I do this not by changing any of the numbers, but my making tactical or untactical choices. Sometimes Power Attack is often a great idea, but maybe not against someone who has never played and didn't know to avoid the flank. Against the experienced players, following the tactics of 'uses its spell-like abilities', I'll probably use the harsh ones to their maximum effect. Against some new players using level 7 pregens, I might work my way up to them.
This doesn't surprise me. Nor do I ever intend to play at a table you run.

Am I to understand that you would refuse to play at a table where difficulty was adjusted to the player's level? Please do feel free to demonstrate your protest by removing your person.

Just use it to buy a 8 lb. gold brick worth 400 gp then use that to purchase the Chirurgeon's bag. ;)

Haha. If only I wouldn't have to sell it back for half price.

I guess I'll play it safe and pick up a masterwork light crossbow. I could just buy the bag anyway. (Though it's a lot more fun to get things for free.)

It seems to me that the boon was worded that way to prevent people from going out and getting something like a free 3rd level scroll. My husband, on the other hand, seems convinced that if detect magic would register magic, then it would not be allowed.

Shadow Lodge

Hello! I never got around to using my boon from Midnight Mauler and I'm trying to decide on what to get. The boon allows for a free purchase of one nonmagical item up to 400 gp.

Averted Mauling::
By saving the half-elf Markov Rutowski in Ardis, you gain a political favor you can trade while in Ustalev. Within the Immortal Principality, you may trade this political favor for any nonmagical item worth up to 400 gp, including but not limited to masterwork weapons and armor, courtier clothing, and jewelry.

My question is, can I use this boon to purchase a

Chirurgeon's Bag:
This sturdy leather case straps to the waist or thigh, or can be slung over a shoulder. It consists of a leather pouch, a healer's kit, a bottle of strong brandy, a potion of cure light wounds, a vial of smelling salts, and 2 doses each of alchemist's kindness, antiplague, antitoxin, bloodblock, and soothe syrup.
I mean, it only has a little bit of magic.

Awesome, thanks! And thank you for answering so quickly. :)

Hello everyone. I played 'Year of the Shadow Lodge' recently-ish and I was wondering if it is possible to use the magic boon as a spontaneous caster. (My sorcerer is feeling a little butthurt.)

The magic boon states: As a standard action, you may recall a spell that you have already prepared and then cast that day. The spell is then prepared again, just as if it had not been cast. You may only use this ability once. On using this ability, check the box and line through this boon.

I know it's meant for prepared casters, but I would like to use it as an extra spell slot once. Is there any particular reason why it was worded this way?

Ask yourself this and answer honestly: Are you really trying to bring her into the game so she can have fun or are you trying to show off your skills and knowledge? If you overwhelm her, I promise that she will not be impressed.

How is chalk used in combat?

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I've found some great uses for chalk in combat! (Okay, so it was actually just after combat.)

In a recent game, my tiefling witch was interrogating a reluctant captive. He refused to answer the question, so my witch shoved a piece of chalk in his mouth and made him chew it up.

Sadly, the good-aligned bard gave him a waterskin and undid my efforts.

The witch also played catch with a piece of chalk and her toad familiar, used chalk to clean out her ears, and got a crowd to copy her chalk-related actions.

I've got no issue whatsoever with a scroll being used in a wrist sheath. The only "issue" I have with this entire thread is the blatant, bald-fased assertion that unrolling a scroll is part of reading the scroll.

I find absolutely ZERO support for that position in the RAW.

Now, if someone wants to house rule that unrolling a scroll is a free action, that's fine. If PFS wants to rule that way, that's fine too. If the developers want to errata that to be a free action, that's perfect.

I just get a little tired of reading people ASSERTING their own generous interpretation of a rule that is unclear as being the rule. It's not the rule. The rule isn't clear.

I also have no problem in non-PFS games with having a clever tinker come up with a device that delivers an unrolled scroll to the bearer as a swift action. I can think of some ways that might work myself. But it would have to be constructed and/or purchased.

By the way, when you are trying to use an item for a purpose other than it's stated purpose, that is by definition an exploit. That's what the word means. The wrist-sheath is designed to deliver weapons or wands. Using it to deliver a scroll is an exploit. It's not even a dirty word. It's just what it is.

It looks to me like a wrist sheath is meant to provide easy access to certain items. Using it to access a scroll may not have been what the developers originally pictured, but that doesn't mean that it's an exploit.

Makes sense to me. :)

Thanks for your help. I'm giving Edgar lil leather booties and a leather onesie. (Tiny, raven-shaped, awesome leather armour.)

Shadow Lodge

Hello all. My halfling sorcerer has just reached level 3 and I have a raven familiar that I would like to use to deliver touch spells. I'm worried about it though since it's a tiny creature and it would provoke an attack of opportunity each time. Can I give the raven some sort of armour? (Excluding mage armour.) Thanks. :)
