Sumukhi's Background Story (still in progress):

Minimum of 5 sentences per paragraph to earn story background rewards.

Excited that her parents finally agreed she could play the game, Sookie rushed to her room so she could install the game. She hit play on her movie viewing screen, the premiere of Disney's "Gargoyles" starting to play. "It's going to be like I am a real-life gargoyle!" Barely able to contain her excitement that her parents are finally going to let her play the game they helped design, she starts to download the game onto her high-end gaming computer."I wonder which of the gargoyles to shape my avatar to look like?" she says aloud.

Her tendency to speak what she is thinking is one of the more evident quirks she has from being on the spectrum. She ponders the question as she watches the series premiere of Disny's Gargoyles. Halfway through watching the second episode of Gargoyles, her gaming laptop notification sound goes off, indicating the game has finished downloading. She clicks on "<Create a character>", followed by "<Choose your avatar's race.>" "Mom and Dad said I could play a gargoyle but told me they want me to read the full list of avatar race options before I make an avatar."

"I am going to make my avatar a gargoyle. They know that, but I have to do as Mom and Dad say or they might change their minds about letting me play the game." Her mind is still thinking about what her gargoyle avatar is going to look like. "Going to make my avatar purple like Goliath!" Their daughter's enthusiasm can be heard by her parents, who are downstairs preparing dinner. Her mother calls up, "DInner will be ready in fifteen minutes, sweetie."

Free trait (Highlander) earned.

As Sookie starts to scroll down the list of available avatar races, she continues to answer aloud her question. "Goliath's color, maybe Elisa's gargoyle look when she was turned into a gargoyle?" Excited, to the point she is probably going to have to have a tinkle break before dinner time. <"The options for your avatar's race are listed in alphabetical order for your convenience."> The first avatar race option that causes her to briefly pause her scrolling, <"Angel">.

She continues to scroll through the options, <"Barghest">. 'Barghest'? What is that?" She selects 'barghest', "That's ugly. No thank you!" She continues to scroll through the list, knowing nothing is going to make her change her mind about making her avatar a gargoyle. She has practically been begging her parents for the past year to get her the game so she could make a gargoyle avatar so can feel like she's gliding like her 'best friends', Disney's gargoyles.

<"Basilisk">, she pauses her scrolling to watch a favorite scene of the second episode of Gargoyles. She continues to scroll through the long list of avatar race options, <"Centaur">. "Dad says centaurs avatars can serve as mounts for 'humanoid' avatars." She continues to scroll down the list, when something she never expected would happen. <"Chimera (choose two or three races to create your avatar's race.">She clicks on <"Chimera">.

Free feat (Narrowed Gaze) earned. The Narrowed Gaze feat covers the safety feature of her wish, "I wish for my gaze to have the power to petrify living creatures only when I want it to do so, so I never accidentally petrify anyone, including myself."

Sookie reads the more detailed description of the chimera avatar race out loud. "Choose two or three creatures from Greek myths to render the starting point for what your chimera avatar could look like. For example you could play a cyclops/dragon/manticore chimera." "Are gargoyles allowed?" With determination, she searches the list and she shouts out, "Thank you for making me read the list!" "Sookie, dinner's ready!" her mother calls up from downstairs.

Not wanting to risk her parents taking the game from her by her proving their point that she gets too wrapped up in her screens. "Like I don't know they met each other creating the game before they had me." She starts to wonder which other avatar races she is going to combine with gargoyle to make her Chimera avatar race. "Okay, I am going to tinkle and wash my hands first." As she is washes her hand and looks at her reflection, "Angel isn't on the list, which would have been nice to have feathered wings like some of the gargoyles in the show have."

As she sits at the dining room table she asks her parents, "What Greek mythical creatures have feathered wings?" Her father, an affection smile appearing on his face, "I thought you were determined to play a gargoyle, Key." Sookie, knowing her father is trying to test her, "My avatar is going to be a gargoyle, but I am going to make it a chimera gargoyle so I can make a gargoyle that has feathered wings like Stagheart!" "What about an angel?" her father suggests. "Angels are not one of the options. That was the first race I looked for to see if I could combine it with a gargoyle avatar."

