Background:
Of all the creatures to become tinkerers in alchemy, kobolds would seem to be one of the scarier options. And to a degree, this is true. Tiktik is not exactly a paragon of the magical sciences, but his work and dedication to the subject is one to be admired. Originally a member of the Rockclaw tribe, Tiktik was asked to leave after one too many accidents within his tribe's snarl resulted in near disastrous consequences. His traps were just as much a threat to the tribe as they were to intruders, and his lack of interest in making them didn't help either.
Forced onto his own, he found his more mundane creations seemed popular among the softer, bigger races, allowing him to make a modest living as a merchant and traveling alchemist. However, he is more interested in his draconic heritage, and after much study and delving into both books he's gotten his claws on, and many experimental dives into his own mind, he has hit pay dirt. Tiktik has managed to trace his blood lineage back to a common ancestor, a dragon, and the kobold believes that his current offspring may be living somewhere near the sleepy town of Belhaim. Spirits high and vigor renewed, Tiktik has happily set off to meet his blood cousin... unaware that his cousin, in fact, has been dead for quite some time.
Personality:
Tiktik is worryingly enthusiastic in his studies into alchemy. He believes the uncertain science is the key to unlocking his heritage and making him a true dragon. While he is proud of the blood that flows through him, he realizes it is too weak to claim proper dragonhood just yet. Thankfully, his work seems to demand the use of his own body as experimental stock, and shockingly, it has yielded some results. Already, he has unlocked some of the innate strength and bloodline abilities of his draconic cousins, and he believes further tinkering will bring him true dragon status.
Tiktik is a brilliant mind, but his personality leaves something to be desired. While keen and alert to most dangers, he fails to take into account the effects his work has on himself. Unfortunately (or perhaps, very thankfully), his own body seems unique to his studies. Perhaps it is his draconic lineage, or simply having experimented on himself one too many times, or (unthinkably) that his work might actually be yielding some fruit. Whatever that case, his mutagen power is potent, and lasts longer than even he anticipates - something he finds both perplexing and obvious. Clearly, he is making breakthroughs with his work. However, Tiktik loves to show off his results, which can make getting rid of him a bit challenging... or keeping him along easy to do.
In spites of his wide breadth of knowledge, both magical and chemical, Tiktik can be tough to get along with. He is demanding of things, though most of the things he wants seem dangerous, and one can almost swear that he lacks anything resembling a survival instinct. He is skeptical of things he cannot see or explain, dismissing what seems out or out of place as not important. Lastly, he has a fixation on anything shiny or resembling a gemstone, most likely harkening back to his draconic blood. The easiest way to placate his enthusiasm is to either bribe him with something shiny, or give him something to query for a while, which he tackles with great gusto. Tiktik loves puzzles as he sees them as exercises for his big brain to tackle. Plus the bragging rights when he finally solves it.
Despite his many flaws and somewhat unpredictable demeanor, Tiktik is a reliable ally and handy asset to have along. His love of knowledge means he usually has something to contribute and his constant experiments do yield some fasctinating (if worrisome) results. His will to prove his heritage true and attain dragonhood is admirable, and the bravery he displays in facing up to big challenges is remarkable.
