"Well... the script is very difficult to translate," the dwarf finally says when he pulls his nose out of the writings. "I believe they are referring to a "Legion" of some sort. And! There is mention of an event of some significance that is set to occur on the next full moon." Thâdænn concludes with a worried look upon his face.

"Nilah! Tuva! You may find this interesting... and useful." Thâdænn calls out as he lifts up Phaen's spelllbook for all to see.

Checking over the unconscious necromancer, the dwarf gets a rather curious look upon his face, "Hmm... interesting bracers, he is wearing. There are many engraved runes upon them. Yes, yes, I do believe these are symbols of warding. A set of magical bracers to give the wearer a bit of protection, I would guess." He looks them over very closely, inspecting them with meticulous precision. "I could put these to good use... of course, you could as well, Tuva."

Turning his attention to the chest, he continues, "I found his key to his chest, but I'm loathe to use it. There looks to be a bit of evocation magic protecting it. These wizardly folk are a cautious group, I've heard. I suspect that he's cast a protective ward over it, and whoever is foolish enough to open it is in for a big surprise!"

If no one offers to disarm/open it (and I don't think any of us are trained in it much less able to disarm a magical trap)...

Moving everyone back away from the chest and outside of Phaen's shanty, Thâdænn casts a cantrip and the key floats through the air towards the chest. The mystical hand guides the key into the lock and turns it as far as it will go. Then, guiding the hand, Thâdænn uses his cantrip to lift the lid.

Thâdænn searches Phaen's body as well as the surrounding area while inquiring if anyone has shackles or rope to bind the necromancer's hands. While doing so, he'll strip a piece of cloth from Phaen's clothing and use it as a mouth gag, preventing the caster from invoking any spells.

@GM Harm - I think you forgot that Vghotan and B were prone and must make a move action to stand, giving any threatening characters an AOO (Griff on B). I'm not sure if Vghotan can make a 5' step in the grease. So, depending on your ruling, he might not be able to attack. Also, if he makes any move in the Grease, he must make a Acrobatics check of DC10. If he fails, then he needs to make another Reflex save of DC14 or fall prone again... It's a nasty spell. :)

Spellcraft to identify Phaen's spell: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Meh... success up to 1st level spells.

"Uvelucal!" Thâdænn shouts in draconic, his hand extending out to the farthest undead goblin. A green glob of acid fires through the air...

Acid Splash on Zombie C (ranged touch): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 for acid damage of : 1d3 ⇒ 3

Although he had conjured a sizable amount of acid, the dwarven sorcerer's aim fails him and the acid strikes the far wall. It briefly bubbles as it begins to corrode the aged, wood planks that make up the shanty, and then fades from existence.

Just realized that I didn't say where the grease hit on the map. So, to be clear, the 4 squares that should have Grease are Vhgotan's and B's and the two squares directly behind them from Thâdænn's perspective. So any allies can approach the prone zombies without fear of the grease affecting them.

"Oh! How I hate zombies!" exclaims the frantic dwarf as he turns his attention to the goblin undead. Thædânn shouts in draconic several arcane words and oil begins to bubble up through the floor.

Without missing a beat, Thâdænn steps up next to Khasos and follows up the shaman's allegation with one of his one. "You look quite nervous at the mention of the scroll... I'm beginning to doubt you are even a necromancer... Answer my friends question now!" Arcane energy begins to crackle on the dwarf's fingertips as he prepares to cast a spell should the imposter become hostile.

Thâdænn bows before Ulbrec as he receives his payment of gold. "Thank you for the trust you have placed in us, my Lord." He straightens up, and with a nod to Captain Swift, heads out with the others to Phaen's home.

"Lord Ulbrec, "Thâdænn says with much defference. "Fear not that any information will leave our company. We may not be part of your court, but our reputation and discretion is of utmost importance. We will not betray your confidence," he continues looking at the others and nodding as though looking for their acquiescence. His eyes fall upon Tyrek. Raising an eyebrow, he catches the oracle's gaze and then re-directs his eyes to the lord before them.

Thâdænn takes a long look at the scroll, then scratches his beard. "Hmm, I don't recognize the main script, but several of these markings are arcane runes... possibly from a teleportation type spell. Thâdænn aids his comrades in exiting Jorun's home and heads out slowly into the night to appear before the guards. "Thank you for the kindness, Jorun... until we meet again," the sorcerer says as he bows his head in deference.

Leading Nilah and Griff back into the streets, he raises a hand to show it empty to the guards as they approach. Then, smiling and nodding, he points to Khasos as he speaks to the Captain and then points back to himself. Speaking in a low, calm voice to the nearest guard, the dwarf continues, "We're with the well-spoken half-orc... it appears my two friends here have fallen into a bit of shock.. what, with the battle against those little goblin buggers and all. Jorun and I thought that a wee bit of nip would take the edge off their nerves... seems they don't share our dwarven constitution and taste for the finer spirits." Thâdænn pats Griff on the back and helps Nilah push back her hair, exposing her faint smile and glossy eyes. "See! They're feeling much better already."

Thâdænn throws back his glass of whiskey in a single gulp. A wry grin crosses his face and he nods in deep appreciation. Staring at the the glass, he chuckles to himself. "Reminds me of my uncle's home-distilled spirits!" Patting Griff on the back, he lets out a bellow as the brawler leaps to his feet and runs for the privy.

