Silver Crusade

In a game I am running PCs are going up against a vampire. Said vampire is reduced to 0 hit points and turns to gaseous form.

Under the vampire stat block it says that while in gaseous form they have a speed: fly 20ft (which is better than the spell, sure but still).

I have been looking for the flight rules in PRD to help but can't find them. Can a creature with a fly speed run (i.e. x4 or x5 to move speed)? Even if that's posible, the PCs can out run the gaseous form, so they could just follow it to its coffin....so that seems kinda lame.

Another point this brought up, "Additional damage dealt to a vampire forced into gaseous form has no effect." It seems by that statement, the age old way to destroy vampire is out. I'm in sunlight, no problem, I'll just turn to gaseous form and now I am immune.

Someone help me out here, what am I missing?

"This ring continually provides its wearer with life-sustaining nourishment."

I am assuming this means food and water, however, my players think it means air as well.

If it DOES provide air would they need a Water Breathing spell?

Would they be immune to gas weapon, such as a Silver Dragon's paralytic gas breath weapon?

So my players have ticked off a powerful Lawful Good NPC (Not a paladin) in my game. The players are evil and have also made a few powerful evil enemies as well.

The NPC isn't Lawful Good Stupid, so is playing off the players against their enemies out of character? Deception and manipulation tactics are not exactly strong LG behavior, however no innocents are being harmed, justice is being dealt.

My hang up is the statement: Good implies altruism, respect for life, and a concern for the dignity of sentient beings.

On the other hand, it serves the overall greater good to use the two evils to destroy each other, protecting innocent lives.

Thoughts?

So would the Dhampir:
1) Be damaged by the Vicious weapon backlash if he is weilding it
2) Be healed?
3) Be uneffected?

Vicious: When a vicious weapon strikes an opponent, it creates a flash of disruptive energy that resonates between the opponent and the wielder. This energy deals an extra 2d6 points of damage to the opponent and 1d6 points of damage to the wielder. Only melee weapons can be vicious.

Dhampir
Negative Energy Affinity: Though a living creature, a dhampir reacts to positive and negative energy as if it were undead—positive energy harms it, while negative energy heals it.
Resist Level Drain (Ex): A dhampir takes no penalties from energy drain effects, though he can still be killed if he accrues more negative levels then he has Hit Dice. After 24 hours, any negative levels a dhampir takes are removed without the need for an additional saving throw.

So the other day I was surfing channels and I came across the old Escape from New York movie.

It got me thinking about Ravenloft, and demiplanes, and the Donjon card of the Deck of Many Things, and even the Holodeck episodes of Star Trek Next Generation.

In a fanatasy world, were powerful wizards and magics are the norm, and lawful good idealists balk at execution, what about a demi-plane prison to house all your BBEG if they are captured?

As far as the Deck of Many Things goes, my thoughts were this:
It is an artifact. Someone created it, perhaps they too created this demiplane, and the demi-plane is were you go when you draw the dungeon card. And in fact, you don't know it, because it seems like the real world. IDK, thoughts?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Alright everyone, I hope I don't regret this......

So I need help with ideas here. The player's have finished up Isle of Empty Eyes. They by past a lot of encounters, which is why they are only 9th level.

Player's:
Captain: CE Half-elf (half drow for flavor)blade bound magus 9th lvl, who worship's a demon lord and just completed ritual 2 from lords of chaos.

No 1st mate, the Magus was 1st mate but he killed the orginal captain and took over.

9th level NE Human Wizard (abjuration specialist) who worships the great old ones.

9th level CE Drow Bard

9th level LN Dhampire Rogue (knifemaster)

Here is why I need help. The players are headed into the feast at the end of Isle, and I forsee that the magus is going to kill all of the pirate lords, sacrificing them to his dark demon lord.

S&S, as written, is a mild attempt at an other than good-aligned characters AP. My player have turned into something that character's from Way of the Wicked would say: "Dude, that's evil."

I love were the story is going and the roleplay has been great, but we are way off the original track here. The magus just wants to watch the world burn, and make sure that his demon lord gets blood and souls.

I am considering the real possiblity that I will have to re-write 5 & 6 to acount for the very dark path they are going down.

What kinds of challenges will work well for an evil group? I was thinking paladins and good clerics, just not sure how to work them into the AP.

This is my first entery on a game I have been running for some time.

Bring you up to speed:

My player's began as:
Human Inquisitor
Human Monk
Half Elf (Half Drow)Bladebound Magus

Nothing really notable happen, I am sorry to say, in the first 2 APs. They stuck to the story, other than killing Mr. Plug and capturing Scourage at the end of Mutiny (the Inquisitor keeps him alive to tortured him).

By Tempest, we had one player (monk) drop out and 2 new players enter. Human Wizard (Abjuration) and Drow Elf Bard (thanks to advanced race guide).

The biggest change was that the LN Inquistor was the Captain, and the crew mutinied against her, lead by the Magus who then became the new Captain.

Player generates new character, Dhampire Rogue (Knifemaster).

Now comes the best part. The Magus worship's a Demon Lord and is on the path to become a demon himself. He has just completed the second (as of last night)ritual gaining demon senses.

So my player's have are going through Island of the Empty Eyes right now, however, I have a problem. The current captain is the only one with a voting seat on the council (having just bearly won the race). The problem is, everyone else in the party is sick of her and they are ready to mutiny. Now if they do, none of the remaining characters have a seat on the council.

How would the "new" captain go about becoming a voting member of the council to continue the story line in the Price of Infamy?

I have been reading some other threads, and I am stunned by people's ideas of what is and is not an "Evil Act". Let me make sure I am being clear: what I am talking about is an act that will cause your character to detect as, and therefore be smited as, evil.

I always thought this was cut and dry, black and white, but I am realizing different people see things differently. However, as a rule, what do you see as "evil acts"?

I use the the following as my guide:
Betrayal; murder; worshipping evil god/demons/devils; animating or creating undead; using an evil spell; consorting with demons/devils; using others for personal gain; bullying/cowing; gain pleasure from causing despair, pain and suffering; tempting good individuals to do evil acts; Cannabialism (which in a fanatasy world means eating of the flesh/drink blood of a intelligent creature).

Other patterns of behavior that lead to evil: lying, theft, and cheating.

Now, a lot of people are going to cry foul, saying these are things that all adventurers do. I am just curious to see what arguements are made.

(opens can of worms....let the chaos commence)
