Male Dwarf Monk/2
Tok raises the brick to eye level, peering at it intently. "Based on my extensive knowledge on all things mineral, my conclusion is...it's stone." Looking up at Valen, he says, "I was a merchant's son. I do not have the extensive knowledge of stonework that many of my people do." Hefting the brick from hand to hand, he does take a closer look. "Wait a minute...this is something...maybe..." Appraise Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 "Bah. I know nothing of it. I've spent too many years breaking stone, not studying it."

I feel like that escalated really quickly. Tok's an ass, yes, but I can't imagine that his words would push somebody that far that quickly. I feel like adjusting my ability scores to go down to 5 Charisma. That might be kind of fun to see what kind of trouble I can get The Carnival in to.

Tok is unmoved by the dwarf's outburst. "Our manners are of little importance, mayor. We have taken a job. That job is to rid your town of the evil that plagues it. We will carry out our job with or without your help." He pauses, struggling with what words to use next. "If my words that insult you carry more weight than your obligation to the people who selected you to be their leader, I believe you are not fit for them follow. The people in this town have shown nothing but kindness to us and do not deserve to suffer because of your pride." Tok finishes a stern look on his face. He is calm, but he is angry.

"Little time, indeed. It is obvious you don't get out much any more. Surely you've seen how the people under your care are suffering? And your solution is to pay bandits to do your work? It seems whatever devotion you had to Desna has aged and weakened as you have." I'm charisma 8.

Satisfied that the argument is won, Tok finishes his small meal. He does reach for several more slices of bread, but refuses - with difficulty - the pancakes. His refusal is one of stubbornness more than piety. He studies Valen as he eats the pancakes. Perception Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

"If it was Grimtaur, I'd like to pay his manor a visit sooner rather than later. The walking dead and spirits of those passed don't make for a pleasant watch. Or a safe caravan. If you don't mind, I think I will stay and take part in the watch with you. I don't know if what we saw had bad intentions, but I'd rather not be asleep if so." With that, Tok settles in around the fire. "Fury, why don't you share a story with us to pass the time. Surely a soldier such as yourself has a tale or two."

Tok turns towards Nine Tail, his eyes piercing through the darkness, looking for another sign of the rider. "Thank the master, I was worried my eyes were playing tricks on me. Should we wake the others?" Waiting for Nine Tail's reply, Tok peers into the night, searching for a sign of movement or the mysterious rider. Perception Check -> 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

I don't have any grand plans for Tok. A monk, by nature, is relatively unoptimized, so I'm playing for fun more than eeking out every point possible. That said, I'd like to explore the drunken master and perhaps incorporate a vow of some type from UM. Additionally, once UC comes out, if you're open to it, I might incorporate some interesting monk changes from that. As for where Tok is going in-character, I'm not quite sure yet. I think it might be kind of fun to enter some kind of arena/colosseum event as a unit, as that's what inspired Tok ton enter the monastery in the first place.

I think it's been great. On the GM side, the posts are frequent enough and move the story forward appropriately - I've played some PbP where the GM doesn't push the story forward, choosing to treat it more like a RL game. I like that we're not drawing out anything too much. I was curious about the pacing of leveling - are you coordinating with the other DMs to keep each squad around the same level? There was talk of swapping out squad folks down the line, and that will be difficult if it's unbalanced. As for the PCs, I'm loving everyone's character development. I really do agree with everything Fury said and Acune added. |
