Taril's family had managed to escape the clutches of the Hutts several generations ago, creating a successful trading enterprise. The advent of the Empire however began to cut into profits and many avenues of trade began to evaporate. By necessity, the family had to turn to smuggling to survive, coming into conflict with criminal enterprised , especially the Hutts.
Losses , both monetary and in personnel , began to mount. Taril's parents and siblings had arranged passage to the outer rim, where they'd arranged to take over stewardship of a farming enclave. Taril was to rendevous with her family's transport at a fuel transfer station.
Dropping out of hyperspace, by habit , hidden behind a small platnetoid, Taril was in time to witness the destruction of the transfer station and all transports currently being serviced by a fleet of three Imperial Star Destroyers. She watched, tears streaming down her face, as her family was pounded into dust.
A patrol of TIE Fighters discovered her hiding place, and a desperate chase ensued. In the moments before being able to jump to hyperspace, one of the TIE Fighters scored a direct hit on Taril's vessel.
Dropping out of hyperspace, Taril was able to limp her ship to Sel Zonn Station. Unable to afford either repairs or docking fees, she abandoned the ship in the hangar she landed in.
Sitting, sipping the cheapest drink available, she despaired at her misfortune, wishing a way to strike back at the Empire would present itself.
