Strak pries his spear out of the table, leaving a rather large divot of stressed wood, which he casually presses back down with his thumb. "My arm, weapons and my speed will be necessary. These ruins may contain answers to my own questions, so I will come. Besides, if this place is fierce, then you need me. I do not think that this soft-looking group would last long without me."

Strak stands at the bar. Then looks dubiously at his mug of drink for a moment, tastes it, stares at it again. Arent's hand wave attracts his attention. He then rather openly stares at the small group gathering at the table. Nevil, in particular, seems to garner an appraising stare.
Strak jogs through the streets until he finds the sign of the Shepherd. He stops and thinks, "This must be the place the guard had spoken of ...". Strak quickly appraises the building, unslings his long spear so it won't hit the door frame, pulls the door handle, strides in and stops after two steps with his mouth hanging open. The other patrons see light from the door and a dark-skinned half-orc enter the room. Strak is tall and solidly built with black braided hair. His eyes are sharp and wary. But he gawking at the interior of the tavern. What is this? An Orc with a flash of blue eyes? His clothing consists of worn leather hides with a tougher outer leather armor. He seems to have a tattoo on his left arm. "Howdy, traveler ..." comes a small voice. Strak pries his eyes away from the depths of the room looks down and says to the halfling, "Such comfort! Such warmth! Do you have any food?" Strak does not notice the nervous titters from the bars other patrons as he lays down his pack and weapons on the floor nearby.

Here is an old discussion on the matter. No definitive statement from TPTB, but it does seem to be gone. I also searched the Beta pdf and could not find a reference to any double penalty for swimming.

Sweet! Spoiler: I selected Chaotic Neutral (CN) for Strak because it seems to be the best alignment for a Barbarian. Just so you know, I am not planning to play CN = crazy man.
In my opinion, Strak is a loner. His upbringing has been tough and poor. He is not vindictive, but he is wary and has learned that he can only rely on himself. He has an ingrained sense of tradition since he was part of Barbarian tribe, but on the other hand, anyone who has ever been friend or family has either rejected him or been killed. So he tends to reject outside influences. It is definitely not my goal to be random or difficult with the rest of the party, rather Strak has a lot of natural fighting ability, a natural independent streak and a tendency to think with his weapon rather than consult his allies. So this brings me to my questions: a) am I overthinking this? ;) b) have I selected the correct alignment in your opinion?

Thankfully, Barbarians only need to be able to move fast and kill things that don't move that fast. Keeps skill selections straightforward.
Strak the Swift, half-orc Barbarian Strak is tall, lean, and solidly built. He has long, black, braided hair to the shoulders, dark grey skin, unusual blue eyes and an intricate tribal tattoo on his left arm. Strak wears simple leather outfit with boots and reinforced hide jacket that serves as armor. He has a long-spear slung across his back along with a quiver and 3 javelins. He has also has a crude punching dagger hanging from his belt. He has few other possessions apart from wilderness survival gear stowed in his pack. Strak the Swift Character Stats:

Let me know how that looks, Wyrm! Strak the Swift - character story:
Strak is tall, lean, and solidly built. He has long, black, braided hair to the shoulders, dark grey skin, unusual blue eyes and an intricate tribal tattoo on his left arm and back. The tattoo is incomplete and appears to want to continue onto his right arm, which is bare.
Edited the story per your comments and embellished a bit more. Should be some interesting plot hooks in there as well. As usual, I will edit to your preference, Wyrm.

The way Brindenford is set up on the website is as an important base of operations for the PCs. There might even be some elements of the Delve that are important to the town...and vice versa. ;) The point is that some things won't work as well if the party is a bunch of outlaws in trouble with the town authorities. Good relations are best. No problem, I will edit accordingly. :)
Proposed character story for Strak the Barbarian for Wyrm's review. Definitely open for suggestions. Spoiler: I made this up just so I would have something handy. I have another idea brewing that I might toss out, but I didn't want to hold things up. Strak was raised as an orphan by a tribe of Barbarians in the wilds north of Brindenford. He was treated harshly by the tribe and virtually enslaved due to his orcish heritage. However at the age of 10, he killed the son of one of the tribesmen who was bullying him. This act gained the respect of the tribe and the family adopted him as a "son". While better than his previous lot, he was still more an indentured servant than part of the family. But that condition was infinitely preferable to wandering the wilds on his own. As the years past, Strak's strength and warrior manifested and he was grudging accepted as part of the tribe. However, at age 18, the younger son of his adopted family, who still resented Strak for killing his brother, lied about Strak's behavior during a coming of age ceremony. His orcish heritage did not help him and the tribe choose to believe the younger son version of events. Strak was exiled from the tribe and has spent the last half year wandering, alternatively living off the land and occasionally selling his services as a scout to a local noble who recognized Strak's warrior skills. Unfortunately, Strak's last mission for the noble did not go well. The noble's camp was attacked, while Strak was reporting. Strak was knocked unconscious, and awoke in the prison of Brindenford. I was thinking that perhaps the party could be given a lead that causes them to spring me from jail. Need to consider what to do about possessions. I am willing to start with nada but clothing. That might be fun.

I vote for starting in Brindenford. I expect to have my Barbarian drafted for your review later this evening. I assume that we post the details in our profile? Are we using the Character traits?
