There have been two sessions since the last post. One almost entirely combat and one almost entirely roleplaying.

Both were good. As most of the party are West Coasters, and I am an East Coaster, sometimes I loose mental capacity toward the end of the sessions.

In the first session we returned to our estate and found it to be overrun by Ogres (at least one with class levels) and a Kobold Sorcerer. We tried to use an illusion to initiate the battle on our own terms and were only partially successfull.

Eventually we did overcome the enemies and get much treasure as a result! Yay Magic items!

Then in the next session we put our estate back to rights and went into town to do some shopping and we dealth with an exiled elven mage of some sort who dropped a slew of adventure hooks on us.

Our DM recapped our discussed options in a recap as follows:
1. There are rumors of Civil war in the Frost Weald. Some how the gnome Hoppletop is involved with the leader of the rebel faction, and had been asked to deliver a package from Thyn Pellath (a ranking member of the Magocracy) to the Frost Weald.
2. The sea trade business suffering from a large amount of raids from fish-men outside the headwaters of the Kulash river (the river running through XeThor.
3. Gravin heard a story from his Father that claims there may be a gate located in a dwarven complex somewhere deep in the mountains north of Geyser.

Additional things currently on your "To Do" list.
1. Secure the estate, possibly by exploring the environs surrounding it and divesting it of any threats that have established a settlement.
2. Finish moving family and friends to it.
3. Obtaining you're money and cargo from the Wavebreakers Pride
4. Destroy the well of Lust in the Beldean jungle.

So do any of those sound exciting?

I wrote a song about the exiled elf guy and posted it to the campaign site. (Filking to Talking Heads)

I am interested in Destroy the Well of Lust in the Beldean jungle and then going after the gate/well in the mountains North of Geyser. I am a simple person, I sing, I dance, I help close gotes to evil planes of existence...

Oh, and filking was in full effect.

So we had another session. (See recap on the campaign site if you are interested in the nitty gritty.) I survived another session due to heavy roleplay and managed not to demonstrate total combat suck --so the group still thinks I am useful!

Once they find out my primary damage is 1d4-1 they will be sorry they asked the Bard to hang out! ;-)

We followed up on some clues and continue to investigate how to close off the abyssal portals we have found that lead mere mortals down a path to ruination.

Apparently we need some god... *ahem* essense... to, uh, close out the intra-planar hole-age. (I am paraphrasing a priest here so don't judge me too harshly.)

Naturally, we are forcing our cleric to beseech her patron for some holy essence to get the job done. Stay tuned!

My character is Kindle who is new to the campaign. A Light Ihn (new campaign specific race, kinda like a halfling Assimar) Bard. Kindle is close, role-playing wise, to Elan from OOTS in terms of optimism and being outgoing. Hopfully he will prove to be more competent and useful in encounters.

I am trying to include songs in role playing but I am not much of a composer so most of what I do is rip off old 80's songs (insight into my age clearly) that are appropriate (sometimes only very tenuously appropriate) to a situation. (Example, I indicated I was singing "Simply the Best" to inspire conpetence for a rogue making an Open Locks check. --Thanks to Tina Turner)

Out of session we are role playing via email and I indicated to one of the players I was Inspiring Competence and she thought I was going to quote "Every Breath You Take" by the Police and substitute Search for Breath.

Here was my effort to give that suggestion legs (Posted in the journal section of the campaign site):

(Sung to Every Breath you Take by the Police --Amber's idea)

Every Bluff you make
Every Move you take
A Device you break
Every Climb you take
I'll be aiding you

Every single day
Even in Melee
Dressing for a play
Perception you say?
I'll be aiding you

Oh, can't you see
Your skills are belong to me
How my poor heart aches
When competence is faked

Every Search you make
When it's 10 you take
Need stealth like a snake?
Intimidate at stake
I'll be aiding you

Since you've gone you've been lost without a trace
I dream at night that your ranks are a disgrace
I look around but its you that can't Appraise
I feel so stuck when your Artist can't Escape
I keep inspirin' baby, baby, please...

Oh, can't you see
Your skills are belong to me
How my poor heart aches
When competence is faked

Every check you make
You need a rebate
Every ride you make
Swimmin across a lake
I'll be aiding you

Found a magic rake?
Not quick on the uptake?
I'll be aiding you

I'll be aiding you
I'll be aiding you
I'll be aiding you
I'll be aiding you...

*******

So far, I am enjoying playing a bard more than I thought I would but I have not had the opportunity to totally suck in combat yet.

Fun campaign.

Everything I have heard is all wrong. Bards, as it turns out, are really cool and borderline overpowered. ;-)

"ECOLOGY OF THE TROLL
These bestial eating machines are as close to unkillable as it gets.
By Paul Leach"

Where in Tokens of Faith is the alternative holy symbol for Luck? Rabbits foot? Lucky Coin?

Looking forward to the third installment.

Best of Dragon, gold cover.

Alternate 1st edition monks, intro of the demihuman gods, alchemist, Gem dragons, the Archer.... That issues was pretty amazing back in the day.

I wish you would bring back the Best of Dragon yearly anthologies. They were pretty awesome in general.

TA

That's surprising.

Thanks Mike,

I have really liked the Todd Harris artwork. Soft features. Nice attention to detail.

Are the upcoming Dragon ecologies posted anywhere?

I see Duergar and Kobolds, but it might be nice to know what is coming out if you see any monsters that might be making an appearance in your game you could time things to get the benefit of the article.

Thanks!
