Favored Class: Vigilante, +2 hp
Dual Minded: The mixed ancestry of The Pale Butcher makes her resistant to mental attacks. This gives her a +2 bonus on all Will saving throws.
Elf Blood: The Pale Butcher counts as both an elf and a human for assorted effects.
Elven Immunities: The Pale Butcher is immune to magic sleep effects and gets a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against enchantment spells and effects.
Mismatched: Rather than having bodily and facial features that are a blend of elven and human, or tending towards one parent or the other, The Pale Butcher has a strange combination of features. She has noticeable mismatched eyes and ears, as well as uneven limbs. This gives her a –2 penalty on Reflex saves but a +4 racial bonus on initiative checks.
Multitalented: The Pale Butcher has two favored classes.
Dual Identity: The Pale Butcher hides her true identity, allowing her to move about social circles and nobility without carrying the stigma of her ruthless actions. Knowledge checks about one identity do not reveal information about the other, unless The Pale Butcher's true identity is revealed to the world at large.
The Pale Butcher starts each day in her social identity. To begin willingly changing to her vigilante identity, she must succeed at a Will save (DC = 10 + half her vigilante level); if she fails, she becomes shaken for 1 minute and cannot try again during that time. While in her social identity, when The Pale Butcher is exposed to mortal peril (such as when combat starts), she must succeed at a Will save at the same DC or be compelled to enter her vigilante identity as soon as she can get out of sight to do so. The masked maiden cannot choose to fail this Will save. In addition, if the masked maiden hasn’t entered her vigilante identity for a week or longer, she must attempt this Will save at the start of each day; on a failure, she is compelled to change into her vigilante identity immediately (or as soon as she can slip out of sight to do so).
A masked maiden can don Gray Maiden plate in 1 minute without aid, and can do so as part of switching to her vigilante identity. If the maiden reduces the time it takes to change identities (such as with the quick change social talent), she can still don her armor as part of changing to her vigilante identity. If she changes to her vigilante identity unwillingly, she can’t choose to switch from her vigilante identity back to her social identity that day. While in her vigilante identity, The Pale Butcher takes a –2 penalty on all Charisma-based ability and skill checks (except for Intimidate) and can’t benefit from morale bonuses or bardic performances.
Despite being a single person, The Pale Butcher dual nature allows her to have two alignments, one for each of her identities. When in an identity, she is treated as having that identity’s alignment for all spells, magic items, and abilities that rely on alignment. For the purpose of meeting a qualification for a feat, class, or any ability, she is only eligible if both of her alignments meet the requirements. If The Pale Butcher is the target of an effect that would change her alignment, it changes both of her alignments to the new alignment.
Any attempts to scry or otherwise locate The Pale Butcher work only if she is currently in the identity the creature is attempting to locate (or if the creature knows that the two identities are the same individual). Otherwise, the spell or effect has no effect, revealing nothing but darkness, as if the target were invalid or did not exist.
Scars of the Past: The Pale Butcher has a set of Gray Maiden plate at no cost. This armor is battered, and other creatures are never considered proficient with it. This armor can be sold only as scrap for 4d6 gp, but for the masked maiden the armor functions normally. The masked maiden can spend 150 gp and 1 day of work to improve her battered armor to masterwork quality (although it is still considered battered).
Conflicted Identity: The Pale Butcher's mind is in a constant state of turmoil, which makes her even more ethically and morally fluid than other vigilantes. When targeted by a harmful spell or effect that would affect her in her current identity but not her other identity (or when she would suffer a lesser effect in her other identity), she has a 50% chance of being affected as though she were in her other identity. This chance is rolled when the spell or effect is cast or triggered and before any spell resistance roll, if applicable.
Shield of Blades: The Pale Butcher’s wild attacks allow her to block her foes’ counterattacks. She gains Power Attack as a bonus feat. When she takes an attack or full attack action, if she uses Power Attack on every attack, she gains a shield bonus to her AC until her next turn equal to her penalty on attack rolls from Power Attack.
