Two favourite memories.
First memory, we're 2nd level and commisioned to protect a caravan. During our trip, a local bandit rings previous escapades had been very successful and they had gathered a lot of wealth. Which they used to hire a wizard, when they ambushed us everything was going fine until the wizard showed up and threw a fireball. Our monk, had readied an action the previous round to catch any arrows fired at the driver. (I know you cant actually do that, but the gm lets stuff like that slide). The monk sees the fireball bead flying toward us, his readied action goes off, he jump kicks the bead and it goes off before its close to the caravan. He rolls a 20 on his reflex save, takes no damage.
2nd memory
I was playing a dwarf paladin and we found this old black tree in the middle of the dungeoun. I detected evil, and lo and behold the center of the tree was "overwhelming evil" so we cut into the tree and found a black acorn the size of a human heart. I was suggested we destroy it, so I hit it with my spare axe. My axe shattered and I took the damage of the swing. A small crack appeared in the acorn though. So I pulled out my +2 adamantine holy dwarven waraxe. My paladin, refered to as his "holiest of beard trimmers" and swung with all my might, Rolled a 20,the acorn exploded, my axe explodes, and I roll a 1 on my reflex save. Boom, dead as a doornail. The acorns.gone and my beards burned away. I get ressurected, my alignment changed to lawful neutral and my powers are gone. My brard grows back in black. Anyways, cant seem to redeem myself, atonement wont work. I eventually get a vision from my god "moradin" it shows the heartforge and a single coal amongst the white hot fires black as night and a hand reaching in and grabbing it and being burned away." So my guess is iv got to do something self sacrificeish. So were exploring some elemental temple of fire and we stumble across a old red dragon. We fight it for a bit, realize theres no way to win, so we decide to run. The dragons chasing us and wittling down our health with single attacks and breath weapons. So I twll everyone to run and ill hold it off, they ask if im sure. I say get out of here ya big bastards, so I face this dragon alone. I leap at it, charging power attack, 20, 20, I need a 17 to hit its ac, 17. I cut the dragons head clean off, and drag it to my party. "Nobody burns a dwarf's beard" still didnt get my powers back.
