M Patrol Guard

I'll keep checking the threads now and then, if that's the case - but PM whenever I'm needed just in case!

M Patrol Guard

That was a lot of fun! What now then?

Vivian

Fate: Sounds like I worked towards my goal without accomplishing it, so there's one. I wouldn't say her instinct ever came up, but Vivian was tenacious even when sick or being flung around by a snake, so I'd argue she played her belief and gave her best for a total of two.

Persona: I miss out on accomplishing my goal, and I didn't ever play against my belief, so no Persona there. I made a good effort of playing Vivian as sick though, so I'd make a case for being the Embodiment for one. (Fun fact: I was gonna throw in a piece about Vivian puking from exertion after the fight with the snake, but I left it out after a quick bit of research told me that rodents can't puke. Which I guess is why poison works so well on rats and such.)

George
Fate: George definitely accomplished his goal, so he can't get Fate for that. I could tell RP-wise that George tried to play his instinct with wanting to delay in Barkstone, and I think that trying to drive the snake away was acting on his belief, but I see a little ambiguity on both of those fronts, so one or two sounds about right.

Persona: Vivian's alive and definitely more experienced now, so George accomplished his goal for sure. I think George got MVP too; he filled the role of leader well, and at every decision fork, I feel we followed his guidance. So I'd say two.

Thom
Fate: I feel Thom accomplished his goal (though Hama may feel differently), so no Fate for that. Thom definitely played his instinct and jumped at every chance to prove his worth. His belief never really came into play, so I'd say one Fate for Thom.

Persona: Again, I'm pretty sure George trusts Thom, so he accomplished his goal. Thom also seemed to have the right skills and great rolls, whether he was examining the dead animal, fighting the snake, or fixing up George's...

I agree with almost all this, especially about Vivian and her embodiment.

My only interjection; whether or not George now trusts Thom is up to George to declare! If not, I believe that Thom definitely went out of his way to try and earn George's trust.

Okidoke

M Patrol Guard

Well I am desperate to succeed! I am invoking both Determined and I am tapping nature! And also using my bag of herbs (I assume this isn't just a one use item but if so, that's okay - I do NOT want to lose this check!)

Healing George's eye with Healer 3 + Nature 4 + Determined 1 + Bag of Herbs 1: 3d6 + 4d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1) + (1, 3, 6, 5) + (5) + (1) = 28

M Patrol Guard

Is the taxing permanent? I feel like I've asked you this before but I couldn't find it in my (brief) search through our pages.

If not, I will do that!

M Patrol Guard

Is there anything else I can invoke on this check? I REALLY want to make sure I pass to save his damn eye haha! My rolls have not been great.

M Patrol Guard

Damn, that's dangerous. Either of you want me to risk it to help you?

M Patrol Guard

"What do we do?" Thom asks, waiting 'til George clearly calms down.

I'm angry too, right? Would I be able to use my herbs to tend to either Vivian or George, at the expense of my Anger?

M Patrol Guard

In hushed tones, Thom speaks to George as he carries him through the town.

"How do we find our contact, sir?

M Patrol Guard

"Sir!" Thom yells, immediately rushing to the patrol leader's side, watching to ensure the snake was retreating.

Would my bag of herbs and medical knowledge help in this instance?

M Patrol Guard

Thom pulls his spear into his left paw, drawing his sword with his right, and starts wailing on the nearest patch of snakeskin. "Hyaaah!"

M Patrol Guard

George - Attack!
Vivian - Defend!
Thom - Attack!

M Patrol Guard

Thom yells incoherently, gesturing to the other two to flank the beast while he tries to get it's attention entirely.

"Hey! HEY! Watch me, you better watch me, or I'm taking yer eyes out!"

Hunter 4 + Vivian + George: 4d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 1) + (4) + (5) = 23

M Patrol Guard

[b]Thom[/], panicking slightly, Tries to take a defensive position besides George and Viv, thrusting his spear up at the snake's head when it gets close.

M Patrol Guard

Thom tries to jump atop the snake, forcing his spear into it's scales to leverage him up. Drawing his sword, he uses it as another pick to stab into the snake's scales to distract it long enough to allow George to escape it's coils.

M Patrol Guard

George - Attack
Vivian - Defend
Thom - Feint

M Patrol Guard

I say we leave weapons til next time!

Thom makes jabbing motions with his spear, trying to scare the snake into retreating.

M Patrol Guard

Bugger!

M Patrol Guard

Thom gets unsteadily back to his feet, and sees that the snake has regained some ground. After taking a deep breath, he charges forward, yelling. Once he's close enough, Thom starts side stepping around near the snake's head, jabbing his spear upwards towards it, in an attempt to drive it back.

"Hyah! Hyah! Away you horrible beast!"

Hunter 4 + Vivian 1 + George 1: 4d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 2) + (4) + (2) = 13

M Patrol Guard

Thom - Attack
George - Feint
Vivian - Defend

M Patrol Guard

Of course!

"Drive it back into the underbrush!" Thom hisses, trying not to get the snake's attention while George was trying to distract it.

M Patrol Guard

"Now's the time to strike! Good going, Viv!" Thom yells, Lunging ever forward, taking this opportunity to drive his spear through the snake's scales, and pull out and strikes in a new area.