Dwarven (to Jorun):
"Quite tasty... its aged very well and I like the hint of anise on the finish! Oh, and yes... I'd much like another."

I find Roll20 to be a great tool, however, for most of the players on the PBP boards Google Slides seems to be the easiest place to share maps.

As a GM, I add the google slide link to my profile, so that it appears with every post I make. That makes it easy for the players to access the map. Make sure you "share" the slide with "anyone who has the link" and change the privileges to "Anyone can edit". That way, each of us can move our tokens, note AoE effects, show movement paths, etc.

Alternatively, I'm fine with theater of the mind. Nilah's suggestion is great or just an "orc" section you keep updated in your posts during a battle. With theater in the mind, I've found that it works best when the players describe what they want to do, an as GM you describe what is possible and the outcome... Like, if Thâdænn says he wants to cast Color Spray on as many as possible, given the layout of the battlefield as you see it, you post -> "Unable to get all of the goblins with his spell, a bright burst of radiant colors emerges from Thâdænn's hands and swarms two of the goblins..." then roll for saves. I'd also suggest having the GM make skill checks or other checks that need to be made during combat, rather than posting and then asking the players to roll. That will keep the tempo going and the next player won't have to wait for the check to be resolved before acting.

With theater of the mind you just have to throw some of the combat tactics we're use to in Pathfinder out the window. It's just not feasible in PBP to adequately describe the battle with such detail to allow the players to enact all the tactics. And questions/answers going back and forth tend to slow the pace to a crawl.

Just a couple thoughts... but I'm very flexible and will well with whatever you decide, GM.

Strange language... I must learn it as soon as possible if we're to run into these little vermin often! Hearing Khasos's plan, Thâdænn attempts to move quickly and silently with the half-orc. As he steps out to fire his bow, the dwarf closes the distance to the closest grouping of goblins and casts a spell.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's Everyone!

Tyrek, I sent GM Harm a PM on Sunday with the same concern. I didn't want to step on your toes and with you based on Fire, it made sense for me to revamp Thâdænn a bit.

With GM's permission, I've changed my bloodline to Arcane and reworked him based on illusions and utility spells. I think for party balance, he'll be much more helpful this way. Also, I've refocused my skills onto Sense Motive and Perception... and picked up Knowledge Local to cover an open knowledge skill. I'm guessing in a few levels, Tuva's skill may very well surpass mine, but I can help cover in the meantime.

With foam covering his beard, Thâdænn looks up from his overly large mug. "Trouble!" he says pushing out his chair and grabbing his quarterstaff. He begins to follow Khasos but stops sharply and grabs the exposed bone on the half-eaten mutton leg from his plate. "Wait for me!" he continues as he pushes his way through the crowd and out the door after the shaman.

Looking back over his shoulder, he tries to catch a glimpse of Nilah and Tuva. He knew the hot-headed Tyrek and the brawling Griff will surely follow Khasos. They had been bored for days and announced that fact loudly to anyone who would listen. However, the two ladies were not nearly as impetuous and he didn't want them left behind. They would undoubtedly be needed if trouble was indeed in their immediate future.

Originally, my bloodline was already Black Dragon for the acid. My intent was to be able to convert damage type spells to acid for the versatility of another damage type and for flavor as a dwarf. I don't really like the VMC as I don't want to give up that many feats just for the admixture ability. I could look to pick up a lesser elemental rod or possibly elemental meta magic feat. I have one slot that I could trade out for it.

However, since the +1 damage per die is only for the descriptor, I would need the admixture to change something like Fireball to Acid and get the +1 per damage die. With that in mind, I might be better as a gold dragon, as fire is much more common and I'm shooting for it with Magical Lineage. I can still get the elemental rod to change energy type for some versatility 3/day.

I think that is my best route...

So, I'm going Gold Dragon bloodline; straight Sorcerer.

As for maps, I'm good with theater of the mind. We'll just need some good descriptions to help determine if/when we can use some AoE spells.

As for his build, I originally thought of going dragon disciple with little focus on the martial side, possibly not even a level of a martial class... just sorcerer right into DD. But I do give up a bunch of spell casting levels or I end up using a lot of my feats to get full caster levels... So, I thought about staying Sorcerer all the way; either cross blooded to acid elemental bloodline or 1 level of wizard to get admixture. That way I could convert certain spells into acid based.

However, it its better for the group, I could go more martial orientated (1 sorcerer & 4 fighter/barbarian) and then go Dragon Disciple. That would be a very fun character too! We have a lot of magic already and less martial. I'm open to either progression path. I think both directions will make him a very interesting character to play.

Of course, all of that is contingent on the DM's approval to change things up.

Sounds good. Thâedænn is very outgoing and enjoys drinking and socializing. He's not much of a brawler, he's a bit lazy when it comes to physical exertion due to his pampered upbringing. He's much more of a talker, politician and would be intellectual. He would find anyone that is a bit rough around the edges to be absolutely fascinating. Give him a few drinks and I'm sure he can get pretty boisterous with a little deviant in him. He's used to getting his way and not getting in much trouble b/c of family connections and money.

Also, I'm a bit under the weather right now. So, I apologize if I don't post much for the next couple of days. I'll try to come up with a some other character connections over the next couple days.
