Appearance
--------------------
Suryo’s has the telltale wiry form of a wayang. Many would wonder where his strength resides. His skin is a paler shade of grey with a subtle tinge of purple the same as his hair. This eyes are bright and golden. Thick shadows flit and dance almost like a second layer of skin upon his body, sheltering him from the sun's glare.
What is more unusual about it, as far as wayangs go, is that his face is softer-featured and not sharp. There are patterns of mandala fragments below his eyes and upon his cheeks. These are painted on, and not tattoos. There are more of these that peek out of his cloak, along the back of his hands.
Those more attentive notice that occasionally, his shadow seems to move independently of his body.
--------------------
Behavior and Personality
--------------------
Suryo’s carries his wiry frame with intention and some importance. He is rarely ever frivolous with his actions. He rarely displays humor and affection for friends can be found in his trust of them, or in his incorporation of their skills into shared purposes. He would, however, mourn the the event of their loss (though in private).
Generally, others find him calm or sometimes melancholy.
He is motivated to achieve divine punishment and elimination of “problems” as deemed by Achaekek.
Conscientious
Pessimistic
Controlled
Cautious
Reserved
--------------------
Faith
--------------------
Suryo appreciates the skepticism that Achaekek imposes on the other gods. Perhaps the “normalized core” isn’t entirely in control of the universe, nor successfully managing the governing dynamics. This is an aspect of his wayang skepticism, aimed at other faiths he sees as weak in practice, or “too comfortable”. Generally though, the core tenets of divine retribution and sacredness of assassination resonate with him. They are tools to set things right, and when Achaekek directs him he can be sure that the goal is in the right.
Separately, he wants to believe that Achaekek finds comfort in the shadow. Suryo won’t speak of it, but he (like many other of his kin) believe that they come from, and will return to the shadows. Perhaps those shadows are shared with He Who Walks in Blood.
In fact, he suspects Achaekek holds purpose for all of his kin, and the obvious connection has been broken somehow. Who else among the wayang carry some measure of Achaekek’s tactics and purpose within their own shadows.

Edicts
--------------------
* reject the Desecration of darkness
* conduct assassinations
* spread the Red Mantis’s infamy
* wield sawtooth sabers in combat
--------------------
Anathema
--------------------

Roleplaying
--------------------
During Combat Encounters...
You move about stealthily so you can catch foes unawares. You’re a precision instrument, more useful against a tough boss or distant spellcaster than against rank-and-file soldiers.
During assassination attempts...
You were never there. You leave no trace, and certainly no witnesses. The fewer witnesses, the fewer bodies. The ideal number is one: the target.
During Social Encounters...
Others will find Suryo very accepting of different ancestries and backgrounds. He understands that not all others will return this consideration, and in fact many fear or don’t understand wayang. He does often conceal it to navigate social situations smoothly.
That said, his skills give him multiple tools to influence your opposition. Clocking marks and ferreting out information are second nature to him. Most importantly he endeavors to leave behind no suspicion about his intentions, or evidence that he was anywhere near a now-deceased target.
While Exploring...
You sneak to get the drop on foes and scout for danger or traps. You’re a great asset, since you can disable traps, solve puzzles, and anticipate dangers. When exploring cities and settlements, you
In Downtime...
You might pick pockets or trade in illegal goods. You can also become part of a thieves’ guild, or even found one of your own.
You Might...
* Hone your skills through intense practice, both on your own and out in the world.
* Know where to attain illicit goods.
* Skirt or break the law because you think it’s meaningless or have your own code.
* Seek out Tian Xia's dark places, such as mountainous caves, shaded mangroves, or rainforest canopies.
* Be curious about this sunlit world, so different from your home's occluded vistas, and seek out new experiences to inspire your artistic expressions and meditative introspection.
* Dream and work toward a time when your people can overthrow your invasive masters.
Others Probably...
* Find you weird (wayang!)
* Find you charming or fascinating, even if they think they know better than to trust you.
* Come to you when they need someone who is willing to take risks or use questionable methods.
* Suspect you’re motivated primarily by greed.
* Consider you creative and seek to commission you as an artisan or appraiser.
* Fail to understand your people's motives and distant struggles.
* Whisper frightful rumors about your origins and attribute curses to your presence.

Background
--------------------
Suryo was ejected from the Netherworld, and his native diaspora by those he angered and disturbed when one of his earlier assassinations happened to be a fellow wayang. He’d grown up watching many depart from the Netherworld for different reasons - those fleeing lingering effects from the Desecration - so he did not cling to it as the only shadows that could be dwelled in. Banished to Golarion Prime, he sought out dark places, initially in and around Tian Xia. Eventually he learned of another type of darkness at a place called Mediogalti Island. In fact the difficulty with which he had learned about it enticed him. When he arrived, he was invigorated and inspired to discover the worship of the Mantis he’d seen in his dreams many years before his exit from the Netherworld.
--------------------
Otherworldly Mission
--------------------
When Suryo still resided in the Netherworld, there were times he would become certain of others’ necessary punishment. Perhaps it was a fetchling who’d conned local faithful, or a d’ziriak who’d descended upon some temple to enslave a small community in remote wastes that they thought wouldn’t be missed.
He would always have a dream of a hooded mantis appearing and nodding in the direction of some figure that Suryo would come to know about as very real in the waking world. At first he didn’t participate in the execution of punishment, the individual would always be struck down. Eventually he tracked down the assassins and relayed his dreams. Kirana, another wayang, became his mentor and started his training. Kirana shared Suryo’s periodic dreams, and was not formally trained in the faith of Achaekek. In fact, part of him was fearful of what this “dark entity” in his dreams was. Suryo embraced it.
There are only two dreams that ever reoccur for Suryo. One, is of a mysterious figure whose features are hazy, but whose importance is somehow instinctively paramount. The other showed the Mantis itself bringing down a god of iron and war. Surely, the Mantis would not ask this of him...

Favored by the Blood Mistress
--------------------
Impressive Student Perhaps Blood Mistress Jakalyn was impressed by Suryo’s long journey to arrive with the Red Mantis Assassins. Perhaps she saw wisdom in utilizing talent from an unusual ancestry and origin. The reasons are hers alone and held in shadows (it makes Suryo smile), but it caused her to personally train him. She was delighted to discover that he already held some level of proficiency in marking and eliminating targets, and that her selection was well founded. She recently privately presented him with a gift - a rune that conveys a keener edge to his blade.