M Patrol Guard

This is for my attack roll btw:

Hunter 4 + 1 (Viv) + 1 (George): 4d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 1) + (6) + (6) = 24

If I need to roll to trigger my Bold trait for the current round of Defence, go ahead and roll for me GM to progress this along.

M Patrol Guard

I assumed it was defend flavour - hence why my attack might allow me to use my Bold trait to tip this turn in our favour

M Patrol Guard

Thom had hung himself low, aware of how the snake was preparing itself to strike at him. When George caught it's attention, Thom lunges forward to sink his spear through the snake's scales.

Am I able to use Bold to win us the action? Do I roll for that?

M Patrol Guard

Defend: Vivian
Attack: Thom
Feint: George

Are they all your skills, Viv? I couldn't find anything related to the battle other than Nature so I had to put you down for defend, even though George would be better at that.

M Patrol Guard

I assume this is what you meant. Also my rolls are horrible.

M Patrol Guard

Hunter 4 + Vivian + George: 6d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 6, 3, 3) = 18

M Patrol Guard

"Blast! We need to drive it off the road, lest it attacks another poor traveller!" Thom yells, dropping low as he readies his weapon against the snake.

As much as I'd like to run, I feel like this would be Thom's duty as a Patrol Guard

M Patrol Guard

I believe determined comes into play - I am determined to prove myself to my new patrol!

M Patrol Guard

Dammit!

M Patrol Guard

Of Course!: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6) = 11

M Patrol Guard

oh dear, can I spend Persona to invoke 'Of Course!', GM?

M Patrol Guard

Alright so with their help, I'm rolling the following:

Heal 3 + 1 (Vivian) + 1 (George): 3d6 + 1d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4) + (1) + (4) = 13

M Patrol Guard

So I'd roll using Healer (3) and do something to boost my roll. Regarding persona, do we start each adventure with a set amount and regain them upon completion of the adventure? Same goes with fate points, they're slightly confusing.

Regarding the potential tool, could it be something like using my sword to poke around in the wounds of the bird?

Sorry, just need some hand holding as to my options, the persona/fate point/nature taxing stuff is rather daunting

M Patrol Guard

Okay, I guess I'll try to use my medicine-wise to solve this conundrum! How do I go about doing that, GM?

M Patrol Guard

"I could try and examine the... substantial wounds. But i'm more versed in medicines and their applications with mice." Thom says, looking around warily.

M Patrol Guard

"'Course sir, I'll take a look and compare it to my own copy. How old is it?" Thom says as he retakes his seat, giving Viv another attempt at a smile. "You should get some rest, Lass. You'll need all your strength these next few days."

M Patrol Guard

Figured as much, haha, but RP-wise it makes sense!

"Perhaps Viv is right, sir. Our duty comes first, as always." Thom says mournfully, before finishing the last of his broth. He gives Vivian a worried smile and prepares to leave for bed.

M Patrol Guard

After the apprentice leaves the table, Thom gives Vivian a worrying look. "I don't think it's wise, risking you getting even sicker, Vivian. You're already shivering like it's the dead of winter."

M Patrol Guard

Thom lowers his voice, wary of the other patrons in the inn.
"So, are we expecting trouble, sir? I can't imagine we'd be sent out on this trip otherwise."

M Patrol Guard

Thom's mood was sour since Vivian had struggled in the stream. He felt incredibly guilty for not volunteering in her place, and it didn't feel right that she was the one who had to suffer.
"So, what are our orders?" Thom asked quietly at the table of the inn. He also gestured at one of the innkeeper staff member, and said "maybe we can try and get some extra blankets for Viv?"

M Patrol Guard

Thom also grabs the end of the rope next to George to help steady the damn thing for the tenderpaw's descent.

M Patrol Guard

Thom grows worried at the thought of the young tenderpaw being sent down there. It's not a task he'd wish upon himself, no doubt. He remembered being a tenderpaw, and the eagerness to please your seniors. Not all those memories were pleasant. He still had the occasional night-terror.

"I'll help as much as I can, Viv. Good luck down there. If it gets too dangerous, don't be afraid to give up! No shame in that. We can pull you back up. Right, sir?"

M Patrol Guard

Thom shrugs at George's question.

"'Fraid not, sir. What do you have in mind?" Thom says, aware of the tenderpaw's suggestion being ignored by the Patrol Leader. "Vivian makes a good case though, not that I'm keen on us being split up however."

M Patrol Guard

Spring worried Thom each and every year. His entire profession rested upon his ability to follow Maps, but the treachery of winter always gave him trouble, and this constantly made him feel like he was useless.

Studying his map carefully, he begins to fret. "This is a perilous situation, no doubt. I don't fancy myself a great swimmer, nor would I think myself the best at repairing that bridge - but this path between Barkstone and Pebblebrook is an important one; if we don't fix this, it'll end up as someone else's problem." Thom says to the others. He looks particularly to his Patrol Leader for a response. "So what do we do? It's possible I could find us another route, but this is not guaranteed and it'll likely keep us out in the wild past sundown."

M Patrol Guard

No worries, take it easy!

M Patrol Guard

Thom's goal is to earn the trust of his new Patrol Leader, George

Is that good?

M Patrol Guard

Thom gestures to his packed satchels. "Indeed! Where are we headed? And for what purpose?" Thom says, grabbing his belongings and closing the door behind him as he joined the others in the hall.
