Temenoa stands defiant, glaring at the proprietor. ”It was your imprecation to give it more than a soft touch that led to the door’s demise. If it worked properly, as it might had you spent coin earlier seeing to it’s maintenance, you wouldn’t be raking me for more.”

Temenoa puts her shoulder to the door and manages to force it open.
With a last glance at the unfamiliar surrounding, Temenoa nods, and follows Ulrich in.
Temenoa's face dons a customary frown. "Well, he may have led us past various cutthroats and ne'erdowells, but now we are well and truly lost and deeper into the maze of this labyrinth." Temenoa grimaces further at the building. " The place looks....unprepossessing, but it may be... as he says. And if his desire is to earn more coin, then perhaps it is....safe." The elfmaid huffs. "What think you all? Either it is safe, or my one "schilling" was an insult and this... is a trap."
Temenoa frowns and pushes Tark’s hand back. ”One silver only good Tark. If this purchase bears fruit, more might be forthcoming.”
Temenoa looks askance at the man, but her mind turns the offer over. ”I see you are to be taken at face value. Not to be trusted, nor relied upon. But still perhaps… useful. However I see no particular reason to part with silver each, when we can rely on each other.” Temenoa produces one silver piece. ”A compact of short duration. You recommend a safe and well-suited inn. If it transpires that such is suitable, then on the morrow, I may have further need of your…intelligence.”
Temenoa peers at Van Eyke from under her hood. "Why under every star would we entertain a compact with you? We are as we are, and look for little but our own safety."
Hood still drawn over her head, Temenoa sees no good reason to remove it, given the poster. "Aye, let us move farther into the city - less wooden teeth, more suitable lodgings..." Temenoa whispers to Ulrich.
Temenoa glances back, following Ulrich’s eyes. Then she nods, pulls her hood tight over her head and follows.
Temenoa blinks once. Solidly. Before turning on her heel and walking quickly away. I guess the loss of a canoe is better than being caught for entry tax evasion...and the rest... she thinks to herself. "We may live to regret that - the functionary will wake up and realise that no matter what caused him to sleep, his purse is still light the 4 Crowns he believes he is owed, and that a pair of humans and their dwarf and elf companion are at large..." she whispers generally to her new companions. Once they have moved off the docks, Temenoa asks the group: "Whither are ye each bound? I seek a library, or a place of learning that might hold books or treatises of knowledge of Chaos - I must research..."
Temenoa likewise puts hand to haft, keeping hold of her spear she looks around to see what other bodies are keeping an eye on the situation...
Temenoa’s eyes boggle slightly and her ears stand a little straighter. ”Oh. Certainly. Yes. I have come to Nuln to research. Mostly. Creatures bestranged wander my forests, unheard nor seen before.” she says, waving her hands dramatically and doing her best to seem…elfin.
”This barge.” answers Temenoa, not quite understanding, and somewhat annoyed at the strange question. ”I also have a canoe, which I will need to store. Can you provide me with such or one who might provide?”
Temenoa stares stolidly at the multi-eyed, belching behemoth rising up to swallow her. ”And this is, apparently, not the work of Chaos.” she mutters, apparently thinking so hard she has given her thoughts voice. She smiles a greasy, post vomitus smile. ”Well and well. Land-ho! And to think it is this that will apparently ease my stomach. Would that I had never left the forest…My inestimable thanks Josef. I wish I had been a better passenger.” Temenoa also thanks the married couple/crew, says goodbye to their child and prepares to untie her canoe…
Temenoa finishes her latest evacuation, and sits by the side of the barge, listening with a wan countenance. She scrunches up her nose and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. "Books. Soldiers. What a place. I know which ones I'll be hoping to avoid." The elf stares at passing trees, her tongue making a circuit of her teeth as she mulls...something. "Well, Ulrich - I see you are headed to Nuln to learn, find a teacher. Meister Tark, Lady Keterlyn -what brings you to this fair metropolis?"
