Reign of Winter is fairly easy to transition to from just about anywhere going into the 2nd part: The party finds a localized blizzard with an open portal, fights a troll, assumes the Black Rider's mantle, goes through the portal, and defeats the inhabitants of an ice castle to close the portal causing the un-seasonal blizzard (also trapping them in Irrisen).

Basically, this replaces the assault on the Stag Lord's keep.

I think this is how I'm going to play it. They've just finished Mites/Kobolds and did a LOT of exploring in the top part so are level 3 already. I figure as they make their way south it's going to start to snow, which is weird for them because it's early summer, and have them discover that portal.

I'll make an NPC for a bit of a lore dump and to send them into the woods where it gets colder and colder, or maybe just use Jhod to make sure they're up to date for all that. I appreciate the suggestion it helped a lot!

So what do you guys think? They're all going to be level 4 after Kingmaker book 1 and I was wondering if there is a good path I can transition to which has a 2nd book that I could make work. Let me know please if there's anything you would recommend!

Does it have to be an Adventure Path? If so, geographical proximity would suggest Iron Gods, Carrion Crown, or Wrath of the Righteous, and of course Reign of Winter can begin anywhere. If you want fey themes, then of those Reign of Winter is your best bet by far.

Or, if you're not married to the starting locations of APs as written, you might consider transposing Ironfang Invasion into the Stolen Lands. There's fey aplenty.

Really just looking for ideas and these all sounds promising thank you! I'm going to dig in and research some of them to try and come up with a logical transition. Thanks again!

Hi All!

First time posting on the forums and first time GMing. I'm running Kingmaker with a group of new players and we're just about done with the first book in the adventure path.

The issue is, they're not really digging the open environment and sandbox exploration as much as I hoped they would. I also think as new players the kingdom management might not be as engaging as I'm looking for. (basically Kingmaker might not have been a great choice)

Because of that I'm wanting to transition to something different and am wondering if you all have any suggestions? In general I was thinking of sending them back to Restov where they are appointed ambassadors or something of the sort and doing doing a more urban adventure from here or maybe they're sent to a dungeon themed adventure etc.

So what do you guys think? They're all going to be level 4 after Kingmaker book 1 and I was wondering if there is a good path I can transition to which has a 2nd book that I could make work. Let me know please if there's anything you would recommend!

Thanks in advance for the help

TL:DR Chose kingmaker for new players and they aren't super into it, wanting to transition to a different adventure path and then return eventually to resolve some of the Fay foreshadowing I've been laying out.