Free +2 adjustment to Charisma earned.

Her mother smiles as her father makes more useful suggestions, "Griffons, harpies and pegasi all have feathered wings and all are covered in some Greek mythology." Sookie, her mouth have full of half-chewed food, "Pegasus, not pegasi." Her father chuckles, "Pegasus is singular, pegasi are plural, Key." Her mother gently reminds her daughter, "You chew and swallow all the food in your mouth before speaking, sweetie." A look of worry comes onto Sookie's face, she finishes chewing and swallows, then, with trepidation in her voice, asks, "I can still play the game?"

"Yes, you may, sweetie." her mother tells her, "just remember that it is both impolite to speak with food in your mouth and dangerous, as you could choke on food you have not chewed yet." Sookie's father, waits for his wife to finish, "You can do a quest near the beginning of the game that, if you are playing as a Good character, can reward you with a pegasus as a mount." Sookie looks at her dad as if he just said something silly, "I am going to be a gargoyle, I will already be able to fly, Dad." Her father smiles at her again, "True, but not nearly as fast as a pegasus can fly. You might gain quests that having a mount that can fly as fast as a pegasus could make the difference between failing or completing the quest."

Sookie smiles back at her father, "Thanks for the tip, Dad. Did you have a pegasus mount when you used to play the game?" Her mother answers her question, "He not only had a pegasus mount, your father was one of the coders who designed the flying mounts in the game." Sookie's green eyes flicker from looking at her father, to her mother and back to her father, "You did? That's so cool! That's like being one of the animators on Gargoyles!" Her father chuckles, "I was the 'fastest draw' on the team."

Free pegasus mount earned.

Sookie laughs at her father's deliberate Dad joke, and asks her mother, "What kind of mount did your avatar have?" Her mother smiles, fond memories coming back, "I had an unicorn mount. As your favorite show is Gargoyles, mine was Xena, Warrior Princess." Sookie asks, "You never told me your favorite before. Do you have the series on disc?" Her mother continues to smile, "I do. You are old enough to watch them now. Would you like to? Sookie, happy to find out a new 'secret' about her mother, "Can we watch the first episode together after I finish making my avatar?"

"That sounds lovely dear. Maybe your father will watch with us. You can stay up past your bedtime tonight to watch an extra episode or two of Xena with me if you want." Sookie's face lights up, "You'll let me stay up past bedtime if I do? You must love that show as much as I love Gargoyles!" Her father lets out a laugh, "Yes, she does. Your mother was one of the coders who worked on some of the weapons that can be used in the game."

Sookie knew her parents were part of the team that created the game, but did not know the details she was learning during this dinner. "What other tips do you have for me?" Her father answers, "We will have plenty of tips for you as you play the game. When you are creating your avatar, choose a profession that can benefit you. I started as a stableboy, which gave me skills that helped me earn my pegasus mount." Her mother adds some advice as well, "I started out as a weaponsmith then branched out and became an armorsmith. By crafting my own weapons and armor, I had more powerful weapons and armor than I would have been able to buy with gold."

Free item creation feat (Craft Magic Arms and Armor) earned.

Racial Ability Score Adjustments: +4 Str, +6 Dex, +6 Con, -4 Int, +2 Wis, +4 Cha

Bonus Feat: Weapon FinesseLanguages: Common (both), Terran (gargoyle)

Question: Since weapon finesse is no longer a feat with no tax feats, can the bonus feat, weapon finesse, from the half-medusa template be used to select a single one-handed weapon (or the quarterstaff) that becomes a finesse weapon for the user? This is from the improved weapon finesse class feature of the dai'dore class for the 3.5 OGL Wheel of Time rpg (gaining weapon finesse as a bonus feat and being able to select one of those weapons). If no, her weapon will be a light mace instead of a morningstar.
