Talindra takes in the scene with awe. "Look at THAT! An ancient carving of Silvanus! Notice how the face looks ancient and wise? The modern depictions are usually much younger." While the others look for danger, she spends some time studying the idol and stone slab out of historical interest. Probably doesn't matter, but rolling anyway.

Investigation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16. Talindra sees the same levers as Za'afiel, and not much more. "I don't really know, but seeing the gloves and the levers makes me think they might go together? Like each of us puts on the glove and then pulls the levers at the same time?" It's pretty obvious that Talindra is operating on pure speculation here, but she decides she's going to put on a glove to see what happens. ![]()

Talindra impatiently heads to one of the boxes and opens it. "There's a skeleton here. And a black velvet glove." Talindra dangles it for all to see. The backhand of each glove, near the knuckles, is decorated with a pair of demonic eyes, and the opening where you insert your hand is decorated with a fanged maw. "Wonder what this is all about," she says, studying the glove. [b]"Not sure I want to put my hand in it. She checks the other remaining boxes and grabs the identical gloves anyway. ![]()

As the party explores, Talindra uses her Cartographer's Tools to help with the mapping, though she sees that Sumak is really on top of things in that front. As they approach the sound of moaning, Talindra nods in agreement, joining in but keeping her voice down. "Yes, I'm with Kurt on this. There's probably unexplored passageways on the other side!" ![]()

We can do a standard operating procedure for inspecting doors. So when some posts "we walk through X door," then maybe everyone automatically gets an investigation and perception check to see if they notice anything. If something is detected, we don't walk through the door and we deal with whatever info we get. If nothing is detected, we walk on through. ![]()

I will suggest that Sumak wears the ring, because pretty much anyone can use it, he's one of our many fronliners, and he happened to deliver the killing blow. Not saying that's the precedent for how future loot is divided (killing blows are a terribly unfair way to divide loot), but it's convenient for this moment. ![]()

"Not tougher than you are with that polearm!" responds Talindra. "Disturbing, though. I didn't think the stories were true . . . that the dead here do not rest." She studies the scarab and ring carefully without touching them, apparently afraid that she might likewise be cursed.

"Oh no you don't!" shouts Talindra in surprise. She channels her magics as she claps her hands to let out a mighty thunderwave!
If the undead creature is pushed back, Talindra moves to engage it in order to protect Mark! ![]()

"I think they're all rather interesting," says Talindra. "Did you see all the period details on the amphorae? And they're perfectly intact!" She joins in the inspection process.
"The main entrance to the Barrowmaze is nearest. The secret entrance I mentioned is a bit farther, but it sounds more interesting to me." ![]()

"It's still intact! This is fantastic!" Putting away her miner's pick, Talindra enters as well and begins to admire the construction, attempting to come up with some brilliant insights about what she was seeing.
Also, Archaeologist gives Talindra this ability: -Historical Knowledge: When you enter a ruin or dungeon, you can correctly ascertain its original purpose and determine its builders, whether those were dwarves, elves, humans, yuan-ti, or some other known race. In addition, you can determine the monetary value of art objects more than a century old. ![]()

Oops, reading comprehension fail. After a bit of study, Talindra hops back out of the open crypt. ”Okay, I’m ready to help. Let’s have a little more respect for the dead when we break open one of ours.” She pulls out a miner’s pick and a shovel. The shovel she hands to Mark when he asks how to help. ![]()

Talindra admires the ring in the light. "A taste of what's to come!" she says, delighted. "Right, you're welcome to give another barrow a go. I'm gonna study this one a bit more while you're at it." In particular, Talindra sees if she can find a body or coffin in the barrow. She was curious to know who, or what, was buried in these mounds. ![]()

The fun part is when a drow suddenly shows up after having stalked the rest of the party all the way here! Talindra spends the journey talking about how excited she is as they trudge through the horrendously fetid swamp. Her energy reaches a peak as they finally arrive at the main entrance. "Look at this--isn't it fantastic? A field of ancient burial mounds! Not all of them go to the Barrowmaze, mind you--in fact, most are probably separate. Small burial chamber added adjacent to the main complex. Could be worth looking at one or two to get oriented, though. Come on, I think we all ought to go have a look at the open one." Adjusting her hat, Talindra peers inside from the entrance. ![]()

