The Gryphoenix has the build of a classic griffon, with leonine hindquarters and aquiline forequarters, though on a much more massive scale. Its coloration is rather like the embers of a fire, coal-black laced with reds and oranges that actually shimmer and shift as if the creature were actually burning. This effect is enhanced by the wisps of flame that leak from its nostrils and form around its talons.

Background

The end product of The Master's experiments into "Digestion by Combustion", the creature known as the Gryphoenix is actually a being of flesh and blood, in spite of its appearance. It does, however, have a body temperature sufficient to make most materials combust. It actually literally feeds off of flames, gaining sustenance by burning food in its stomach. This process leaves the creature almost constantly hungry, however, as it tends to burn through its food quickly leaving its stomach empty.

It's actually a fairly friendly creature, and more intelligent than it seems. The fact that it tends to set fire to things it gets near to and that it views anything on fire as a food source rather curtails its efforts to make friends, however.
