Quixotai du Saffronc, Knight of the Sword
Spoiler: Over the years, many have claimed that Ignorance is Bliss. Of course, those who spout such simple ways of expressing the World rarely have to live with amnesia. Quixotai, unfortunately (Or perhaps not...),does. Some people, when confronted with something so all-encompassing as being unable to even recall your real name, or where you are from...Some people might see that as a clean slate, a license to do ill, with no regrets or need for remorse. The man who wears the moniker The Yellow Knight, however, takes a different road. Though he remembers virtually nothing prior to the last seven years, he does know, deep down, that he was, that he is a Good man. So,with nothing else to guide him, he has made it his Quest to right wrongs, defeat the enemies of decent folk wherever, or whatever they may be. Astride his fearsome Axebeak (Epiphany), he lays about into Fiends, Dragons, the very Gods of Evil themselves! At least, that is what he believes. For you see, the man known as The Yellow Knight is also quite, quite Mad. Whilst no form of Divinations, both Arcane and Divine, have been able to ascertain just what caused his Madness, or indeed, why no attempt at Healing it has been successful, (These endeavors undertaken by his Companions over the years...Quixotai himself is quite happy to continue in his Quest Against Evil), still, some day, something might break the condition...A familiar face, a place, perhaps, something as innocent as a Sign-Post, even.
It was nearly five years ago when he first spotted the Red Knight. Amongst a tribe of Orc who had raided a small village. Quixotai had heard the screams of the fleeing humans, and spurred Epiphany forward, only to find a pitched battle between the defending villagers, and a band of Orcs. And there, amongst the Orcs was a Knight clad in bright Red armor. While he did not know this Knight, the same could not be said for the reverse. Immediately, the Red knight, astride a massive Dire Wolf, Charged.
The encounter with the second Knight was a year later, whilst embarked upon a campaign to rid a forest of a Goblin Infestation. The Knight , clad in slate-grey armor, was waiting at a bridge ford, as if he expected Quixotai.
The third Knight has only been spotted, not fought in combat. Clad in armor a dark, midnight blue, he rode upon the winds, mounted upon a huge bat, soaring high and seemingly not concerned with his land-bound brethren. Quixotai spurred Epiphany on,across fields and through hills, never losing sight of the flying Knight. Finally, cresting a hill, he saw the quickly diminishing figure of the Blue Knight receding, impossibly, towards some sort of weird flying fortress... His resolve firm, the Yellow Knight clicked his spurs, and off his steed went, towards what could possibly be the answer to just who or what he really was.

Correct me if you play it differently, but Rich Parents replaces your starting cash at 1st, it doesn't just give a 900GP bonus. Just as we don't get 5th WBL + Starting 1st Lvl,you wouldn't get the Rich Parents bonus at higher Lvls anyways.

Spoiler:
Quixotai wears fully encompassing plate armor, painted a bright Yellow color. Stealth is not exactly his Forte. Astride a fierce Axebeak, itself a mix of greens and blue feathers (With bright yellow plumage, from whence Quixotai plucks his helmet plumes...not at an insignificant risk to fingers, one might add...), he paints an almost comical, yet deadly picture. Armed with lance and blade, hammer and even an exquisite composite longbow (A gift from an Elven village for his aid in saving them from a tribe of Ogres), he goes about armed to the teeth. His shield, is likewise bright Yellow (Brighter even than the armor, if that is possible...), decorated only with a stylized Axebeak head. What gear he carries within his saddlebags is the usual sort of mundane assortment, rope and hook, food and water. All except for one item of note. A small Gnomish Clockwork toy, a musical box. Companions have remarked that he can sometimes be found sitting astride his steed, winding it again and again, the tiny thing producing some obscure little musical fantasy. When like this, he seems lost to the World...Perhaps remembrance of who he was, or of something lost? No matter, when danger calls,he is once again ready to thwart it. The strange, the out-of-place, the extremely garish...Yellow Knight.
Mannerisms and Personality
Spoiler:
Friendly and impeccably polite, chivalrous and kind, these things are the hallmarks of a Knight dedicated to the cause of Good. These things are what one expects from a Scion of the Higher Powers. These things...are not exactly the mannerisms of Quixotai du Saffronc. True, he is a Goodly-Natured man, and yes, he does try to be polite, but...Did we not mention that he was quite Mad!?! First off, the man spouts Limericks. Yes, Limericks...In the middle of battle...as he is Challenging his Foes. Gods, even in answer to the simplest of questions from his companions. Some days, he speaks in nothing but Limericks. I am a Scholar of the Poem in it's varied form. I have spouted Limericks, and verse of all sorts..I have studied the haiku of the distant East, riddle and rhyme, but never have I met another so...so solid in their unflinching use of Limericks. Honestly, it is often quite infuriating. Here is an example. Mind you, I had only asked where we were heading next, a very pertinent query, given our situation at the time (Hunted by a Chimera in some damned Woods, far South of here) I asked 'Good Sir du Saffronc, might I inquire just what our plan is, as I fear the monster is fast approaching. Shall we flee, or set an ambush? I fear that it may make of us a meal this day. And to me, to that most simple of questions, he answered 'Indeed we must encounter this Beast Fortune favoring us,at the very Least I think that we shall Prevail This most Dire Travail And avoid becoming it's most recent Feast.' I mean... in a situation like that, a simple 'Poncho, you hide in the boulders with your crossbow ready, and I shall charge it as it comes around the corner...' would have been a sight more useful and calming of my frayed nerves, to say the least... We won, but I swear, my travels with that man were both...interesting and the cause of a stress unlike any I have encountered before, barring escaping certain boudoirs in certain Noble Districts, but that is another tale,Friend.' My Inspiration Spoiler: As I mentioned, I loved (Love? I haven't played it in years) Joust. Recently, I had created a Yellow, Blue , Red and Grey Knight in Hero Labs to use in a RL campaign. Not wanting to overshadow the PCs with my DMPC, I shelved the Yellow Knight for a bit...until I spotted your Thread. I actually spout Limericks in real life, have ,in the past, had characters do it(As well as th Faeries in my Kingmaker Campaign), and thought that it would be fun to work into a Mad character's Mannerisms. I envision him as a rather strange cross between the actual Don Quixote and Baron Münchhausen...Not the bragging, but the assurance that impossible things only require enough belief. The Knights (Red,Grey,Blue), taken from the Joust game, could become NPC enemies for you to use, or...they might be figments of his imagination. Honestly, poor Quixotai will probably never know the difference. Having him upon a flying mount (Not that Ostriches fly...) would have been fun, if a bit beyond Lvl 5, but an Axebeak was a good alternative. Anyways,I hope that you see some way to include him in your game. Sounds quite fun, and you can be assured. The Yellow Knight will meet all foes with weapon in hand, a Limerick upon his lips and his sanity quite out the window. |
