graduating from the ranks of the initiates to the status of a full Pathfinder agent is the Confirmation, a special research project that involves considerable fieldwork and is designed to simulate the initiates' future work as a Pathfinder. Even the noteworthy field commissioned agents sometimes participate in such trials as a way to familiarize themselves with the Pathfinder Society’s rules and expectations. Although Confirmation is typically an individual affair, the society recently discovered a site on the Isle of Kortos that would be perfect for initiates but perhaps too dangerous to handle alone. Successfully uncovering this site’s secrets will not only contribute to the society’s body of knowledge but shape the exciting careers ahead for each of the prospective agents. Written by Kyle Baird. This scenario is designed for new [levels 1 and 2] characters and the table itself is more than welcome to players that are new to either PFS, online play or both. [R20/G+] We Be Goblins 1/18/14 @12:00 P.M. CST US (GMT -6) A most unusual adventure for 1st-level goblin characters. The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh have stumbled upon a great treasure—fireworks! Yet unfortunately for them, the tribe member responsible for the discovery has already been exiled for the abhorrent crime of writing (which every goblin knows steals words from your head). To remedy this situation, the Licktoads’ leader, His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad, has declared that the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve the rest of the fireworks from a derelict ship stranded in the marsh. In order to prove themselves as the Licktoads’ bravest goblins, the PCs must complete a series of dangerous dares, from swallowing bull slugs and braving the dreaded Earbiter to dancing with Squealy Nord himself. Yet even once they’ve proven their mettle, the adventure is just beginning. For the ship in question is far from uninhabited, and Vorka the cannibal goblin would like nothing better than a few tasty visitors.... Written by Richard Pett. I need three players, alchemist is taken. Please send an email to tomh.pfs at gmail.com to reserve your spot. Bring your best goblin voice!

Since the bottleneck is finding a GM, the value of any community that advertises VTT games is determined by the number of GMs advertising in that community. In my experience only and your mileage may vary etc etc., it does seem ironic that the forum here is not currently the best place to find a game. I know that the few games I've advertised to GM I've done in the PFSOC for no other reason than I've gotten into many games there as a player and wanted to "pay it forward" and put back into that community. I'm sure there's some sociological name for this phenomenon. In any event, the number of GMs is the barrier, and as Lazarx correctly points out, adding a VTT to a first time GM's table adds another stressful component. But it really shouldn't! There are resources out there, specifically some youtube videos put out by some awesome PFSOC GMs that are great introductions to Roll20 and are easily found on google. Plus just ask for help if you need it, the Pathfinder/Roll20 community as a whole is pretty friendly.
Zwordsman, welcome to PFS online play! I started playing PFS online a few months ago because there were no locations close to me to try it out, like you, and I've been having a great time. The best suggestion I can make for you to get your bearings on PFS(though maybe not the one you're looking for) is to read and re-read the guide to organized play. Most if not all of your questions regarding rules will be there. Aside from that you might want to pick up the Pathfinder Player's Companion: PFS Primer and/or Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Pathfinder Society Field Guide. Both of these guides really helped me get a feel from the flavor of the campaign and are good introductions to the various factions and NPCs that you will encounter throughout different scenarios. There are also different options for characters like PFS specific archetypes and magic items, and prestige point "flavor" purchases. The other thing I would suggest is to try to play First Steps: In Service to Lore and/or The Confirmation. These are designed to be introductory scenarios. Finally, there are tons of options for online play out there. This forum is a good place to check for games, as well as the Pathfinder Online Society Collective google group. (Don't be afraid to introduce yourself there, it's a pretty fun bunch.) Some GMs also organize their own play through https://warhorn.net/. My best advice though is to not get discouraged if you don't get into VTT tables right away, they fill up very fast. The best thing to do is to keep checking for new postings and don't be afraid to sign up for an "alt" spot at a table. Hopefully this helps a little, good luck - maybe I'll see you at a table!
I am a new GM (this was my 2nd PFS session) and ran this last night on the Roll20 VTT. I had a great time prepping and running this game. With the RP potential with the gillman, the iconography puzzles, and encounters with varied creatures, there is something for everyone. It wasn't until the actual encounter with the Minotaur that I realized how difficult he would be. He's like a "beefier" Ledford. He dropped our warpriest (who was rushing to Janira's aid) unconscious with one hit. Between the massive damage and the difficulties the PCs had navigating the terrain, I had a little anxiety going on- until the party prevailed and revived the fallen. The only thing that was a little clunky, and this is from a VTT perspective, was how to handle the note taking. I did not show them the handout, I simply explained that paper was handed to them and instructed the players to take notes digitally and then send it to me in an email. Some of the players would make comments in the chat box that they were taking notes as certain story elements were revealed, which I thought was good. In the end it was moot since they met other secondary conditions. I regret not showing them the handout, I think it was a mistake. My next session I will include the picture, even though it is blank parchment, because I think its inclusion impresses upon players its importance to the mission. Does anyone have any other idea how to handle note taking in a VTT situation? All in all, great fun. The personalized reward is a great touch. I look forward to running this again.

Hey, I'm in the beginning stages of doing this. We're only halfway through Crypt of Everflame, but I actually started with Into the Haunted Forest. spoiler:
Into the Haunted Forest was actually a blast, tons of RP potential and different enemy types, every PC had something to do. I sort of changed the story just a little bit to fit it into the Price of Immortality. Basically I came up with ideas for the mentors to have an errand for the PCs to run while they got ready for the Everflame ritual. Then I made the bad guys they run into in Haunted Forest have characteristics of the Ramziran cult. I didn't give too much away, but had them have little mask tokens. If they were interrogated I had them say they were working for a mysterious new boss in Tamran. I only put tiny teaser details like that in, hopefully my players will remember when we get to Masks. The mercenary leader in Haunted Forest actually fled and got away, I think I might drop him into Masks somehow.
I should say that I put Haunted Forest first because I had heard there is an XP gap between Everflame and Masks. Haunted Forest gave them a nice little bump of 1300 xp each. I wanted them to hit level 2 before they got to the 2nd floor of Everflame. I was going to run Fellnight Queen after I get done with the Price series, but wasn't sure where to go after that. Since the Pathfinder Society makes an appearance in the series I was considering finding a higher level scenario or two to rewrite into the campaign. But I'm not sure if my players will like that idea since they won't be run for credit. I'm interested to see if you, or someone else, comes up with anything.
Hey, I was at your table! Truly, this is a non-issue for me. I got your follow up email and it didn't even register as a problem. For me it is more important playing this game with friendly folks and having a good time, than accumulating points on a sheet. Please don't let this discourage you from GMing in the future because you did a great job! |