Temenoa nods and smiles in recognition of Keterlyn's folkways. She is temporarily buoyed, and listens intently as Josef and Wolmar detail what they have heard. "I wonder if any in Nuln are aware of what is happening on the outskirts of their proud Empire. Unless the canker is already so abundant it can be found everywhere." The sudden urge to return to her beloved forest of trees and beasts forces a brief skip of Temenoa's heart, but she masters herself and breathes deeply, closing her eyes to the world. Then rushes to the side of the barge and projects her peppermint tea. "Gah..."
Hair matted and face wan, Temenoa nods and smiles, again weakly, despite her distress. "Thank you again for your rescue of my canoe, and for making our journey pleasant." The elf pauses, considering the barge-captain, apparently weighing up something in her mind. She shrugs, and speaks. "Josef - I have seen an increasing number of Chaos-marked beasts and creatures in my travels - have you seen the like in these waters? Heard anything, beyond the usual rumors?"
And so it transpires: Temenoa is shamed that simple peppermint could ease her pain (Of course!) and surprised that the human Keterlyn could overcome her own rustic prejudices to provide succour. In the long run, looking back later, Temenoa could see that her frailty was a blessing in disguise - it brought out the best in her companions, and allowed her to see the doorway, long closed, to the path of trust. ”Thank you all. Yes, much better Master Tark - Ulrich and Keterlyn prove the best of their kind. It is passing strange - when in my own canoe I feel it not, but this barge leaves me feeling so ill.” The elf maid manages a weak smile. ”When we are on land I will mend, I am sure of it…”
Temenoa’s cabin mates can tell she isn’t….comfortable. Either cooped up in the cabin, nor out on deck. “A little green around the gills” doesn’t come close, and the rate at which she merely stores food in her belly before returning it projectile-like into the river astounds even the least-worldly of you. The captain’s warming liquor had not any desirable effect, and now she sits, glum and despondent under the tarpaulin - grateful for fresh air, and ruing the day she decided a barge might be a quicker mode of transport. ”Faster it may be, but I’ll be much happier when my toes touch earth once again. For all her mal-de-mer, Temenoa is polite and respectful. She tries her best to be kind to the crew’s infant, and helps out where she can…which to be honest isn’t often. When in the cabin, of a night, Temenoa mostly keeps to herself, watching the two humans Keterlyn and Ulrich and the dwarf Tark at first, then, once she had established they were merely, like her, fellow travellers and not seemingly tainted by the growing Chaos.
All good BD, no rush and make it as good as it needs to be...
Riverboat is fine with me. Also….Gunnes! Pretty sure there is a good writeup on the pros and cons of firearms in the main rulebook…
@BD - oops, totally forgot about the Ranger starting gear…
Sorry, I think I might have confused you. Or me. Can we buy extra gear beyond what we start with? Temenoa has 8 Gold Crowns, but no weapon apart from starting gear of which weapons are merely "bow and ammunition". Say I want to start with a sword, or spear or dagger, more armor etc....Can we buy stuff to start with, or do you want us as we were created - starting gear plus Crowns? Also, what does "nad ammunition" actually mean in terms of numbers of arrows?
One last thing - can we have spent our Crowns to outfit ourselves (beyond starting Trappings) as we would like for adventuring, or do you want us to do that in Nuln? * Also forgot to (minimum 1) = 1.
* Distinguishing marks/hair color etc: Not feeling distinguished at all! Going to stick to the avatar I selected for appearance... * Reasons for visiting Nuln? I imagine Temenoa has come to Nuln in the hopes she might be able to find a sage with information relevant to the warped creatures she has been trapping (or, if that fails, is prepared to conduct the research herself). * Point of Origin - happy for you to randomise BD! [EDIT] There is a a big forest in Middenland between Grossefurre, Middenstag Castle and Middenheim - would that be a good place to be from??
