You do have the scroll and there was an expectation that it be unopened by anyone except the intended recipient. It has an impressive looking wax seal that has a minor magic woven in it that is supposed to change color if tampered with. Of course you may well be able to bypass this seal or forge a new one etc... Let me know what you want to do.

"We have to go there to rescue a friend's brother anyway... I think I told you about her in one of my reports, and asked you to look out for a way to get him out, remember? We promised, so might as well go and try to get the other items while we're there."

Talia replied with quiet intensity, "I haven't forgotten. In truth our influence in this matter is limited but we do have an agent who can help. His name is Durrent the master of hounds. Show him this in private and he'll do what he can."

She presses into Azarra's hands a small piece of jewellery, a silver broach pin the size of your thumb engraved with a stylised moon and four stars surrounding a harp.

"And if he wants all of that, why send US to do his stupid dirty work?"

"I have been observing the council for a long time. Cardona's a pragmatist and uses whatever tools at hand to get a job done and if two purposes can be served at once then so much the better." replied Talia.

Azarra wrote:
"The other councillors aren't even fighting him."

Talia sighed, "Their hands are tied by centuries of tradition. Tradition that Cardona wields against them like a master fencer. I think they're tired, they've been fighting a rearguard action against's Cardonas stream of legislation for years now and its ground them down. Eberhard in particular looks unsteady, I fear he's not long for this world and who knows how the council will change with his passing."

Azarra wrote:
"At least let me know how it worked out so I can take back a report to one of the trustworthy ones when it is destroyed."

Talia nodded, "But of course! May the gods be with you Azarra and your deeds be sung and the journey be as long or as short as you desire!"

With that she withdrew to attend her own errands.

Elsewhere Azarra paid Talia a visit, she was feeling much stronger now but was still rather stiff and although she didn't admit it was suffering from nightmares. Talia hugged Azarra and told her, "It seems I owe you my life, again!"

She listened to Azarra's plan with sadness, "Oh Azarra! Your parents hoped to have dinner... Don't worry they'll understand, although they left that life long ago they have a few stories of their own they never told you... As for the Orb dealing with this will be tricky and based on what you've told me I don't think we should involve the council. A good friend of mine Danillo is due in town the day after tomorrow, he knows the Sage of Shadowdale and can be trusted to take it there in secret. If anyone in Toril knows how to destroy this, it will be him."

As Azarra moves to leave, Talia gently grabs her arm and whispers urgently, "Are you really planning to deliver this diplomatic message of Cardona's?! Talk about walking into the Lion's den."

Azarra:
Before you leave, Talia tells you urgently, "I need to train you in field craft, this will take time but your first lesson is the dead drop. The building opposite the town hall has an ally which curls round behind it. The ally wall is covered in a mural of a dragon rampant. You've probably seen it. The brick where the eye is, is loose. If you need to leave me a message, place it there, I will find it. Make sure no one sees you." The two of you then slink away from the near riot that's kicking off in the Goblin. You hear the whistles of the watch converging on the inn as you disappear into the night.

Azarra:
She listen and nods, "Everyone had to start somewhere. Main thing is to not get noticed and to have a damn good cover story if and when you are. I don't know if they're related and I'd advise looking too deeply into the Zhent's affairs for now." Glancing at the posturing groups by the bar she gives you an apologetic look, "By the way I'm not trying to get rid of you but that lot are going to start throwing chairs and worse soon."

Azarra:
For a frustrating quarter bell you discretely look everywhere, into the booths, by the bar and so on. Trying you hope to keep a low profile. Out of desperation you check the booths for a third time when to your surprise you notice a cowled figure lounging in the shadows. She beckons to you, but when you start to speak she puts her finger to her lips and waits for you to sit down. She fiddles with her ring and suddenly you feel a pulse radiate out. You looked around the tap room in wonder, it was as if all sound had simply stopped despite dozens of rowdy sailors singing for all their worth. The cowled figure smiles and tells you in elvish, "A privacy ward, just in case." She looks at you appraisingly before saying, "Two nights ago in the wee hours of the morning a horse and carriage arrived from Zhentil Keep. Apparently it was expected and it was ushered in through the Podol Plaza blockade. It was magically warded and I have been unable to find out who was inside. One thing I do note however is there have been no ships or wagon trains from Cormanthor in at least a week. Not particularly unusual in and of itself but I think that may prove to be interesting for you." She then glances at two groups of sailors apparently arguing at the bar over what appears to be spilled ale, "That might kick off, probably shouldn't stay too long."
