I apologize. This game is just not working for me. I've tried to push through it but I'm just not connecting. I'm sorry. This seems to be a good point to bow out or you can use her as a NPC.
"I think that is a bad idea. But it must be done." she says with an air of fatalism. "If we can delay the entity's arrival, then perhaps our deaths will not be in vain."

"I do not know the languages of the outsiders"
::Quite important. I do believe we have a portal with some strange guardian. He seems to have his weapon braced against a charge.::
how many days travel was it?
Drat, I forgot to level up. Memo to myself - level up when you get to your home computer.

She nods, reciting from the old tales, "Deep in the world, but not of our world came the cities of the Great Old Ones. They seep through from the places that are not places. Built of angles and lines that measure not the same twice, one must abandon reason to navigate them. They are eternally populated, yet always abandoned, for their denizens live between the seconds of our time. Their presence strains the weave of this world, and reality bends to recoil from their presence. Trust not your senses, but be constantly vigilant."
have I heard of anything like this?
Kn:dungeoneering: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Woo hoo 5,000 gp... In a place with no psionic items available and magic doesn't work. Hmm... Do the banks offer good interest rates? :)
::Brilliant observation.:: she says with a mental eye roll.
::"Oh, I never underestimate the insane.":: she says immediately.
::"Some of the dwarves use engines to deal with the lack of magic in their clanholds, but the ones I know rarely see the sky."::
::"Controlling sound would be an option. Some psions can do that. Not my style.":: she responds.
She has long learned that looking up in the sky is foolish, for it induces pain. How these people stand it is beyond her.
"My powers don't lend themselves to flashy displays. I simply make peoples's bodies work better or work worse. I don't think I'll be of much use in the peacock parade."
"I am known as "Taker-of-Life". I am a healer, though not in same ways as the gods. I have an idea on what might have caused this. Our race has been keeping something from beyond the planes away. These things are more alien than any outsider. If one is waking, then It could cause such ripples."
She snorts at the advisor's actions and addresses the Lord directly. "Why does a powerful lord like yourself allow advisers that are acting this stupidly? I'm a damn ornery b*##! and even I know not to start out by threatening people you need help from. You have more than enough problems without letting those fools anger us. We want to find out how this happened as much as you do. If you follow their paranoid fears and subdue us, you will end up with casualties and no more information than you started with. What's more, you anger our lodge, which is the greatest collection of magic still available on this world."
"By aiding us, then when we find out how magic failed, your agents will know this before other nations. You will have great advantage over your neighbors."
Well, it will either get things going or get us killed.
I may be intermittent for a bit. My hard drive died and I'll have to be redoing a lot of stuff.
I'm good to go on whenever you are ready to go.
She will get on.
Is the barge able to hold all of our mounts?
reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 Whew!
As Taker comes through, she tries to keep small and in the shadows of the others as they move. Violent people coming their way start feeling tired of their exertion, perhaps a little nauseous for a moment. Of course she takes the effort to conceal the effects of her manifesting so that it is not obvious what she's doing.
Using fatigue and sicken body liberally to impair the rioters near her. Both are 30' range with a fort or will save of 16 to negate the effect. Concentration DC 15 to suppress the power's displays.

::"Does anybody have anything impressive that will rout the crowd?":: she thinks with a deadpan voice. She is not looking forward to wading through the throng of surface-dwellers.
::"I agree. Let us follow.":: She'll move after the guard.
As she hides at the side of the street she thinks. ::"You merely need to think and you can communicate with any of use on the mental network"::
Aldon, your power isn't needed so long as we stay in medium range
Her anger seems mollified by their sacrifice. She will turn to the others, "It seems like the best way to accomplish our mission."
"You attack us unbidden and then beg to be saved?!" She seethes at them for their arrogance. "Allow me to replace what you have taken from us and then we can talk. Do you agree?"
If he agrees, then she will point to those who attacked and use steal health to restore the party to full hp.
"Hah! Willing to assault random travellers, but a show of power and they back off. What shikal!"
I think something odd happened. You rolled a crit confirmation against Aldo with lousy rolls but not against me.
also, how far are they away from us?
initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Taker will try to appear inconspicuous. She's dealt with the irrational prejudice of those foolish enough to live on the skin of the world. She will observe for now.

"Ah, well, it seems that the civilizations on the surface are broken by the slightest difficulty." She looks at the others through her smoked glasses, "Do we enter, or avoid?"
"Whatever. Let's get moving." and she will spur her lizard forward to the city.
Despite the veil and parasol, she hisses in pain at the bright light. "I've heard it makes more sens to rest during the day and travel at night." she says hopefully.
Okay, here's what I'm purchasing.
Her voice goes cold as she tells of deep truths. "There are beings from the spaces between and beyond the planes. While the gods are powerful, we can comprehend them. They have wants and needs like ours writ large. These entities have minds completely unlike ours. Their power dwarfs the gods' and their ability to destroy immense. We cannot defeat them, at most we can hope to contain them, placate them. My kind has kept one asleep for millennia. We must find what is causing this and find what will keep it from destroying us."
As they step out, she looks over the others. "So we should all know what each other can do. I move life force around to heal people, so I'm keeping you alive. And yes, I can steal the life away from people trying to kill us and use it so we don't get killed. If you have a problem with that, keep it to yourself or deal with your own wounds." She looks around to see if anybody is concerned with that.
"I'll also need to touch your minds a bit to do this. That way I can help you out from fifty yards. Stray farther and you're on your own. We can use mindspeech through the link, but I'm not going to crawl through your brains. Like I'd even want to."
"So, what do you do?"
"I've already told you that it's the elder things rising." she says with frustration that such a wise one has no vision. "But if you are insistent upon this runaround, I vote Osirion. With how long they lasted, they must have dealt with a rising at some point."
I also want to make sure that anybody who has player issues with my character speaks up. Taker is stubborn and cantankerous. I want to keep it as a quirky roleplaying thing, but if I go too far let me know and I'll scale it back.
She is short and broad, like the rest of her kind, but nimbler than most. Despite her short legs she isn't slow. Perhaps her inner fear is what drives her legs in quick forceful strides. During the bright days she wears a veil to protect her eyes, but it comes off when the sun comes down.
The duergar comes without her pack, but in armor. Then again, she is rarely seen without it. No weapons are obvious, though she walks with an aggressive stance that says she doesn't need tools to deal with people.
Since she had arrived, she had been talking about shifts in the nature of the world. Occasionally this led to rants that the worm at the center of the world was causing this in order to rise and destroy everything.
Since the death of magic, there's been a certain smugness about her. She's been challenging the masters' tales and arguing that they needed to take action. As she comes in, she's muttering under her breath, "It's about time they started taking this seriously."
They do try and blend in for the most part. Given that a percentage of standard humans are not kind to people who are different.
Okay, I've redone my character into a duergar. I have the background and questions done. Stats are finished in hero lab version, but not in GM's version.
Hey, I hope that you feel better soon, and I'm glad that your hospital didn't succumb to the "OMG, if phones and wifi can take down a plane, we can't allow it." that many US hospitals do.
I'm about 80% done with my character.
