Welcome, and please dot! When you post, please post a short description of the class you'd like to use. We are starting at level 7, 9, or 10. Post your opinions on that as well.

Welcome! Before we begin, we're going to discuss a bit about the setting and our characters for a bit. I have picked you based on your level choices (we're starting at level 7), your classes, and your overall attitudes! =P Anyway, please dot and live bookmark this, if possible.

Have you considered Becoming a Demon instead? It'll take awhile but a fun goal in a evil 1v1 game and plenty powerful to boot.
Didn't know that was possible, thanks! However, my character is Lawful Evil, and I don't enjoy playing Chaotic Evil. Is there a way to become a Devil or Daemon?

Tacticslion wrote: Of course, if dying is all it takes to get out of such an area, a non-lich has it easier than a lich - they're far "softer" and can sepukku themselves right out of there. Good luck finding a way to whack yourself with a magic rock in a dead magic zone, lich. This. Since you mentioned the projection thing, it's actually very hard to catch me even in bad situations. As a normal human, I could just stab a dagger through my chest or something, and my projection's 'cord' would quickly come back and I could just cast the spell again. Liches take a lot to kill, so I couldn't do that as a lich. Gotta be prepared for everything.

Paulicus wrote: Limited Wish could remove negative levels by replicating a Restoration spell. Good point. If used in a timeless plane, could I use it twice, since a week doesn't exist in the plane? Also, just realized I can't use Blood Money if I'm a lich. Yeah, maybe I won't go for lichdom...

Tacticslion wrote: By the way - nothing that I'd recommend is any kind of deep, dark secret that only the initiated should know - it's moderately common knowledge in many circles, and it's even been organized in a few different places. You could, hypothetically, find it just by looking.
But I also wouldn't mind explaining it, if you'd like.
Bear in mind, it may bring out accusations of munchkin, or power-gamer, or whatsoever have you - that... that's a thing some people do.
EDIT: for clarity
This is for a 1-on-1 Evil campaign, so I'm going to get a lot of enemies. I've looked into the spells a bit more and it's definitely interesting and strong. I think I understand most of it but there's a couple things I don't that I'd like some explaining for.
Can your Astral Projection move inside your plane while the plane is under Time Stop? This is interesting to me because this seems like the only way to get the gold for spells and books for learning. As well, if I die (The cord of my projection is cut) and I'm thrown into a clone, does Time-Stop end? Also, if I die in this way or my projection bites it, what are some ways to remove the pesky negative levels? Thanks again, and I understand, but my wizard really does want to get to those levels of power, and nothing's gonna stop him. :P

... ooooooooooohhhhhhhh, you mean as a player character!
Right! That changes everything!
In that case: no.
Slightly edited for my convenience.
TheIronGiant6 wrote: Hello! I'm running an evil wizard (And am posting about it a lot. Have a lot of questions :P) and was wondering your opinions of the Lich. There's quite a few things to love about it, including immortality, all the nice undead immunities, a natural armor bonus (meaning huge AC's for wizards now, weehee), DR, a nice +2 to all three mental scores, and loads of resistances. Plus, you can't be killed unless your phylactery is destroyed.
However, being undead can be difficult in many different ways. While you just sort of minded your own business in your dark tower before, now every clergyman and adventurer across the continent is at your door. More undead for your army, but still. You can be controlled, though it is difficult. You are also rotting, and need an alter self spell every so often to keep yourself from looking like a corpse. You draw quite a bit of attention to yourself and though you have gained quite a few immunities, you have gained quite a few glaring weaknesses to holy water, positive energy, and spells that target the undead.
My question is if lichdom is worth it for wizards, and if it is, how do you get around those weaknesses? Getting first in initiative is likely, but not guaranteed. Even if you contingency yourself outta there, you will have to deal with the lich hunt eventually. Opinions?
No, it's not.
That said, I can see the appeal.
Let's go over your pros and cons together.

TheIronGiant6 wrote: There's quite a few things to love about it, including immortality, all the nice undead immunities, a natural ... Well thought out and explained answer, thanks! My character is going to be trying to build an empire and become the richest person and most powerful person alive. (Or most powerful 'thing' if he goes the lich or worm that walks route) So by the time he would start considering immortality, which is rather soon as he is human, he would likely have quite a bit of money on his hands. Would you mind explaining in a bit more detail how you'd do the demiplane projection route? I'm new to high level wizardry and the way you explained it seems very interesting and pretty unstoppable. How would I get gold and books and such from the Material Plane and bring it to my 'real' character if the plane is under permanent time stop? Thanks!

Playing a paranoid mid-level wizard. What tips do you guys have for how to pre-plan combat and how to build lairs or bases that are very hard to enter by anyone but the wizard? If he enters combat alone, how do you avoid taking damage while still being able to cast, and would summoning creatures be worth the risk of being a sitting duck for an entire turn?
