"It so happens we seek the same men, priest. Do you have any information as to where they have been in the last 24 hours and is there anything we can do to help? I would be happy to attend to the family's needs if such action is warranted. It would fall squarely within my duties as one of her Grace's followers."

"The daily activities of this monestary a indeed foreign to what I ma used t,even for this country. I am not sensing we are dealing with a typical temple,my friends. Looking about the outside of the temple's frontage, Hayashi tries to ascertain if anything else is out of the ordinary. Perception1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

"It seems like things take little time to get dangerous in this country. I amazed that the average man can make it through a day and his children through the night. They are truly inspirational..., Hayashi says as he glances over at Jaxus' leg. "Are you positive you are not in further need of assistance than bandages can provide, Mister Jaxus."

"It seems many things have happened recently to put your towns people of edge, Father. I have worked in this country many times placing the wandering dead to rest as is our lord's will. But, this time things feel different, more dangerous. May we move to your cell to discuss this away from prying ears who might take some of things we ask about out of context?"

Pausing by the door for a moment, Hayashi turns and replies to Iovanna,"I will happily go after night fall to retireve the items we are seeking, but I must warn you that night time in Ustalav is not the safest of times. "Things" tend to prowl the darkness of this country."

"Yes, Hrolf, the Way is very dangerous and the members keep frightenly close ties to the undead. There are many of their members who are undead themselves. It makes me both apprehensive and happy to know I will have the chance to break any hold they have over this region. I suggest we stay close and not stray too far one another." Thinking for moment, he adds,"I am a monk of their patron diety and will likely set some of the locals minds at ease. I have been to this country many times and while the people are suspicious and brash in their attitudes, they also appreciate those who help them. I am a hunter of the undead and this country keeps me very busy. I suggest Iovanna and Rosanna come with me to the temple and Jaxus and Hrolf stay here with the books and Kendra. How do you all feel about this?

"I will most certainly ask these questions and more. I would think it prudent if we seek out our information in pairs and for a pair to stay here with Kendra and the books. We have time to conduct these investigations and if the Way is involved we must be on our guard at all times. Trust no one.

Assuming my backstory in this land covers the Way as it should, Tetsuo does the following Hearing the Way being heavily involved is of no comfort to the monk. Knowing that if they are involved far fouler fiends will soon be a part of their lives than mere gargoyles. "Friends, I believe it wise we seek the aide of the local bishops. I will venture to the monestary as I am one of its members and see what inormation they may provide us."

Moving to Kendra's side, Hayashi places a light hand upon her shoulder and givesher a reassuring look and they watch the others open the chest. The hand upon Kendra's shoulder serves the purpose of both comfort and safety should he need to toss her from harm's path, but his cool grace only reveals the kind gesture.

Being a man of few words as it only clutters his mind distracting fromt the serenity of enlightenment,Hayashi takes in his new companions in thoughtful silence. After a time he ask, "Miss Kendra, is there anything any of us might do for you to ease the burdens you now carry?"

Taking a seat in the parlor, Tetsuo is hit by a flood of memories. "How many times have been in this very room pourng over these tomes with the professor., he thinks to himself as takes in his friend's home. Picking up one of his favorites covering the ecology of zombies, a faint smile crosses his face. Flipping through the tome is like stepping back in time and the numerous undead he was able to put to rest due to this very work run through his mind.

"Of course, Ms. Kendra. Please, lead the way., Tetsuo says gesturing with his for the young lady to move on. "I have spent much time in your country and have always found the people to caring, but guarded. Your's is not a land where welcoming everyone you meet into your home is wise or safe thing to do.", he adds looking to Jaxus for a moment after Kendra has passed him.

Bowing his slightly and saying,"Pharasma be praised." Tetsuo addresses the gathered grouping of friends of the professor. "It was three years ago when I came upon Professor Lorrimor. His caravan had come under attack from a group of zombies I had been tracking in the area. Thankfully I was able to bring them down quickly and assist their souls to Pharasma's hands. It was fate that brought me to the trail of these undead as they lead directly to the man whom I sought. From that day on the professor was a great friend and mentor, teaching me much about the habits of my undead prey." The monk again makes a hand gesture and speaks words in his own language before moving back again to his spot in the crowd.

Seeing that the others have handled the situation with no need for undue violence, Hayashi continues on with the rest into the Restlands. Glancing over his shoulder he notices Rosanna seems very timid, but before he can attend to her Iovanna continues to yell at the departing men. Turning his attention to her, he says"They have departed, Iovanna. It will be counter-productive to continue down this path and likely to result in unnecessary violence. These men are not as versed in the way of the world as we are and, while misguided, mean only to protect their families."

After watching the grouping of people around the gravesite, Tetsuo decides it is safe to appraoch given the diverse nature of the individuals and general amiable attitude they seem to be taking towardone another. Slipping quietly out of the wood line, a monk in his late twenties wearing white and black robes moves forwad to join in paying his respects. Stepping next to the professor's daughter he tilts his forward, one open hand to his chest, and speaks what sounds like a short prayer in a foreign tongue. Tilting the wide, low brimmed hat back on his head to expose his face. Around his next a set prayer beads each marked with alternating symbols of Irori and Pharasma hang designating him as a warrior of their faith. Making the same gesture toward the group, he again bows his head and greets them in an accented common,"Irori be praised. It seems I am not the onry one who has lecieved the news of our fliends death. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Tetsuo Hayashi, monk of the new dawn, follower of the god's Irori and Pharasma." Bowing again he turns to Kendraand says, "Miss Kendra it has been too long and you have grown much since I last laid eyes on you. I was saddened to hear of your father's passing." After conversing in a quiet voice with the professor's daughter for a moment he turns to Jaxus with a flat face and ask,"Sir, did you say your name was Jaxus? Our mutual friend has mentioned your name to me before I last love this land. I should think you and I may benefit from some conversation later today." |
