About Theadora ArnisantBackground, Told Through Her Letter to the Pathfinder Society:
Dear Pathfinder Society, Greetings to whomever this concerns. I am writing to you from the city of Westcrown, my home, and I am sure you know that discretion is required in such circumstances as mine. There is a former lodge of yours here, Delvehaven, and I think you will be interested in what I have to say on it. My name is Theadora Arnisant, the rather dramatic name that I study opera and the performing arts under. In actuality, my last name is Crassina, a name shared with my grandmother, Este Crassina, who you should recognize from your Wall of Names as one of the head chroniclers at Delvehaven when it was shuttered. It has been extraordinarily difficult to find answers to what happened both due to state repression that makes the questions themselves illegal to ask and due to not knowing my grandmother or mother myself, I cannot even ask them. All I have of them is a worthless pewter locket that will not even open. The orphanage I was raised in was of no help either. I was only able to find out this much by breaking into the offices and stealing the forms my mother filled out from their files and following that lead as far as it can go with my looks and wits, which is not an inconsiderable amount. I know it might seem odd to have a stranger admit so casually to crimes in a letter, but when merely sending the letter itself could get me hanged, I see no point in playing coy. And you in the Pathfinder Society are hardly opposed to such methods, correct? In a way, you can consider this letter a testimony to my qualifications for what I am about to ask. I have had a hard life as an orphan of Westcrown, but I have survived and even thrive now, thanks to good luck, a voice people think sounds nice, and being clever enough to know how and when to be discrete. I know my way around a blade, and I am motivated. I am an 18 year old woman full of outrage, after all. I want to investigate the Delvehaven Lodge and uncover its secrets with your blessing and support. I know this city better than anyone you could possibly send, and there is no reason for anyone to suspect me. All I care about is learning the history of my family and finding what in that lodge has Thrune so scared. This may shock you, but I do not care for our rulers here much, and I would be pleased to hit at them in whatever way I can. Any information I find will go back to you. And I am sure you would appreciate leverage for getting back into Cheliax. At least on official channels. I await your reply,
PS: if you are a Thrune oppressor and you see this because you intercepted it, I hope you live a long life in which you accomplish nothing, are loved by no one, and burn in the hellfires you serve when you die. In the words of every child at Miss Mancini’s Orphanage: eat me. Personality:
Theadora is kind above all. She learned early that the way you survive is you look out for each other, and that when you treat people well, they want to treat you well in return. Especially when you are pretty and charming. She is a romantic and a flirt and loves both playing the dashing scoundrel and the demure lady. She has had her share of exploits with the women around Westcrown, but she has yet to find anyone she felt comfortable settling down with. Because her talents come easy and natural to her, she places little value in herself, and she actually struggled for days to push herself to write the letter to the Pathfinder Society not because she was worried about the danger, but because she struggles to describe herself in the flattering terms she needed to in order to convince the Pathfinders she is qualified. Some of said qualifications are mildly exaggerated—her knowledge of combat, weapons and armor are more related to stage training than anything—but she felt it necessary to get the Pathfinders’ support. She has spent her whole life playing a balancing act, learning how to appease, please and avoid notice from those around her while still holding true to her principles. She never trusted the Infernal Authorities much, but finding out who her grandmother was made her realize she owes all of her difficulties directly to Thrune expelling the Pathfinders, so she will do whatever she can to chip away at their power. She likewise has little care for nobles or the rich unless they otherwise distinguish themselves as good and kind people. However, as she knows better than most what it is like to claw up from nothing and grows weary of the struggle, she does secretly fantasize about a rich woman of means courting her and taking care of her. Appearance:
Theadora’s rich dark brown hair and olive complexion are unblemished and fine, her long legs and statuesque proportions—at 6’ without heels—and her enchanting voice that dances between seductive and playful are what people first notice about her, and that is all intentional. She is actually incredibly self-conscious of her broad shoulders and musculature and takes pains to hide or minimize those features. Everyone assumed she was male when she was born and she still is self-conscious about those features that still get read as masculine. Years back, she was able to get her hands on a full course of Mullibrous Tincture which helped with her dysphoria immensely, but the memories of cruelty from other children at the orphanage still leaves her feeling vulnerable. That she is half-Varisian also causes her grief amongst those who care enough about such things to recognize her discrete kapenia and her features. She dresses with a practical black leather flat cap and black linen jacket and trousers with gold-colored lining, unbuttoned just enough to show some distracting cleavage. For more upscale wear, she prefers form-fitting red dresses.