Talindra smiles brightly as the group appears drawn into the prospect of adventure. ”So actually that skull on the map is a secret entrance into the Barrowmaze. I admit I don’t know exactly why that skull is there, but maybe that’s the trick to opening the passage? The main entrance is here.” She points to a prominent mound. ”I like secret entrances myself, but both are probably worth exploring. ” ”Anyway, I kind of think it’s up to you all when we begin. You’ve got the swords and all. But not tonight—I need to get a hot bath and a bed to sleep on!” At this point, Talindra beckons the fellow half-elf woman who’s serving folks and kindly asks for a stiff drink and some stew. ![]()

"A stinky hole, sir? No! The Barrowmaze is one of the largest burial complexes in existence! No one has ever been able to catalog its true extent, or discover its historic secrets!" Deciding that this was the most promising lead she'd have, Talindra takes out her map and unfurls it. "Alright, this is the basic layout of the area. Just the surface, mind you. And there are tons of barrows and burial mounds in the Barrowmoor. But in the middle of it all is the Barrowmaze, a vast, interconnected dungeon extending deep beneath the marsh. I know from reliable sources that these halls are remnants of an ancient and powerful civilization." Deception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10. (Talindra knows no such thing, even if she wants it to be true.) "So, if you're a student of history like me, there's no greater adventure than to explore these halls. And if you're looking for a payday, then I promise there will be valuable treasures in these catacombs!" The map Talindra has unfurled does appear to depict the region. There is one spot marked by the image of a skull, enclosed by a clockwise arrow. ![]()

"Me? No, I haven't gone yet, but I've explored plenty of ruins, lost cities, tombs, you name it. And I have this." Talindra flashes a scroll case. "There's a map of the area in here that I've been studying for a while now, and I can tell you about it. Or . . . I could mind my own business. Depends if you're looking for help. So, are you interested? All I want is my cut." ![]()

"Finally--Helix!" announces Talindra to nobody in particular. "Never thought I'd be so happy to see a dump like this." She stumbles her way through the doors of the Brazen Strumpet, taking off her traveling cloak and hat to reveal a tall and slender half-elf, fit if not particularly muscular. Perfect she thinks to herself, seeing a cluster of well-armed warriors siting at the table. "Mind if I join you folks?" she asks, sitting down before hearing their answer. "Are you folks heading to the Barrrowmaze? If so, I'm sure you could use a guide," she says, smiling. "The name's Talindra." ![]()

Nobody mentioned that Gameplay is up! For background purposes:
Will post tomorrow. @Mike--As an archeologist, Talindra begins with what's described as "A wooden case containing a map to a ruin or dungeon"--should that be a map to the Barrowmoor, or do you want it to be some other random place? ![]()
I messed around with other ideas but didn't feel drawn to them. If the GM's okay with it, I'd stick with my archer druid. While there's overlap with Elduin, there are also a number of differences. Also, Talindra's going to try and pretend she's not a druid for a while, but I'm guessing Elduin's going to know better. ![]()

Stealth (assuming dim light): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30. Talindra eagerly awaited her quarry. It didn't seem like Tanic was hiding very well, but then again a single talkative cave druid would probably not seem so threatening. Confusing and verbose, perhaps, but that was in Tanic's nature. ![]()

"Um, Tanic, who are you talking to? I'm sensing some sort of magic that's over all of these people. It feels like they might've been cursed . . . or blessed in some weird, twisted way, but really the fact that I'm not really sure makes it feel a lot more like a curse. Maybe you should just stop dancing and we can just get outta here!" Knowledge (religion) to know more?, Guidance: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12 ![]()

"Okay, so this is all very fascinating to Tanic I'm sure, but we're searching for derro here. Might be time for us to move along." Talindra unsurprisingly seems impatient with this side story. Y'all can explore, just acting in character. -Posted with Wayfinder |
