Tis'kaliss was born to the noble family of Darlain, to a pair of half-elf parents. At 14, in an attempt to anger his parents, he declared that he wanted to become a priest of Mask. His parents wholeheartedly supported his decision, reasoning that it would help draw thieves away from them.
His parents sent him, and his younger sister, Hularia, to a family friend. They lived there, with the equivalent of a permanently drunken uncle, and practiced stealing in the small town. After word got out, they were brought back home when he was 16. Their parents were delighted to have them back, and then celebrated. Tis'kaliss, not knowing what else to do, and still being rebellious, ran away from home, giving himself a scar on his face.
He and his sister escaped to a large nearby city, and lived there. One night, at 18, they came across a group of hooded men. Expecting trouble, the two killed the 5 men almost before they were even noticed. It was only when they flipped back their hoods that they realized that it was the family butler and 4 servants, sent to deliver them a letter asking them to come home.
The letter spoke of a debt incurred from bribes to make people overlook Tis'kaliss's and his sister's reckless stealing. The family needed several thousand gold, and within a decade. Hularia, needing time to think, and distraught over the death of innocents, left their inn room to decide what she wanted to do. She never came back.
Tis'kaliss made a deal with Mask. He is the god's only paladin, the lord of thieves's only paladin voice in the world. And he gets to make money to get his family out of debt. And he will find his sister while he's at it.
