Yes, that was fun. Thank you Zoomba and fellow players. I hadn't played PbP or really any form of TTRPG in 2-3 years, and it was a nice reintroduction to PFS as well.

Thunderroot picks up the crumbs of the shard, looking for one particularly sharp piece that might function as a guitar pick.

Thunderroot's guitar scrapes against some of the runes, causing his work to be disrupted for a moment. They continue at it, laying on the lies while they do so. "Sometimes it takes longer to find the right components, but it's worth it in the end, you'll see."

"Yes, this is how to find the adder stone. Let me get it for you," Thunderroot lies, working to disable the monolith as the others advance.

Thunderroot nods in agreement, and begins mimicking the same tone and cadence that the crafter speaks with. "Yes. Adder stone. Must get it somehow. Will try to use find adder stone for us. May be close to monolith. Need to look underneath for more. Bring forest back to its glory indeed. One moment."

Sweat dripping from their brow or should I say dew, they advance on the monolith carefully, checking that their guitar is still in place.

Disrupt the monolith and play an appropriate banger while the others jump in to combat? Seems ... metal.

They lean in and try to sabotage the monolith's energy, recalling what they can about its occult nature.

Thunderroot picks off some fungus patches from their body and rearranges them, attempting to look similar to one of the almost-leshys that lie ahead. "I'm going to take a closer look."

Thunderroot also joins in examining the stones, recalling if he's seen anything resembling the complex writing before.

Armed with his guitar and sling, Thunderroot begins a rather depressing melody remniscient of 90s emo in some other world. "In tangled vines, where fears collide, against corrupted foes, our courage tried."

Inspired by their own song, they sling a stone at the scarecrow.

Yes, Thunderroot will continue to Search. I wonder how often the half speed penalty actually matters in PFS (versus a full campaign).

Thunderroot surveys the surroundings, noting the burned down trees, the thinning out of fauna, and the eerie silence. "I'd play a banger to liven up our travels, but I think that might just attract more corruption."

"Better for all if a safer salve is found. Yes? You understand?"

"It would be my hope that we don't have to needlessly destroy any more creatures of nature," Thunderroot nods. "If at all possible."

Afterwards, they pack up their things, strap their electric guitar to their back, and decline any bread, mushrooms, or smoked meat. The sun provides enough nourishment.

Thunderroot sways over to Cenenviel and tries to help sort through the notes, being mindful of the glances they are likely to get. "Don't be afraid of my vines, or of my colorful patches of fungi. See in me a denizen of the woods, akin to the ancient trees around us."

Jaldan

Thunderroot is relieved when they notice the group accepting Blainn's story, and so they decide to double down, taking out their guitar. "Gather around. I'll tell you the tale of Jaldan's bravery, if you'll give me but a minute with your ears." They're sensitive to the obvious hard looks, but hope to continue to win them over anyway.

"In the heart of the woods, where the flames once raged,
Stood a hero, steadfast - unafraid
Jaldan, the centaur with strength and might,
Saved your home from the fire's blight
Her courage unmatched, her spirit strong,
Let her name be praised in this woodland song"

Thunderroot makes their way over to Jaldan. "We're Pathfinders, and we hope to do everything we can to help you with what's happening here in the forest. Thank you for entrusting us to do so. Our poor trees..." The nature spirit casts a long, thoughtful look through the woods, before turning back to Jaldan. "Tell us, what does shaman training usually consist of?"

"We saw the glory of nature, but it was... tainted," Thunderroot sighs deeply. "Their insides were even flammable. Even just a few drops of sap lit up the forest. In your missive, you had written, Soon, the Child shall pass beneath the aegis of the Mother." They look up at the sky. "Is tonight the right time for us to help, and how do we help?"

Thunderroot sways over towards Clebsch. "You don't look so good. Hold still." They extend a vine towards Clebsch's shoulder, causing it to glow with energy.

Then they turn to the centaur. "So these must've been the mutated forest spirits you spoke of earlier. Poor things, yet wretched all the same. Somehow, their explosions did not seem to affect me or Hallow."

After the last creature falls, Thunderroot rushes over to the fire as well.

The green energy engulfs Thunderroot's hands, causing a momentary pause in their song.

"We'll take care of that fire soon. Bless these trees. I'd rather have my face melted by... this!" They start their guitar solo, their vine fingers blurred over their fretboard. Raising their sling, they fire a rock at red.

"So that's what you meant by metal," Thunderroot calls over to Hallow. "I had something else in mind." A grin on their face, they take the guitar from their back, set the gain way, way up, and start shredding a mix of power chords to complement the deformed creatures and burning forest.

Thunderroot breathes a deep sigh of relief as the sun filters into their body, nourishing them. "I feel right at home here. I'm from the Verdant Reach, a small, unassuming forest with winding streams and lush trees, though I haven't been back in many years. I was part of a band back then, and we would put on small performances for any travelers who may have stopped by. I miss those days, sometimes." They look around their surroundings as the group travels on.

Thunderroot will Search

"It would be pretty metal to be able to hop from body to body," Thunderroot ponders aloud. "But that's just me. That these leshys have become violent and arsonous isn't normal, and I do think we can help. How do we get to the Redpine camp?"

They remember Urwal's missive, and show it to the centaur. "And does this passage about constellations mean anything to you?"

Oof, I misread that - thought the kids just took an apple, not an apple and a satchel. I'll edit my post.

"Lately people've been spotting dead animals walking about with fungi spread all over them, a moss covered skull creeping about with vines and even some gourds sloshing full of bloodpine sap! Some of the latter flung themselves at a couple of the buildings in town a week back, sparked a bad fire. It ain't normal I tells ya! Imagine those horsefolk in the woods've got it even worse if something's off."

Thunderroot looks at the fungus patches all over their body, then shrugs. "Not sure I'd call it an affliction, personally."

Later on, when the group approaches the centaur, Thunderroot offers an idea. "Maybe we can exchange one of Welby's famous muffins for your apple and satchel. Surely a child would rather eat a muffin than an apple? And what's in the satchel anyway that a child would like? Satchels are boring, muffins are tasty! What do you think, Welby?" Thunderroot finds a good spot in Salia's inn and takes out their guitar. "The best way to make people gather is to put on a performance worth watching. Then it'll be even easier to ask around. Though... I will keep it on the softer side, today." They start strumming a simple melody consisting of a few chords.

"Evil magic?" Thunderroot ponders. "With that, and the sense of urgency to Urwal's note, it sounds like we should make quickly for Salia's, and see if we can find the shaman Jaldan."

I can read up on Leshy's, but I'd rather know from the players what led to their individual paths to be Pathfinders, since I presume it is not a common thing.

I hear ya. We just traveled to a settlement, so it's not unreasonable to assume the party got to know each other along the way.

I usually try to share bits and pieces of my PC's backstory as the party moves through the scenario, rather than dropping it all at once. Feels more organic that way.

"I'm not sure about flesh and flower, I tend to have more experience with metal and flower."

At Hallow's quip, Thunderroot's face twists into a smile. They reach back and tap their guitar. "Metal, huh. I like the sway of your branches."

Arriving at Mishkar, Thunderroot takes a look ahead and takes in the town-under-construction, fascinated. "Sorry, everyone, I'm still dumbfounded by that missive, despite my best attempts to recall something."

They take out their guitar and look over at Bláinn, then Thunderroot looks down at their skull "tattoo." "If you ever want to give your hands a shred on this fretboard, I think it would look positively in-metal-ble."

I promise I'll keep the puns to a minimum

Thunderroot rubs their skull tattoo, the vines on their face contracting into deep thought. "Flesh and flower flow together...?" they echo, trying to recall what they might. "It sounds familiar while also at the same time sounding strange. What do you think, Hallow?" The leshy looks over at the other plant spirit.

Recall Knowledge with Occultism +3 (T)

A diminutive creature composed of tangled moss and vines enters, their movements sprightly and graceful. Colorful patches of fungal moss adorn their body, and a black tattoo-like patch on the creature's arm of a skull is hard to go unnoticed. Their mouth is a small, curved slit, reminiscent of a smile, framed by delicate tendrils of moss that sway gently, and their eyes gleam like polished emeralds.

On their back is a well-worn electric guitar. "Good to meet you all," the creature smiles, their voice ethereal-sounding. "You can call me Thunderroot!" They throw out their "hand", their finger vines twisting to form the sign of the horns.

Hi! I haven't played on PbP in likely a year or so, though I was years ago very active on the boards.

I've just rolled a new character, and with the Remaster out, I'm a little lost in terms of equipment. Normally, I'd purchase a kit, but I don't know if those are still current or not.

Does anyone have any guidance for equipment? If not, I have a few old PbP friends I will ask, but I thought I would ask here first.
